The fact that many backup RBs perform at the same level or even better than their starters proves you shouldn’t pay a runningback

Here's a tip for the linebacks out there. Work on your pass catching ability. I bet if Marshall Falk was still in the league, he get extended big The greatest show on earth would not have been that. If you didn't have a thousand yards receiving And a 1000 running.

Big RB contracts have destroyed teams. Arian Foster, Matt Forte, Adrian Peterson, Ezekiel Elliot, Todd Gurley I could go on and on.

If it’s easy to replace you, you won’t be compensated at the top level.

If a RB Avg 4.4 or better after 4 years they automatically fit into a bracket where they get 3 years 42 mil

The return of the running back market will coincide with the decline of QB play. A lot of QB’s now are half RB anyway. I don’t think it’s a coincidence that during the golden era of QB’s (Manning, Brady, Brees, Rodgers etc.) the value of RB’s went down. A lot of today’s QB’s probably wouldn’t have made it as QB’s 30 years ago and woulda been changed into RB’s or WR’s. The younger generation is growing up knowing there’s no future for RB’s so the development of the position in youth football is likely affected. That’s why these days you often see the best athlete on the field is the QB and they’re making it to the NFL as QB’s now

It started with the broncos , being able to replace running backs with ease, then backs started declining once they got second contract. I honestly can not name a team that has a running back that lead them to superbowl. A good RB is easy to get but a great RB is hard to come by.

This is a great point. I’m a Redskins fan and I love Clinton Portis. CP had some fun years with us and whenever he was healthy we were a fun to watch playoff team. After Portis left Denver it seems the shine started to wear off a little on the Shanahan system. I think there was Olandis Gary and Mike Anderson that had nice seasons but they weren’t as good as Portis and CP showed that an elite RB is still a difference maker for his team.

I’m so sick of this narrative. The players choose the worst position to play and we’re supposed to feel bad that they get super short careers? You choose running back knowing you probably be done by 30 or even earlier. They could had played defensive positions longer, maybe put on weight and be tightends but no they choose to be running backs. Also people act like Derek Henry is the norm. Majority of running backs aren’t doing what he does. Barkey and him are rare. The league doesn’t rely on the position anymore and it’s easy to understand why. It’s a short term position and teams rather invest in the quarterback which if picked right there’s your next decade or two of winning. Running backs are not what they once were.

well, there's a lot to unpack in your comment. for starters, a lot of players don't have the physical tools to transition from RB to other positions. the average TE in the league is about 6 inches taller than the average RB and we're also talking about a 50 lb weight difference. there's also a lot more competition at other positions and in the NFL unless you are an elite prospect the chances of being drafted are already very slim. only 1.6% of college players get drafted and only 30% of drafted players ever actually make an NFL roster. i don't really think anyone acts like derrick henry is the norm; the dudes a unicorn. RB has indeed fallen off but there has recently been a resurgence with CMC carrying the 49ers, gibbs/montogomery carrying the lions, the season before last we had zeke/pollard combo carry the cowboys. further, every team has to invest in the qb position but let's be fair - unless your name is tom brady or patrick mahomes you're probably not winning a lombardi.

Agree. It is simply how the market works for every other job in the world. Why must we act like RB position is unique? Your value to a company is how easily you can be replaced.
