The Rise and Fall of a Biblical Super Soldier | Episode 14
Ойын-сауық
The Legend of Samson is one that we all hear in Sunday school. It's probably one of the best known stories from the Bible, and especially the Old Testament. However, the version you learned as a child probably didn't go into all of the details, like what a Nazarite is, or how Samson's rage devastated the Philistines. The Bible is about to get Weird...

I've been looking forward to this for so long Just to say, regarding David and Goliath: A sling has a damage output of somewhere around a .32 caliber handgun. Which means, in Biblical canon, God gave David the power to say, "Parry this you filthy casual." In real life.
@cmcapps1963

Yes! The whole "David killed Goliath with a pebble from a sling shot" thing always annoys me. Yes, David is an underdog and God is using him, but he's not defenseless or even particularly out weaponed. He's just the one who stepped up.

I find that hard to believe. A sling as powerful as a bullet?
@cmcapps1963

@@corning1 A very weak bullet, to be fair. I've shot 20 oz soda bottles filled with water with .32s and they don't always go through both sides. A sling is no where near a 357 for instance, but more powerful than rubber stretched between a forked branch.
@AngelMGordon

@@cmcapps1963 the old shepherd sling shot was not made with rubber and a Y shape branch. It was a patch of leather that held a rock and 2 strands of sinew or twine. [ I want to point out that even a pitched baseball can cause serious damage or death]. David had the skill level of a professional military sniper. Daily practice while watching herd, being ready to protect flock from predators. His arm strength and accuracy made him a long range deadly threat. Goliath was a hand to hand combat fighter. He did not have a chance in winning in a long distance attack.
The FDA does not consider honey to be in the same grouping as raw meat However interestingly enough, you can submerge raw meat in honey for weeks to months at a time and it'll keep it fresh enough to rinse off the honey and cook without getting sick

@@chrisjohnson406 it was and probably still is a trend to dry age steaks in things like honey for KZread videos. Basically the concept is that as long as there's an impermeable layer surrounding the meat to keep bacteria and oxygen from getting to it, decay slows dramatically, like 99%

Honey itself is ridiculously non-perishable too, so anything submerged in it is basically immune from decay for generations. It will last longer than the person who put it in there, their children, their children's children and so on.

Corn is a generic term referring to any sort of cereal crops, the use of which well predates the discovery of the Americas. The crop which is commonly called corn today is properly known as maize.
That part about the foxes is the hardest I’ve laughed in a while, glad to have you guys back
Watched every episode of this podcast multiple times, learn something new each view. Finally catching this live for the first time!
We have literally never been so back
Missed this show!!!
I heard that Sampson might have look like a regular dude and not look super strong and that’s why no one knew how he had so much power, because if he looked super strong and stuff it wouldn’t have been a mystery.
This did make not just my day but week. I mean it when I say it brings me legitimately to tears God using flawed people and giving redemption. I’m so glad you guys do this podcast.

I'm glad you guys are back. Personally it is funny how Samson's life is pretty much focused onto the Delilah arc when there is so much more to his story
This legitimately made my week.
Nearly died laughing during your reading of the foxes and torches scene. Great episode.
Oh. My. Fox!! I haven't laughed that hard in a loooong time!! Thank you, guys, I needed that!!! I ended up with a coughing fit, getting over a cold, but couldn't help it!! "The one guy who could end it all is up there watching, in stitches..." Bwahahaha!!! 🤣🤣

I've tried reading the Bible multiple times but the language is hard for me to get past, this way I get to enjoy the Story 😃 Thank you for this channel!
I have 3 things to say- number 1- OMG I'm so happy y'all are back. I literally recommend this show to everyone in my apologetics and Hebrew classes. I'm so excited to be able to have new content and learn more about the stories I have grown up hearing. (and just dive deeper into my bible w/o being bored out of my mind/ severely confused) number 2- Yall dropped not only a Wendigoon vid but also a Weird bible and I got to listen to the Lore Lodge Podcast from sunday Im so happy!! number 3- This is the like 6th freaking time I've heard about Samson in 2 weeks and I feel like God is trying to send a message but idk what the message is lol

I think that, if there is to be a message, it's to not end up like samson. You can have everything given to you, but due to your own choices, you can throw it all away in an instant. Take this to heart.
Biblically Accurate Foxes
I just checked, 300 foxes carrying torches on their tails is not addressed in ANY of my company's SOPs
Please keep doing this I’m an agnostic atheist but I love biblical stories. Can’t believe I just found this, been watching wendigoon for years lol.

Another chronological aspect of the Judges account to keep in mind: there is apparently some overlap between some judges, as they are regional figures. So some of the spans of the stories may overlap, confusing the full calculation of exact years.
So so excited

On the Seven Deadly Sins - Maybe one could think of the going to kill people after the riddle as one of the iconic Biblical examples of what the sin of Wrath looks like. Like the Catholics who defined the Seven Deadly Sins looked at Samson as a prime story of Wrath.

Ok so Honey is its own thing, but it comes from the enzymatic activity of bee digestion on nectar, so it was inside an animal, & honey is absolutely FULL of bacteria & stuff. Honey is only shelf stable because it has such a high sugar content. That's why you water it down & it ferments into mead. On the other hand, you take something like cherries & you heat them with sugar until they glace, adding sugar & removing water to make them shelf stable. Both of these are methods of preservation. It is said that babies can't eat honey because two babies ate pasteurized honey, but the pasteurization can't kill clostridium botulinum spores, so they remained dormant until the babies ate the honey, then the honey was watered down in their stomachs & the babies didn't have enough acid to kill to botulism so the botulism woke up & killed them. That's why so many cultures use honey as medicine. It even produces hydrogen peroxide most of the time, which is a mild bleach. Honey garlic is legitimately medicinal! Not from an "ooh vegan magic witch" perspective, from the fact that there are chemical compounds in there that our bodies use or that inhibit the growth of unsafe bacteria. Honey is actually not necessarily better than sugar. Sugar is sucrose, honey is glucose & fructose. Honey is just sugar with a little bit of other stuff in it. The other stuff is almost negligible when discussing the health of honey compared to sugar. (I know I just went on saying that honey is medicine, & now I'm saying it is the same as sugar, but just go with it. It's more complex than this.) Edit: An egg is scientifically a fruit because it is the living thing's attempt at procreation, although I think it might be more similar to a seed than a fruit. This is only in the same way that mushrooms are fruits because they are the fruiting body of the fungus, which is more similar to an animal than a plant on a cellular level. In a culinary perspective, an egg is a vegetable because we classify things like this: if it goes with chocolate it's a fruit, if it goes with garlic, it's a vegetable. (All fruits are vegetables actually; if they are in the plant kingdom at least.) This is a stupid line of conversation though. I should stop.
