    I hear that. the lack of engine noise is a downer. but I bet if you rode a really powerful electric bike you'd figure out a compromise. electric motors have instant torque and it's intense. I rode alot of 2 stroke bikes and ATVs when I was young and I've found electric engines deliver something similar to that 2 stroke feeling.

    2 Stroke nostalgia. love it. My second bike ever was a Suzuki RG250 half fairing after learning the basics on a clapped out CB250. I'll never forget the first time I hit the power band & did an unintentional wheelie almost the entire length of my street while trying to hang on for dear life. Good times! We were lucky enough in Australia to get all of the 2 stroke smorgasbord that Japan had to offer, but with a 250cc cap & power to weight limits, the RG250 was the fastest bike you could ride on your learner & provisional license, so there were plenty of us out there testing our limits on these beasts. There's a few RGV's ^ NSR's listed for sale now, but nothing beats the kickstart only fun of the RG250 & I'd love to add one to my current collection if I ever come across one again.

    I had the RG250 MK3 with full fairing and power valves in Kevin Schwantz Pepsi colors. That bike was quicker into corners than any other bike I've owned, only did 110mph flat out though. I always wanted the faster, more reliable and better looking TZR250 but by the time I could afford one I was looking at 600's and bought an FZR. Still the RG was an awesome machine at the time but after the second time the engine blew it had to go.

    I had RD350 and my roommate had the Canadian RZ350 LC back in the day. My bike was more of a beast than his but, his was so smooth compared to mine. Mine was basically a track bike with lights and was stripped down to nothing so it wheelied the 1st three gears w/out trying all the time, lol. His bike did have a little more top end. About 20 years ago the neighbor of my boss had a Kenny Roberts replica and he refused to sell it. I currently have the 76 RD400 in my profile pic and will never sell it as well.

    Coming from a Motocross perspective…. Even in motocross 4 strokes dominate, some of that may be due to the AMA’s displacement rule for pro racing (250 2stroke races with 450 4 strokes) but even in other racing organizations where the 250 class is just 250cc’s, 2 or 4 stroke, most riders ride a 4 stroke because with the increase in 4 stroke technology the power gap isn’t as much as it used to be, while the broad usable power that a 4 stroke makes is much easier to put to the ground allowing a marginally slower bike still be faster around the track. Nothing sounds better than a fast rider ringing the neck of a 125 2 stroke around the track though. 2 strokes still dominate in other off-road racing such as hard enduro

  • @Toxic2T

    @Toxic2T

    Жыл бұрын

    Yup, 4 stroke 450s would never have a chance against same displacement 2 strokes.

  • @mitchelljordan447

    @mitchelljordan447

    Жыл бұрын

    @@Toxic2T I disagree. 450 4 strokes destroy 500 2 strokes in every way other than a drag race. When you have turns and rough terrain, the broad useable power of a 4 stroke allows for faster lap times against 500 2 strokes that might have a bit more peak power. I assume the same would be true if they made 450 2 strokes.

    2-strokes can instill fear, trauma, paralysis or even death if not handled properly. I remember looping my Yamaha DT125 (yes, that's my first bike when I got my license) because I was dumb enough to whack the throttle to experience how to wheelie on a stop light. But hey, these things actually taught me a lot of basic things and instill a lot of common sense & respect in handling motorcycles especially the throttle because holy shit, these 2-strokes gems are absolute blast to ride. I'd still get an NSR150/250 if I manage to find one here in our country or to where I migrate.

    I was riding my 1974 RD350 on a 150 mile weekend trip in 1975 to visit my mother when, 30 miles from my destination, the bike slowed down as if a parachute had been deployed. I knew that it had seized for some reason, but managed to nurse it the rest of the way at low speed. Saturday morning I found that the rolled pin, which controlled the length of the oil pump stroke, had come out, so I was metering oil in amounts intended for idle speed while traveling around 70 mph. I pulled the jugs, took them to a small repair shop to be bored to accommodate the pistons and rings I got at the Yamaha dealership, tapped in a new oil pump pin, installed pistons, jugs and heads, torqued the heads and Sunday afternoon was on my way again. That's the beauty of a two-stroke -- simplicity. (In later models, Yamaha replaced the rolled steel pin which was prone to wiggling out). Your video was enjoyable, but a quick diagram or mpeg of a two stroke engine going through its cycles would have been a helpful addition. I also might mention that, even though the two-stroke has twice as many power stokes per 720 degrees of crank rotation, I believe that this does not automatically mean twice the power per displacement, as efficiency has to be considered. Finally, I would love to have an RZ350, even at my advanced age.

    I owned a Kawasaki KR1 and then sold it and bought a KR1-S. It was green and black and I believe it still holds the record for the fastest ever top speed recorded on a 250cc off the shelf street bike - 139mph. My biggest regret is ever selling that bike. I loved it.

    I’ve been riding for 52 years, I’ve had many 2 strokes, I now have the 400, 500, and 750 Kawasaki Triples. Which I ride regularly. The big difference between my H2 750 triple and my Z900 RS is the fact, there is horsepower and then there is 2 stroke horsepower. Hundreds of moving parts vs. 6 moving parts. 2 Strokes have very little parasitic drag, where 4 strokes are all about parasitic drag. Because you loose part of your intake charge out the exhaust port,🎉 2 Stokes get less gas mileage compared to a 4 Stroke. But in my opinion the death of the 2 Stroke was the exhaust sound, do you want your motorcycle to sound like a angry chain saw or a Harley. People want their motorcycles to make a low bass drumming sound not a high nasal ring-ding-ding.

    I LOVE ripping my RZ350 around town with race gas and bean oil for added race-track smell. Seeing all the various expressions on people's faces is a treat. Some younger people look at me with disdain for the smoke while others try to pull their cell camera out to get a picture of a ghost. People over 40 usually give a big knowing smile and thumbs-up. Prius drivers flip you the bird and muscle-car drivers want to drag race. I've had people who should know better ask if it has a powerband or how big is the powerband. I get about 20 mpg and will tell you for a fact that riding a 2-stroke is the most fun you can have on the street LEGALLY.

    I still miss the strokers, my first bike was the little Suzuki Stinger 125 followed by an S2 Kawasaki 350, then the H2 which used to scare me every time the roads were even slightly damp so when a Magnum rolling chassis became available the H2 engine was dropped into it along with a Stan Stephens stage two tune which for a while in the mid 70s was the fastest best handling bike in N. Ireland, in the 80s I had a Yamaha RD350 LC then a 350 powervalve and my final stroker in the 90s was a beautiful little Aprilia RS250 (probably the best handling bike I've had) now I'm a lot older and enjoy my Street Triple RS but still miss the sound ,smell and power band of the strokers.

Three months after I bought it I was hit by a guy in a minivan who decided last minute that he needed to get gas so he turned from two lanes over without looking and I got knocked down. Bike got fixed, I used the compensation money to buy a JHA full exhaust system, 'racing' air intake, and derestricted CDI. Had a shop adjust the jetting and do fine tuning. Made 78hp at the rear wheel. Fastest but scariest thing I've ever ridden.

    In fact i started riding on a 2 stroke Back in 2018 ... In Germany there is a Community around the 2 strokes from the Germen Democratic Republik. Mainly for the 2 stroke 50 ccm Simson Bikes with around 3.5 HP because you can ride thos with the age of 15 unrestricted (you can geht speeds Up to 70 or 80 km/h ... Don't know whats the equivalant for that but i think around 45 mph). And If you get a bit know how you can get a lot more Power Out of the 50 ccm by Just manipulating the Zylinders. And a lot of people Love there 2 stroke Cars 😅

    I rode for a while a Yamaha TR2 250 air-cooled factory race bike - only on track. Who knows what power it made, but it screamed with a power band between 11500 and 12000 rpm. At 7000 rpm it couldn't pull the skin off a custard. It was a blast to ride, constantly rowing through the gears to keep it on song and brakes no better than dragging your feet along the ground. It ran on Avgas and needed a new set of plugs about every 30 miles (48 klm). Definitely my favourite two stroke. I'm on the lookout for any 80s two stroke to restore and ride for the pure fun of it. Who needs a sports bike when you got a screaming mess between your legs.
