    "I'm not trying to excuse what he's done." And from I can see, neither is he. He didn't make excuses, he didn't try to dodge responsibility. He didn't even try to hide his actions. He admitted it was wrong. Took responsibility for his mistakes and resolved to try and make HIMSELF a better person. He didn't try to get back in the spotlight, and he didn't blame others. And that is why I can forgive him.

    I do disagree on 1 thing sex addiction is not real. I wanna fuck 24/7 like 30+ year and since the age of 9 all I thought about was sex since the first time I saw soft core on cinemax. I get it people saying they are sex addicts but seriously I think all men are until the get ED and then they still are they just can't go as often as they want. Sex addiction doesn't make you act a complete douche maybe makes a lil douchey but that isn't the end of the world type manipulation shit that is just thing shitty people do. Now I give him credit for not running from what he did. But for people to blame sex addiction as to why he did what he did is disingenuous. He did it cause he was a douche who had no self control. I'm not hating on Blamp as he seems cool and sincere but he would still be doing what he did back then if he didn't get caught.

    Duke Adam's not being treated as a criminal sex offender. Criminal sex offenders are arrested, tried, and hopefully jailed. What's going on here is two fold: 1) Like you said, what Adam did was unethical for various reasons. There was a manipulative and predatory aspect to his actions that, though legal, many people found troubling and disturbing. People are doing what they should do when things bother them, speaking out. 2) On Adam's part, he's said that he has a sex addiction that motivated him into making harmful choices. He went away to get help for that. (Good on him.)

And why are you this involved in his life, anyway? I JUST found out about this, personally. On another note, I hope everything you do in the dark is clean. I really do. Because if I found that you were on some dirtbag shit, I would be just as judgemental towards you as you are towards him.

  • @0urmunchk1n

    @0urmunchk1n

    4 жыл бұрын

    @@Jay-Jones So there’s a lot to clarify here, but let me begin with that TL;DR: People (not just me, but you and everyone else) are free to make market decisions, with our attention and our money, on whatever basis we individually choose, even if those decisions are hypocritical. First, to clarify my position on Adam, I think what he did was the right way to handle the situation. His actions weren’t illegal but it was unethical. The argument that they could have walked away is a lot like saying that someone shouldn’t have gone down the dark alley alone. To my understanding, based on his account, he was leveraging his position for sexual favors, specifically nude pics. He took responsibility for his actions and is going on to become a better person, apparently including therapy. Just taking responsibility makes him a better person that many in his position. He’s now starting to ease himself back into public life and that’s cool. As I said before, good on him. I’m not down on him, but I’m also not going to whitewash over what he did. That said, after this conversation, I’m unlikely to bring it up again. Now for a further clarification, when I say people, I mean anyone that engaged with his work at WhatCulture, or more broadly anyone that engages with any performer’s work. That includes their behavior, their politics, anything people become aware of. Let’s take Colin Kaepernick as an example. From my point of view, here’s a guy who used a moment dedicated to honoring the United States, a country with a central ideal of freedom of speech, to make a statement, and people get down on him for that. That said, I’m not going to watch the NFL, its not my thing, but they are. If they choose to turn off the TV or not buy tickets for games, that’s their right. If they hope the NFL fails because of it, that’s their right. If they choose to burn their Nikes because they hired him as a sponsor, that’s their right. If they want to make videos of them doing that, that's their right. I think it’s silly and hypocritical, but it’s their money, their attention, their right. Same goes for fans of Ted Nugent, Gwyneth Paltrow, Lois C.K., fuck it, Pewdiepie, Obama, Trump, or anyone else. “It’s his life and his business.” That’s true, except he’s a public figure. His job was (will be again?) to entertain people. By making videos he’s asking for people’s attention and, either directly or indirectly, money. This puts him under scrutiny, as any public figure would be. “And it literally had nothing to do with you.” Until it affects my ability to enjoy the products he produces. At that point it has everything to do with me and I’m free to deny them my attention and my money and advocate for others doing likewise. This crosses a line when people being lying, harassing, flooding their Twitter or Facebook accounts, making threats, or calling for violence. As long as it’s within the bounds of protected speech, it’s just expressions and markets. That’s the world. And again, when I say me I mean anyone, including you. “What "people" are you talking about that spoke out? Seems to me, he admitted what he did himself.” Back at the time there was quite a bit of back and forth, apparently on Twitter, but yeah, he handled it really well. By the time most people found out about it, he was gone. According to this video, it started with him being accused by a woman on Twitter. There was then a brief Tweetstorm of people attacking both him and her. He stepped up to her defense and then went away. I’m still not sure if he left Cultaholic or if Cultaholic kicked him out, but it largely stopped after that. “And why are you this involved in his life, anyway?” I found out about the entire incident when Cultaholic started up. If memory serves, he was supposed to be in the lineup, but he wasn’t making videos, so I searched. I found news about what happened, but by that point he was gone. But, yeah, early on, there was a Twitter storm, but not one that involved me. Adam is just an example of a larger point about “cancel culture” in general. People are free to say “I won’t support that” for whatever reason they want. Likewise, people are free to say “you shouldn’t support that” for whatever reason they want. When a public figure does something that damages their brand, which is what we’re talking about, they have to deal with that. (I think Adam gave a great example of how to do that.) If our standards are too high, and they may well be, we’ll figure that out. There’s a balance to be had between moral expectations and the reality of human behavior, with social repercussions being a mechanism for regulating the limits of what’s acceptable. To quote the meme, “we live in a society,” and all this is all inherently political. Not Republican/Democrat or Tory/Labour political, but political in the sense of the mechanism we have for non-violent social change. The point I started with was that Adam hasn’t been treated as a sex offender, he’s been treated as someone who’s behaved in a manner that’s socially unacceptable to some people. Those people can make whatever free speech and market decisions they want. Those people are free to convince you that you should do likewise as well. You’re free to convince them their over reacting. Hell, you’re free to convince me that they shouldn’t have that right, but I don’t think you’ll succeed. It’s not even that I don’t think there are troubling aspects of cancel culture. It’s that I think that shutting down those avenues that cancel culture exploits interferes with inherent rights that everyone possesses and abridging those rights in the way you would need to cancel cancel culture would be far more dangerous and damaging. “I JUST found out about this, personally.” Okay. I found out about some of it when Cultaholic started up. I found out about the rest in this video. Not sure what the point is. “On another note, I hope everything you do in the dark is clean. I really do. Because if I found that you were on some dirtbag shit, I would be just as judgemental towards you as you are towards him.” If I haven’t made this clear, you’re free to judge me. I’m working on building a board gaming company. That could make me in some sense a public figure. If some shit came out about me that affected the way you feel about my games, whether sexual, political, or anything else, you have the right not to buy them. You have the right to encourage your friends not to buy them. If you’d already bought them, you have the right to make a video of you burning them. Those are your rights. Now don’t harass me, don’t threaten me, don’t make up lies about me, etc. but I’m not immune to judgment. No one is and no one should be.
