The Internet Darlings Drama

Ойын-сауық

In 2016, Brian Zane (Wrestling With Wregret), Adam Blampied (WhatCulture), and Kevin Scampoli (TWFS) teamed up to host an event called the Internet Darlings Live. Things fell apart as soon as it was announced.

    @theswimwalkkid33704 жыл бұрын

    I get Scampoli’s method to drum up attention to the event by trying to be an edgelord heel and threatening to beat up Plumpy, but when it’s a one-sided rivalry where one guy is trying to build up this feud, while the other party thinks to themselves “this guy’s a douche” and gets him kicked out, it makes Scampoli more of an ass than he already seemed. With those three guys as the main people, it was sort of like the three different methods of youtube wrestling reviewing at the time coming together. You had W3, which has that old-school movie review style from 10 years ago, like the Nostalgia Critic, with humor that’s built off of funny quips, funny reactions, and recurring jokes and references. Adam and What Culture were mostly listacles and Adam’s fan bookings at the time, but they made up for being the “WatchMojo of the IWC” with their own style of dry british humor. Then you got TWFS, a podcast that relies on edgy shock jock humor for the most part. The problem is with bringing these styles together is the personality clashes, and the climate of the iwc in general. When you think about it, the Internet Wrestling Community isn’t a place where edgy stuff is accepted as much as other communities. Scampoli and people like him are seen as the scourge of the community, while Zane and Blampied are more safer with their humor and are seen as “voices of reason” within the IWC. I’m not saying edgy humor and wrestling is a bad combo, it certainly has it’s place. The thing is the majority of wrestling fans despise edgy humor, and the Internet Darlings show was targeted to a more mainstream IWC base. It should’ve came no surprise that the show had a rocky start.

    Looking back at it, I can see how the other parties could be seen as "in the wrong." Especially if Kevin was claiming "this big channel copyright claimed my smaller channel" to earn underdog points for himself. In the end, Kevin has no one but himself to blame for cutting stupid edgy promos that only his "LeafyisHere" type audience would have enjoyed.

    @@treflosho here's how I look at it as a TWFS fan... some of them are fucking toxic and it makes me a bit mad but it is what it is... The reason why the fans went hard on Whatculture and Zane is because they don't do many events and this was gonna be one of the few times they did... Also Bryan lied about why twfs got kicked off the event and never apologized to twfs but ig he got offended What also made kevin mad is that they got kicked off for being controversial and then Adam got into that drama that made em go MIA for 2 yrs... In conclusion I'm in the side of twfs but its prolly cause I'm biased but then again what they both did was kinda fucked

Something about Zane not having friends and no one liking him. It came out of nowhere. Maybe it was a comedy bit but I'm not with that. Zane seems like a good dude and he has a great channel.

    I feel that WhatCulture and TWFS are equally in the wrong, as they represent opposite extremes. I've never seen anything from Scampoli, but he seems to lack a filter and plays his asshole character (assuming it's a character) to the point of detriment. WC, on the other hand, was a more corporate entity and had to worry far more about their public perception, as they had, to that point, existed in mostly positive light. As opposites, especially with history between them, conflict was bound to occur.

    For the last point, i’m pretty sure there are tons of conventions who have competing channels who don’t get along well attending the events. Now if it was a requirement that what culture mention them i get it. But they have no obligation to shout out people they don’t like. Doesn’t matter if they were at the same event, they were doing the event for the fans, not for another show. They’re all supposed to be professional and saying you’re gonna beat someone up for not mentioning your youtube channel is what a child would do. Otherwise great video.
