The Right Way to Deadhead Petunias

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Petunias are such pretty flowers, but as the summer passes, they get leggy and don't have as many blossoms. Most people think deadheading a flower means just pulling it off, but there's more to it than that. Let me show you how to deadhead your petunias the right way and you'll have beautiful blooms all summer long! Thanks for watching My Flagstaff Home!

    Your example of deadheading was spot on. I watched so many videos where the flower blocks the deadheading and you can’t see where it’s being cut off and they don’t show you what was cut off so thank you so much for this video. It was so helpful. I’ve been doing it correctly.

    I was inspecting my petunias today after an infestation of tobacco budworms. They ate all of my pretty flowers just before a small 4th of July party. All gone. So, upon inspection today I notice where the buds were and where I deadhead them, just like everyone else and I thought there might be a better way, so thank you for the video. Much appreciated from Sacramento, CA USDA Zone 9b, and hotter than hell this week.

    @@MyflagstaffhomeAZ Again, thank you for the video. As I mentioned, all of my petunia buds were eaten, every last one, out of 18 plants. Well, I picked almost all of the worms off, so that was good. Then I inspected the plants again and trimmed off all of those seed pods where the flowers were... It was almost like turning on a light. Within days the petunias changed shape, grew larger leaves and every plant budded up like they were about to explode. And they did. Gorgeous. My wife went out to feed the squirrels and said what happened to the petunias. haha. Thanks. What a blast!

  • @MyflagstaffhomeAZ

    @MyflagstaffhomeAZ

    You'll see a little round-ish bud in the center when it's still going to become a flower. When it's spent, the space looks pretty much empty with just a tiny green bump that has a seed under it. To see for yourself. Try pulling a wilted flower out and take a look. Then you'll know what the difference is when you see one that has a bud in it.
