🔧 Built by Truckers, for Truckers 🔧
Founded by Chace Barber and Eric Little in 2016, Edison Motors is a testament to the trucking spirit. Beginning with a 1969 Kenworth Logging Truck named "Old Blue," they journeyed from Merritt, BC, hauling logs to the Yukon and drilling rigs in Alberta. Frustrated with newer trucks, they rebuilt classics from the frame up, expanding into power generation and off-grid solar systems in 2019. Their journey led to the creation of the Edison Truck, a robust electric truck tailored to logging and heavy vocational industries.
🔩 Upgrade Without Replacing: Edison Electrification Kit 🔩
Keep trucks on the road longer with the Edison Electrification kit. Upgrade your driveline to electric without replacing the entire truck. Ideal for vocational applications, this kit is a cost-effective solution. Unlike other electric trucks, Edison Motors offers customer choice. Choose between Rebuilding (utilizing existing cab and frame rails) or Remanufacturing (brand new frame and chassis).
🚚 Payload Efficiency: The Weight Balance 🚚
Edison Trucks match the weight of a normal diesel truck. With reduced motor weight and additional fuel balancing out battery weight, experience efficiency and increased payload capacity. The L series, though slightly heavier, remains comparable to a normal diesel truck.
🛠️ Keep Your Equipment with Rebuilt Trucks 🛠️
For vocational trucks, keep your equipment with a rebuilt truck. Edison's e-pto and control system integrate seamlessly. No need to replace your entire body when upgrading to an electric truck.
🔧 Bespoke Manufacturing: Handcrafted to Your Needs 🔧
The manufacturing process at Edison Motors is a testament to their commitment to customer satisfaction. Each Edison Truck undergoes a meticulous five-step process, from frame and rolling chassis preparation to final touches and rigorous testing. The focus is on building a truck that reflects the customer's requirements, embracing the philosophy of "Building The Truck Of The Future With The Quality Of The Past."
🔌 Electric or Diesel-Electric: Your Power, Your Choice 🔌
Edison Motors offers both fully electric and diesel-electric vocational trucks based on customer demands. The onboard generator ensures continuous operation in areas lacking charging infrastructure.
💡 Advantages of Electric: Power, Torque, Longevity 💡
Edison Trucks bring increased power, torque, reliability, and longevity. Inspired by electric freight trains, regenerative ability harnesses energy for efficient uphill climbs.
⚙️ Efficiency Redefined: Diesel-Electric Technology ⚙️
Diesel-electric technology delivers peak load demand energy supply. Batteries initiate movement, and the diesel generator recharges the battery, capturing braking energy for restarts. The generator's constant RPM eliminates turbo lag.
🌿 Environmental Benefits: Paving the Way for Change 🌿
Diesel-electric technology results in up to 70-100% fuel savings, directly correlating to a 75%-100% reduction in diesel exhaust. Smaller lithium batteries mean less environmental damage. Diesel-electric offers a practical transition to electric for energy-intensive trucking industries. Generator diesel engines ensure optimal fuel/air ratio, contributing to a hotter and cleaner burn of emissions.

Something a lot of us construction owners have had to learn the hard way. Rattling off-road all day really beats up our trucks.

As an off road enthusiasts we carried the quick connections for on the trail "quick" repairs. Sometimes the rigs would pop a line in a not so repair friendly place and it needed to be repaired before you can continue. A quick repair fitting and on the road. When you get home in the shop and you can completely clean the area you fix it right. This usually means replacing and rerouting the air line with all new compression fittings.

The best airline fittings I've ever seen in use are the Voss 230 push in connectors, with the correct nylon hoses they never leak at the joint with the hose, and the threaded part of the connector can be resealed with new o rings if it ever does leak. It does require a special mandrel tool to fit the fitting to the air line, but once it's fitted you'll never need to remove it, and only need a spanner to change the O rings in the unlikely event they start to leak. They're used by Mercedes benz on the unimog air systems, and I've seen even 50 or 60 year old trucks still using all original air fittings.

I think Quick connect fittings have a place in roadside repair, because if you're on a job just pop the fitting in and then you're back doing your job and it will be good enough for the rest of the day, then you fix it right (If you want to fix it right the first time go right ahead, but depending on the road it might be safer to just do the quick connect)

During my past 7 years as pretty much a handyman doing kind of everything, my boss asked me how to reduce cost of parts for everything I do around the workplace. I told him "Stop buying junk tools and parts, buy the good ones and you don't have to buy new stuff every month." He did not like that idea. I told him that he can find a new handyman.

Compression fitting, they are long term and are field replaceable with simple tools too.

As a commercial driver I learned something from this video. I always wondered why the air tanks in any vehicle with air brakes would empty out when sitting parked. Now I know one possible reason.

I've had plenty of compression fittings that simply would not come apart in the field. Also, oftentimes, there is not enough room to get a wrench on them, so i end up cutting the line and replacing the fitting anyway. I actually prefer the swivel 90° quick connects in a lot of applications. If the hose won't come out easy, you can just spin the fitting and remove it with the hose attached, and they use a fairly small wrench size. In my application, a little tiny leak doesn't matter because our compressor basically runs non-stop all day anyway, and we drain all our tanks at night.

Ferrule. Plastic air lines also need a brass insert to keep the line from collapsing

A lot of manufacturers like quick connects for the coolant lines, too. And molded plastic vacuum tubes. Those all get so brittle over time that they aren't very useful after even a couple years.

I was with you right up to about the last line. "nobody thinks of" was incorrect. It is a little thing that could make a truck last a lot longer or alternatively make the company about 25 cents more and buyer beware.

I outfit custom installs be it fixed man portable or vehicular for the military and civilian markets. If it rolls on a road it humps them ruts dunes or ditches on the dirt mud or snow off road; it still needs to be built right to go the distance period.

You forgot to mention that quick connects also occasionally lose their holding power and let the airline come out. Seems to be especially be the larger ones.

Quick connects are great, just not for the trucking industry. Quick connects is what you'd see in a factory for air operated machines. Great to quickly replace valves and such when you have 5 huge compressors keeping everything pressurized 24/7 not for a truck that sits overnight with the compressor off.

  • @aarondevries4668

Quick connects are short term repairs in a pinch at best. Always compression fittings! By the time you have issues with a compression fitting the line is junk.

I didn't know they made quick connects directly to the air line . I've only seen compression adapted to a quick connect. Different industries I guess

Fun fact about duck tape. It really was "duck tape" when it started out. "duck" was a type of cotton fabric that they put glue on to make a strong tape. It only got to be called "duct tape" when some damn fools thought it would be good to hold ducts together. It failed in just a few years and is now banned in most places. In the aircraft industry it is called 100 MPH tape.
