Amaizing review ,but for me at least huge desapointment at the end.I dont give a flying fuck what anyone thinks.I had to become lawyer ,because everyone in my family has "high level degree" .You know what I did one day after becoming layer ,went to family estate ,give my mom degree and told her to frame it and put it on the wall ,gone and became poker player ,10 years ago. Now carbon fiber I dont like its to glossy for me ,maybe in perspn its diferent ,but to spend 10x the money so someone thinks I am better?!?!?! In my whole life when ever I was paying a check in restoraunt ,my wallet was under the table its called manners!!! Now if you give me reason to pay 10x the money because I ll be safer from cyber crime ,sure ,because my cards fall out ,its poorly constructed its gonna fall apart sure!!! But to pay 10 fold the money so I can impress some jerk ,or some golddiger ...Doesnt couple of Dom Perignon do that regardles of my wallet. Now I dont live in country where we speak English ,and I am sorry for my spelling ,but man ,great great video ,I am looking to change my wallet ,but to pay 100 euros insted of 10 just for few letter on the side ,come on... I also would buy nike knock offs if it wouldnt fall apart after first rain. Used it for a day, went back to my leather bifold wallet for a day. The knockoff model won. Super light, super tensioned, the clip is so tight i have to lift it to put cash in it. Tapered entry for the cards(lifting the back card helps a bit too). Over all good $15 purchase. Currently holding 9 Cards.

The money clip is raised more on the knockoff for the 90 bucks you saved.

It says on how much KZread pays per 1000 views which is anywhere from .7-10 cents let’s do the math. Even with 10 cents on 89k views it still doesn’t cover the cost of the knockoff. Keep in mind that’s if everyone is using regular KZread and not KZread++ KZread add block or KZread Ceracube. Even if buddy is getting royalties from selling the wallets through the link and the commission is 4 times the revenue of ad revenue it still only buys 2 knockoffs. If you add total KZread money then yea the ridge is free.

I can buy knock-off suits, watches etc - I prefer to own the real thing. Sure other people aren't ever going to notice, but when you hold something that's really well made in your hand it has an emotional connection with you that you don't get with even a decent fake. I mean, little things like the screws - you can see the torx screws in the Ridge are super high quality - the fake carbon fibre one the screws look a bit crap - and the fake aluminum one they are bloody philips head, clearly cheap as shit and look absolutely awful - again nobody is going to notice except the owner, and some people are going to be fine with it - but I'd rather pay a bit more and get something that is perfectly engineered.

You sold me on the knock off!

Next to zero. All these brands are made in the same place and stamped with different names. I opted for the $17 version. It works perfectly, I’ve had it for 6 months. Lol

@@wadevenerdi1060 lol, it would not be near as far fetched as you would like to think. Especially since QC will vary from factory to factory in China. So the odds are actually quite high that there are multiple factories in China producing this item.

@S A so that's ur own prerogative but I did shell out the full price of the ridge and I can't be happier. Their customer service is what does it for me because after a year or so I no longer care if I spent 20 or 100 plus. And when 1 breaks. Like my ridge money band. They sent me screws and band for free in a matter of days.

Here's the thing with something like this. You cant really tell if it's worth the money until you own it for awhile (2+ years). Anything can look and seem just as good as the more costly one when you first take it out of the box. I have always been a firm believer in the saying "you get what you pay for".

I’ve had an amazon knockoff for over 2 years and it’s just as good if not better than the day I got it. The con he mentions in the video of it being hard to get cards in was true at first, but once you use the wallet for a few months the elastic ‘breaks in’ so to speak and it’s easy to get cards in and out. With ridge you’re paying markup so they can advertise on social media and put paid promotions in KZread videos.

These are darn close, and maybe they're made in the same factory. You're getting me to get a knockoff. (And the knockoff is a good test of the Ridge concept.)

I'm sorry to say, I've been carrying the Carbon fiber knockoff for over a year and love it. There's no way I'll ever be convinced that I should pay ten times much to get the name on it. I've never had an issue getting cards in or out.

knockoffs all day long as long as they are functional. I can switch to a different wallet when I get tire of it without feeling guilty as if it was an expensive wallet.

I had a knockoff first and loved it. My woman and kids gave me a ridge for Father's day. From using both, I can agree the build is more premium on the ridge and the cards slide in and out easier. The knockoff was great for the price and made me fall in love with the design and I got the knockoff because I didn't know if I would like it or not and it wasn't a big loss if I didn't end up liking it. However, I think the ridge has ended up being a higher quality product ( if it justifies the price is a matter of opinion ) The only downside to the knock off is, the screws holding the Carbon fiber face plate came off in my pocket and I lost too many screws to re attach the face. Those are just my experiences.

It is pretty obvious that the overall quality and experience will not be the same. And it is better to support the actual company. But for people on budget it's pretty simple to recommend the chipper one. I budget the fake one and I hope that when I will have money to spend I will upgrade to the official one. BTW ridge offering life time warranty so it is a great reason to upgrade. Thank you for the review man

I bought a knockoff on Amazon for 7 bucks and it literally functions the same as the ridge. Obviously I paid 7 bucks so I do sacrifice some quality.

I brought the Ridge, last week, it camne last night. i am very pleased with it. It feel comfortable in my front pocket all day, I hardly noticed it. i keeping to see if it was there. I added the money , and the cash band. I am very happy with the wallet. i like the light weight and protects of this wallet, i would buy it again, for my son. pay the extra money, it is worth it.

The knockoff bulky money clip is apparently a feature, where if you squeeze the top of the curved bit, it'll let you "fan" the cards out.

Just ordered the knock off seems for the money difference it's just as good with the stringer money clip on the carbon knock off Wich is what I like I carry cash.. great review!!

I'm sold, those ridge wallets are hella over priced and I think it looks sleeker without the branding

​@@ChrispyThings This is the first video i have watched of yours, i searched for ridge knock off's and your video was the first video that came up on google, i just bought 2 knock offs from ebay, not sure about the clip getting caught when putting it in my pocket so i bought one with a full band, but it doesnt have the side or bottom band just 1 that goes around the outside, so i bought a clip one as well, for under $11 Australian each, why not.

I'd go knock off. I'd pay $40 for a ridge but $115 is redicoulus. I'm really hard on all my EDC stuff so I'll buy a couple knock offs if they break no biggie.

I've had a Ridge for 5 years now. It is crazy how much the price has gone up on them. I paid around $45 for mine. The same one goes for $75 now.

Its probably only worth $45. They like to really sell you on the fact they use REAL aluminum and titanium but the grade of the metals they use is the most common consumer level grade.

It really sucks when you’re a maker and come out with a successful product just to have other companies profit from your design. I completely understand buying the cheaper one, I’m not wealthy or even well off and I love this wallet but I cannot afford to spent over $100 on a wallet that won’t ever even hold that much. At the same time I’m a maker myself and it’s the first thing I think about when seeing stuff like this. The time and money invested to have someone else make more money from it because they cheapen it up. It’s the type of shit that puts small makers out of business and in a deep hole of debt.

@@T.A.24 Having a company over seas steal your design to mass produce and sell it cheap will always be an issue for any small businesses that come out with a successful product and it has nothing to do with greed on part of the original maker.

this video convinced me to get the knockoff version. the snug fit of getting cards in and out actually means that the cards are less prone to sliding out. ill save some 60 bucks and get the knock off one thanks for the vid!!

Saving $$ may be a valid reason. Snug fit is not. Cards absolutely do not fall out of the Ridge.

I go for knockoffs on anything that’s not electronic, companies cut way too many corners when it comes to technology.

I have bought a lot of knockoffs products over the years and my experience is the material they use in China isn’t as good as the real thing, they just don’t last very long, however to pay $70 for a wallet is pretty crazy.

how is it? broke yet or still strong?

I have been obsessed about ridge wallet and their clones. I started with knockoffs Duxtio and Rossm “forged carbon fiber”. Returned them and ordered burnt titanium. It was not easy decision as their forged carbon fiber cost same and is lighter but I liked the look of burnt titanium better.

The money clip is raised higher so you can fit in all the money you saved from not getting ripped off by the Ridge

I have a carbon fibre ridge and I have the one with the strap but I added the clip. I don't use the clip for money but rather the strap. I actually have a loyalty cards under the strap. Interesting thing to note about this is that you always have to cut them down to size for them to fit and a TILE Sport sits there wrapped in cash. I use the clip to fasten the wallet to my pants pocket as I don't feel having it lose is secure enough for me.

I said to my wife if I mugged someone with a ridge wallet I would leave the cash and the cards and snake the wallet. She is now buying me one for christmas lol.

For this particular style, yeah, I think the knockoffs are perfectly acceptable. But then I’ve never been a big fan of the Ridge design. Sure, there are some quality differences, but I don’t think they’re anywhere near worth the premium price. Now I’d love to see knockoff versions of some of the more unique designs like Fantom, Dango, Trayvax, etc.

Here’s the thing about Ridge wallets. Yes they’re nice. But there’s so many knock offs these days that if you really don’t care about the name, then it’s super easy to get basically the same thing at a much lower price. Other wallet companies such as Trayvax don’t have a knock off version every time you turn the corner. Most don’t. I wonder why this design is ripped off and copied so much.

I use a high quality rubber band, one that is made to last and hard to break. Usually, they are black. Still under a buck. Best way to hold cards and money. You are not limited to how many cards you can carry inside the rubber band or how much cash you can carry inside a rubber band. You can even carry one card and one bill and it will be secure. Also it should be said that it is harder for a pickpocket to remove something from your pocket if it has a rubber band on it, as the rubber ax as some friction and it will be easier to feel it if it is being lifted from your pocket. I tried some of these wallets, not the ridge per se, but similar products and always go back to my trusted rubber band. I also carry this setup in my front pocket and not my rear pants pocket.

A viable “knockoff” to the ridge would be Armour Supply Co wallets. They have the same contouring on the lip to easier slide your cards in and come in a variety of colors/designs at about 1/2 the price.

Thing about knock offs is they wouldn't exist without the original. Is kinda rather pay the people that brought a thing into the world, even if they're overcharging.

I don't really care for brand names (unless its electronics). My concern is about functionality, usability, and durability. Like shoes, I have bought like nike, adidas and converse, and some lasted a year, while other lasted 5 years. Like my fossil leather wallet, it has lasted over 10 years. I can still use it and has developed an unique worn look and patina, but I think its time to change it. Of course, when I am deciding to buy a product, I do a lot of research, to get the right product for myself, especially if its gonna last for years. Although, I usually opt for the genuine affordable aluminium Ridge, that burnt titanium does look awesome.

I have to question whether you're comparing a brand new ridge vs brand new knock offs? I've tried a ridge and a knock off and to be honest, I havn't noticed a difference between the two, at least not so much that I would think to purchase another ridge wallet in the future. I've compared the two and mine goes easily in and out for both knock offs and ridge products however, when I had them brand new they were a lot tighter than when I had them. Eventually both products would loosen up.

The ridge is obviously higher quality. Is it worth $105 extra? That depends on your financial situation, but as a high school student, it's nowhere near worth.

lemon I always say it’s all about where your priorities lie.

As someone who's been moderately interested in ditching the old leather wallet for a slim wallet like the Ridge, I was rather surprised to see the markup Ridge has on their products. I enjoy a nice quality product and ostensibly the brand recognition that goes along with it, however, when it comes to something like a wallet function is my main concern. My wallet is not something that is on display very often, and something like the Ridge wallet isn't suitable for business cards. That basically means the only time it's on display is when I'm paying for something or when it's on the nightstand. Ostensibly it might pop-up at business lunches, but chances are that clients or coworkers aren't going to be paying such close attention that they form any judgement beyond the fact you're using an aluminum slim wallet. If Ridge wallets were perhaps only double the price of "knock-offs" it might be worth more consideration, but there's a hefty premium that I presume is largely due to the marketing behind Ridge. A good review that just kind of highlighted that Ridge doesn't seem to offer too much over the competition in these cases.

I bought a cheap one based off this review. If i like the style and function of it, then ill buy the name brand one once i wear out the cheapo. Lol.. Thanks for the help!

One thing I have noticed on all these wallet comparison channels, is that none of them use cards with number indentations on them, but in real life, we would. Do the indentations A) take up more space, and B) cause harm by scratching the adjacent cards magnetic strips?

Good comparison. Thanks for the video. It might seem a simplistic fix if your preference is a more slippery feel. Put a coat of car wax or furniture wax on the exterior of the knock off / and the interior if that's what it takes to please.

People dont understand that the little details are what costs money because it's a lot of labor hours to have someone do those little rounded or shaved edges and all. It's not material cost as much as labor hours spent to detail that drives up price.

People seem to not get that most of the time the original cost what it does because of research, quality, durability, customer service, etc. Knock offs are when you're not really serious about the product from the very beginning. Now, I'm not suggested everything priced high is worth it. But, lots of times, it is!

Most of times it's not. If I bought one of $9 (what I usually do with "knock-off's" is immediately buy 2) Even if it only would last me 1 year, I could still buy 1 each year for 10 years before reaching that $90 of the Ridge, which would probably not last 10 years anyway. And yes, I get that R&D and stuff are all included in the pricing, but actually that's the more reason to go for tge cheaper option. They didn't have all those expenses but just copied the concept, so the product will most likely be pretty close to the original thing. A minimum of $90 for the Ridge is not worth it. About $75 price would be OK, but probably it should be priced at $50-60.

I just use mobile payment. Saved me upward $90 to not have a wallet or fool around with cards. Future is cardless (and already cashless) hence why lifetime warranty is a moot selling point.

It’ll never be cardless. At least not in our lifetime. People also thought cellphones would replace watches because your phone can tell time. Your phone also has a flashlight so no need for actual flashlights anymore right? Wallets are accessories and will always be around. Sorry to burst your bubble homie. Lol no! I want people to make up they’re own minds and decide what’s better for them.

I have carried the ridge aluminum for over a year. My dad bought the knock off with the idea that if he liked it more than his huge bifold he would get the ridge. He still has the knock off because apart from the price they are nearly identical. Note we do not use the money clip. We wrap two $50 notes around a card to keep the profile to a min.

Matt Gagnon sorry bro, we could not figure out the exact one. There are so many now. My dads is also aluminum. It’s a bit lighter in color. I can tell you that a carbon fiber knock off my dad got did not have RFID but the aluminum knock off does.

I am not one to get knockoffs of anything as I prefer name brand things with quality. The nice thing about purchasing a Ridge is the Klarna payment plan. I purchased an alluminum Ridge wallet for $68. I paid $16.88 up front and was charged every 2 weeks another $16.88 3 more times. This justified paying that amount for a wallet as I didn't miss the money like I would have paying $68 bucks upfront. I considered another wallet that was slightly less expensive but still a brand name but since they had the payment plan, I chose the Ridge. Not disappointed at all. I would be if I had a no name wallet regardless of cost. That's just me though. I think the knockoff seems great for someone who doesn't care about name brands or higher quality material as Chrispy said in the video.Thanks for the reviews!

Get the knock off. You’re wasting money getting the ridge. It’s just not worth the huge up charge. I bought the Hayvenhurst for $20. Rock solid. Amazon.

I’ve had my ridge for two years never had an issue, I had screws fall out contacted ridge got a new set of screws sent to me I never had another issue with them.

Time for some screw lock ...

I decided to buy a few (two) of these knock offs from amazon. Both of them had sharp edges, which resulted in a small hole in my pocket. I then filed the edges down, which helped. One was alot easier to slot the cards in, even though the other had a pull tab. Also one had a screw that fell out instantly, because the hole for the screw was broken, which meant i had to glue it down, and not being able to take the "carbon plate" off again. These knock offs can be quite good, but the quality control isnt.

I wouldn't call the other brand a knock off. It's just a different branded wallet. Same thing with a Walmart brand trifold wallet. You don't call another branded trifold wallet a nock off

@@ChrispyThings I'm not sure. Around 2001 my dad had a wallet just like that before. But from a different brand. So the design didn't just come out. Mabe they want to gain more momey from the design. But I could be wrong. I own the Ridge aluminum wallet and I love it so far.

A few careful seconds with an razor blade and you could add the chamfer to the plastic to guide the cards in on the knockoffs.

I picked up a $10 carbon fiber knock off , it's scratched up but despite being dropped, sat on or stepped on its never cracked or chipped 👏👏👏👏

Thanks for the video. My leather wallet is almost 2 inches thick (that's what she said) and I've had it. I followed your link and ordered the carbon fiber knockoff. $12 plus $6 for same day delivery. I'll share my thoughts when it comes in.

I wish I could afford the authentic Ridge wallet but I'm really pleased with the knockoff I got. Mine is slightly different from the ones you featured here. The indentation for removing the cards on mine is in the middle instead of the top which makes it a little hard to remove the cards until you get used to it but it does have the beveling at the edge to make it super easy to insert cards. I got the knockoff by Lexture. Only thing I don't like is the really big branding. I cover it with my cash in the money clip.

Still waiting on that mixtape. I also always forget that in Canada, it means multiplying the price by roughly 1.2 and then adding another 13% tax at checkout. Oh joy!

I only use the ridge, but Axwell looks pretty good

OneNote with the ridge if the money clip or elastic brakes there's a guarantee and the ridge will send you another one. Also another note aluminum has many different grades oh, you're not getting a high grade aluminum for 10 bucks. I'm sure that most of the knockoffs will work just great however I am not someone who would want to take a chance that the elastic breaks and that I lose my credit cards and license and I'd rather spend 70 80 bucks more and get something that gives me a little more peace of mind. Also for me a hundred bucks isn't too much of a big deal. However if money is tight then go for the knock off there's probably not much left on your credit cards anyhow.

The premium you pay for the brand is 85% of the price. You pay for vanity not quality.

I’ve had the ridge titanium for several years and the interior panels are milled aluminum not plastic and that is what provides rfid protection.

Any electrical conductor (titanium and aluminum, could use copper or steel) provides RFID protection by reflecting the signal before it gets to the cards. Carbon fiber (made with real carbon fiber) is resistive and thus also provides RFID protection by absorbing the signal before it gets to the cards.

Love the review helped me decide that I could go for a knock off and still be alright yes ridge will be the benchmark but when you get most of what ridge is offering the price ain’t worth it thx again for the review P.s don’t reply to the trolls you do you

The design of the Ridge wallets seem more well thought out. Having a valley-shape to guide card inserts is a useful subtlety, and they probably used a particular material or coating to modify the static and kinetic coefficients of friction. As a small physics lesson, it usually takes more force to get an object to slide across a smooth floor, but once it starts moving, it requires relatively less force to keep it moving at a given speed. There are some exceptions like Teflon, which has equal static and kinetic friction coefficients. Anyways I'm not sure if those small engineering improvements are well worth the increase in price, but small details like that can sometimes go unnoticed, especially if people only look at products from only the images on the product's website page. This is a good video. I was tired of watching the lazy compilation videos, where people just put the promotional videos in a back to back playlist.

From an engineering standpoint, a Dremel will give it bevels. From a security standpoint slightly more internal static friction means less likelihood of cards coming out when you don't want them to. Otherwise you're dead on. Excellent video especially the part about "the critics were right". Rare to see that these days.

Loved your physics explanation. The average user won't know that static vs kinetic coefficients are the difference, but over time they'll "feel" the difference. Those things come down to the subtle "usability" factor. The annoyance of struggling to slide cards in and out would eventually get tiresome.

I just bought one for $15 on Amazon. Cool beans.

Def not the same.. the ridge money clip soothes my finger tips more.. worth the extra $100 for sure

when you whipped out the 15 dollar one i immediately thought ridge was a ripoff. wow dude. ridge literally bought these wallets off amazon 15 bucks a pop and sell them for 115 dollars. oh my god

I have a ridge wallet but a older version. I was happy with it but lost the screw driver when I move. The wallet did the job but the screw are falling and since I am kind of ruff and the top is damage. I saw your review of the Dango and I order a Dango T01T Tactical wallet jet black. Thanks for the review it was usefull.

There are "knock off" versions that have flared edges to help inserting cards, i'd pay attention to that when looking for one. But i reckon the main reason you are having more resistance on inserting cards is just the strength of the elastics. The elastics stretch and lose some tension over time. Ridge at this point is just a luxury brand. They are not bad card holders by any mean, but most of the price comes from having that ridge branding. Oh, and contrary to popular belief, carbon fiber isn't really all that expensive. Here it's just a composite of carbon fiber twill and some resin. More complex parts take some labor, but a simple sheet with a cutout is cheap enough to make it into a $15 product. Heck, i could make it at home with minimal tools and effort.

As someone who bought a carbon fiber knockoff. I've owned it for a while and I've put it through hell and it still looks great. I love that thing. I can't understand the price of the ridge.
