    Karl actually did a short video where he went back to that house and identified the note and the flies. Basically proving it was real because people doubted it.

    Wish I could remember the episode numbers, but the best ones to look for are the one where Karl predicts the future. The two where Karl makes movie pitches. The one where they end with what they would do if it was their last day on earth and Karl makes Ricky laugh so hard he falls off his chair. And the one where Karl talks about war time poetry. Oh, oh and the one where they talk about dopplegangers. One of the greatest Karl lines ever come from that one. I won't spoil it

    He reacted similarly to how I did watching this for the first time I think with someone who showed me this show. Random but real - isn't it so damn weird that you can watch things by yourself and find it funny as hell and barely crack a smile, but the moment there's someone else you can see reflect the same reaction you're more likely to let it show at full. We are strange creatures.

    I think the "sense" he talks about is just that our brains process a lot of information that we dont actively think about. If a person walks up behind you and stands there, you stop hearing their footsteps in close proximity, theres a subtle shadow in your field of vision, theres a slightly different air pattern on your skin because they block the breeze from a fan. I think its just a lot of our regular senses working with such slight information that we dont attribute it to them.

  • @OfficialSituation

    So Monkey news was a feature they did on the radio because Karl would often come in with a ridiculous story about a monkey and so made it a regular thing as well as taking it over to the podcasts. Another great episode man! Nice one! :)

    “Faffing” messing about doing menial things that don’t really amount to anything or you shouldn’t be doing in the first place. It’s pretty much the act of procrastination, but can also mean messing around or casually tampering with something when you shouldn’t be, in the context of someone telling you not to.

    'Gaze Detection' is the sense that Karl is desperately trying to explain. It's part of our ability to sense obstacles or other dangers. Messages from our peripheral vision are sent to our brain even if we can't consciously acknowledge them in the moment. Proprioception is our ability to realise the position and movements of our body without sight. - Your friendly neighbourhood Biology geek.

    I’m just seeing these reviews of yours, so I’m sure I’m someone has mentioned this. This trio all started on Radio XFM when Karl was a producer assigned to RG and SM. He introduced some gems on that show. Rock Busters, Educating Ricky, Monkey News, Karl in a Film, Songs of Phrase, etc. You should also check out “Ricky Gervais Guide to...” an hour long podcast covering Medicine, philosophy, Earth, and about 10 others. Fantastic. I have been replying all these in rotation to go to sleep for the last 10 years or so. Karl is comedy gold...

  • @upyours4979

    @upyours4979

    @@DevonDaVinci Yes. But perhaps that's on purpose. We are supposed to be having a human experience. If we did fully open all of our senses, we would become something beyond human. I think everyone has the capability to do so. Turning that spark of spirit inside all of us into a raging bonfire and elevating ourselves beyond the physical realm may actually be the purpose of life.

    Just in case no one has recommended this to you yet, if you are enjoying these as much as you seem to be, you ought to check out the original XFM radio shows from when they first met Karl. They are around on youtube, around an hour long each (since the songs are cut out), spanning 4 series at 92 episodes total. I guess I wouldn't suggest you do reaction content to these (especially since it's radio, so no video...) but it's their best stuff. As good as all their content since then has been, the XFM shows are really the where the comedy gold of this trio is to be found.

    The XFM shows start off quite slow because Karl took a while to get confident speaking on air, but towards the middle/end of series 1 (their first stint on air) he starts to come out of his shell and it's absolute gold! I remember one of the funny episodes when Karl started talking about his neighbour, and when Ricky and Steve managed to get hold of his old school exam results. Anyway, don't want to spoil it but just wanted to warn you that the first episodes (Saturday shows on XFM) were slow at first and the audio wasn't the best, but trust me, it gets so much better and series 2 is just some of the funniest shit I've ever heard on radio.

    "The ability to know where our arms and legs are, even though we aren't looking at them" isn't a new sense, it's called "Touch" or "Feeling" because you can feel your arms and legs, because they are attached to you. You have had a real Pilkington moment there, mate.

    Proprioception, the kinesthetic sense, provides the parietal cortex of the brain with information on the movement and relative positions of the parts of the body. Neurologists test this sense by telling patients to close their eyes and touch their own nose with the tip of a finger. Assuming proper proprioceptive function, at no time will the person lose awareness of where the hand actually is, even though it is not being detected by any of the other senses. Proprioception and touch are related in subtle ways, and their impairment results in surprising and deep deficits in perception and action.

    Don't bother with xfm...the TRGS is like a scripted tightly edited "best of" of xfm ... I love the show but what annoys me is in the scripted version (TRGS) Ricky wrote much of the "intelligent" stuff like where he talks about Pavlovian Conditioning or breaking down Karl's story with "logic"...but in XFM he was a moron... he was just rude to Karl and that was it and laughed about it ...but ofc when it came to scripting he actually created a different Ricky ...a smart one lol and the show got big in the US and now people see him as almost on par with Dawkins and Co... it's laughable
