Фильм және анимация

Every Delhi gang has a moment at the end of the night when each and every member becomes a desi version of David Letterman and Jimmy Fallon. These are some live takes from those sessions, where the gang discusses everything about music and the life around it.

gr8 points guys. one observation: musicians/music producers these days have also become disconnected from theatre and drama/film music essentials to a certain extent. So one can say we are essentially following the model of west for instigating musicianship inside us but applying it in a medium which we probably do not completely understand or would take time to understand.

That's a great observation man. We need more bands and especially musicians to shorten the years it takes to get this shit right.

Security wala part joh end me bola woh bahot dil ko laga even if it wasn't about music solely. Everyone is trying to just survive and need security in everything. 😢

Bollywood music is a guilty pleasure at best for most people who really study music. The fact that bollywood doesn't have it's own unique sound plays a part. It's always a bastardized version of an already mature existing genre. It could be funk, jazz, hip-hop, rock, whatever. For the average audience it's the perfect way to experience all genres at a slightly dumbed-down level. But anyone who seriously experiences music will always know 20 acts who does the genre better much better than what bollywood does for that genre. It might be great as 'pop' music but digging into it will rarely give you as much pleasure. One such example, the song 'Khwabon ke parindey', a great song but the moment you listen to Stan Getz, it gets found out. And once you know about the existence of a Stan Getz, it is very very hard to take the bollywood-ized version very seriously. Notable exceptions exist, Rahman in the 90s did an excellent job of adapting, bringing in new sounds, taking inspirations but then making music which would stand up to intense scrutiny compared to any comparable song in the same genre coming from the West. But this shit is very very rare.

India definitely has a "singer oriented" music industry. Starting off with some of the songs that are clear copies of old songs, remixing has just taken stuff to another level of BS. It's all about popularity and what can go viral. It's clear that a song being judged by popularity is not a song that going to last with the listeners. That's why a Bollywood remix listeners is not going to feel the same way about a song like I do when I go back to something like a linkin park minutes to midnight album. The main problem lies with the fact that people who are making music in Bollywood have no say about the song. It's all about what the director / producers feels is going to be commercially viable.

@@trpdelhi I mean I have 0 correlation with today's Bollywood music. But honestly, the only albums or works that I have heard are along the lines of Rock On, and Rockstar, and all the Rahman work like rang de basanti. I mean if someone asked me what is Bollywood I'll just say " A commercially driven film industry where films are made without scripts/stories and music is made without musicians."

So apparently, I think it isn't justified to say that Indie wale bhi ussi topic pe likh rahe hain ki ladki chhod gayi and sharaab start kardi. Love and breakup (sadly lol) are the most common phenomenon that happen in almost everybody's life. So it's the easiest thing to relate to. Now, what I'm more interested in is not singer-songwriter stuff, but something like say Tigran Hamasyan or say Hamsa by Rohith and Layth and stuff like that. Jacob Collier, Gabriel Geszti, reharmonising songs and making them sound more apt and unique rather than commercial. This is what I feel the indie scene needs to do right now.
