This was complicated enough of a video to make, taking over 3 months to make! It wasn’t helped by DJI changing the firmware just as I had finished the original part 2 which immediately made it out of date and then made worse with a few weeks of COVID-19!
But, I squeezed it in before the year was over with what was supposed to be another 30-minute video but become its own 1 hour and 12-minute video as Three is such a complicated drone to review!
It works as a part 2 but also as a standalone ultimate review of the DJI MAVIC 3. Where I go over what’s good and what’s not so good but also attempt to show you how to get the best of this excellent but flawed drone.
Much of what I talk about her could change due to firmware updates so at the bottom of this description, I have a list of things that I will update if they change or not.

Somewhere out there there is a parallel universe where Philip Bloom doesn't use his talents and experience to make hour-long review videos of popular electronics which he releases for free. Wow thanks for a great and honest review. I bought the 3 when it was released and sent it back after flying it for 2 weeks. I like to do a lot of reveal shots and flying over tree tops and felt I could not do it safely in d-log (could not see without preview LUT). I really feel they are trying to force us to buy the RC Pro. A real downgrade from the Mavic and Mavic 2 Pro was the controller. One programmable button?? What were they thinking? Now I have to constantly take my fingers off the sticks to make adjustments. Not good if you are trying to get cinematic moves. I also spent 3 batteries trying to smooth out the movements. After an hour and a half and still getting choppy movements, I landed, packaged it up and sent it back to DJI. Maybe a future buy, but not now. Signed the petition, bring back tripod mode!

Happy New Year mate! I hope you're feeling better. This was the first video of 2022 I watched and as always it was worth the wait. The shots of the London skyline on the telephoto lens were absolutely stunning. It's frustrating to see how the drone could have been an absolute game-changer if they'd doubled down on the telephoto sensor! (Though to be fair, I hadn't factored in the danger of snooping voyeurs).

Excellent film. You nailed every concern I've had about the Mavic 3. It seems DJI keeps trying to give us less for more across all of their product lines, save the 4D. Hopefully Autel, Skydio, Alta, and X Dynamics can give DJI some proper competition. I personally find the X Dynamics Evolve 2 to be a much more interesting offering than the Mavic 3, and a better value as well. Thanks for the hard work and dedication. Good stuff as always!

But we did start to use DSLR in the filming, a big svare for the existing TV photographers that where hauling around giant cameras. You are blessed with very good eyesight as I didn't always see the differences that you do, however, on the other hand I am 75, not your age. Thank you. This is what a proper review should be like. Really convinced me to put off spending all that cash on one of these for the time being. Think I'll be fine with the 2 pro for a while.

Thank you so much Philip, that's not a review it is really a friendly and trusted opinion by a professional using tools at it's maximum sharing the results with us. By the way I really don't understand if Prores vs h265 is really a big step up.

Just another amazing video, Philip! My vote at the Oscars for best documentary! (In all seriousness this should be mandatory Mavic 3 & General Drone Owner viewing.)

Watched every minute of this review. Thank you so much for all the time, effort and of course creativity you put into this review. It's a fair review of a drone with so much potential. I am working on a review of the Mavic 3 for Professional Photographer Magazine and I can tell you, I've had many of the same experiences you have. I applaud you for the thorough and entertaining review - I think you should do more of these. It's a refreshing change from the "reviews" of so many KZreadrs out there. I've enjoyed your channel for years and look forward to more of your creative work. THANK YOU!

Thank you. I’ve done a number of these over the years. I just can’t do too many as they take too long and i would lose my house! The air 2s review was less critical because it is less flawed and much cheaper. You can let more slide there!

Excellent video Philip. I hope DJI comes through for us on all the improvements there are to be had. I signed the petition, and hope DJI takes notice.

Signed petition. Tripod Mode is absolutely why I buy DJI products. Need these products for professional business and Tripod Mode is the cinematic standard.

So much detail. So very much appreciated. Re: the missed features in the Mavic 3, I suspect it's got a lot to do with culture. It's hard to say this without coming off as controversial, but I've been to China many times and worked for a Chinese-based company and they operate differently. They are capable of incredible things and are not averse to taking risks and pushing technology but they have a very different perspective when it comes to customer service and the relationship between customer service and brand loyalty. Despite many wanting certain features that are easy to implement at a firmware level rather than a hardware level, the concept of saving face plays a huge role. Implementing these changes can be seen as acknowledging an error or failure. Something that is culturally very, very difficult to swallow. I'd be very surprised if the Tripod Mode petition makes a difference but hey, I could be wrong! Here's hoping! Wishing you a Happy New Year Philip and I hope you have recovered from your sickness.

Thanks! Yeah he isn’t into them but also Canadia is tough on drones. That’s why despite McKinnon doing a sponsored video on this one he couldn’t fly it. Only under 250g without a pilots license!
