“She hung on for me, her girls, and for justice”
August 2nd, 2015, Gahanna police receive a frantic 911 call from a Speedway gas station, that a woman is set on fire. As she is rushed to the ER, her boyfriend tells a bizarre story that she caught on fire while lighting a cigarette. No one expects her to survive, with a 110% mortality rate, but 7 months later, she miraculously wakes up. Only she can tell the truth of what really happened to her. This is the unforgettable story of Judy Malinowski, the girl who testified for her own murder and brought justice onto her own killer.

She did it. She was lit on fire, and was quite literally being put to death, but she still didn't believe in putting the man who did it do death as well. She passed a law to save other victims, knowing it would not save her case, and yet she still did everything she could to help. With every single second of her life from then on, she fought everything. being in a coma, suffering burns, probably many organ failures though I am not going to look for it, she died 7 times, and kept fighting. And in the end, she did it. I am not embarrassed to say I cried. I do not feel weak for shedding tears. I feel empowered by Judy's sheer will to live. I feel loved simply from thinking of Judy. I may never have known her, but Judy will forever help me. So many people stay strong despite all odds against them. I hold these people in my heart. I may not change the world, I may not live a significant life, I may not effect much. But for what it's worth, I still try. I may not be an amazing person well known for anything. But that will never stop me from doing amazing things. Again, I never knew Judy, But with what I can do, I will fight to help her cause. I may not have much money to donate, But I have all the words my breath can say. We all do. No matter how quiet you feel, No matter what stands in your way, You can still say something. Not all of us can say something literally, But all of us can sure as hell say something with our actions. We all can say something. Even if you try and fail, The fact that tried in the first place says all it needs to say. If you try to help, your trying is enough. Not all of us are strong enough to climb the whole metaphorical staircase, Not all of us are strong enough to even set foot on the first step. But all of us have strength in one way or another to lift our feet and try. So next time I look up at the flight I have to climb, I'll just look at the first step and think of Judy. I've already climbed some steps, and I know I will climb many more. And with every step I take, I have even more reason to keep climbing. I am so proud of Kaylyn, of Madison, of Bonnie, of David, of Danielle, of Patrick, of Dan, of Sue, of Nicholas, of Joseph, of Mark, of Patricia, of her family, and I am so very truly proud of Judy. Stay awesome, stay kind, and take a few sips of water. You deserve it, every single one of you.

I think it's possible that they could not adequately prove intent. It seems obvious now after we've heard Judy's testimony, but to charge him and not be able to prove it and have a jury find him not guilty of that charge could mean they couldn't take other actions later.

What is a shame though, was the mistakes that everyone made including the mother, by encouraging Judy to continue taking the drugs and trusting the so called "doctors", which led her into rehab, which began to put her in contact with other drug addicts (friends as they said that introduced the evil scumbag to Judy). And it should be made clear to everyone, that if you do (foolishly), choose not to judge evil personified as what it appears to be, then you better dig deep and do some research before getting involved with them. From what they said about his criminal history, a simple search could have, and should have been, an absolute no-go, no matter how desperate she was for a relationship. This is the first time I've seen this, and my first thought before watching it was, "how did such a beautiful girl get involved with such an ugly looking thug that looked like he was straight from a horror film. (I guess it's one mistake leading to another, and another, and then compounding to a disaster. We all need to be vigilant and watchful for deception and evil in every form, because none of us are immune from attacks.) And as far as the sentencing for disfigurement being increased to only 20 years max, what it really should be, is the 1-20 years, PLUS, the attacker(s), that are convicted of 'clear intentional disfigurement to their victim', also receiving the same disfigurement to live with. I am thankful though, to hear that the family, including Judy, expressed their faith in Jesus as their personal Lord and Savior. Jesus said Hell is a place "where the fire is not quenched"- forever. Truly accepting Jesus as your Savior, and making him your Lord, is the only way to avoid Hell, and to make Heaven your eternal home instead.

Between the pain any time my arm moved, feeling my body was heavy as a rock post anesthesia, and being out of it from the painkillers, i dont think i wouldve heen able to reliably testify at all... ...and that was 1% probably even less than 1% of what Judy went through. Burns are already far more painful than almost any other type of pain, and she bad it over 80% of her freaking body. Then a coma on top of that, and over 50 surgeries??? Oh my god i dont know how anyone can survive it, Judy embodies the human spirit through the worst adversity. What a brave person, fighting for herself, fighting for people who suffer the way she has, fighting for her family, all that and more. It is simply beyond words. And she had already fought cancer and resulting surgery! I dont even know how someone could go through that and be there for family members on top of that. Kudos to her. I pray judy has some sort of peace or joy in her life since then despite all of this, i dont know how one could even unpack and process the aftermath, but i hope she does.

I once had a girlfriend who was divorced from an abusive man. About four months into the relationship she says he's gone through rehab, is in counseling for anger management, and she says she still loves him. Six months later the headline reads:: "Woman bludgeoned to death on her wedding night." He had gotten drunk at the reception, and accused her of flirting with one of his friends. The friend would testify at his trial claiming she came on to him. So instead of murder the guy gets 12 years for manslauter. The previous records of abuse were not allowed as evidence. Sad, all these years later.

Seeing him on the court without remorse makes me wanna wish that he's crawling around the jail with his decaying flesh and maggots snacking on him while he's still alive... What? I don't think you understand how the courts work. This is the prosecutors fault because they bring the charges. The judge gave the highest maximum sentence for the charges he pleaded to. She did her part. Prosecutors love to plead down so they can avoid a trial. They agreed to this plead deal because they're the ones that offered it to him.
