The Resophonic Guitar with Jerry Douglas l My Guitars
Музыка
Jerry Douglas gives an in-depth tour of some of his favorite guitars, where they came from, and a bit of Dobro history.
This video is from Jerry's on-line streaming instructional course, "The Resophonic Guitar with Jerry Douglas." This video is a part of that course where Jerry shows you how to move from chord to chord. In the course itself, Jerry covers the fundamentals of learning to play: Left Hand, Right Hand, Picking, Blocking as well as performance tips, gear preferences, and a tour of the mechanics of the resonator guitar with luthier Paul Beard. For more advanced players, Jerry also explores the nuances like the role of the Dobro in bands, classic Dobro licks you must know, jamming the Blues, backing a singer or soloist, and a performance/analysis section on how to play songs such as "The Cincinnati Rag" and "Fireball Mail". Thank you. I enjoyed this.
I own and love the Earls cd s. You have a great voice/phrasing for classic FlattnScruggs music. I grew up listening to them on WTIK Durham. ✅👍🙏
Wish you would have touched more on your Tim Scheerhorn guitars, that’s the sound that me (and other millennials) fell in love with
Thank you for taking the time to talk about these guitars. Your knowledge is incredible and your love for the instrument shines through. I could listen to you for hours. Thanks again.
Very interesting! Thanks a lot. Love your playing.
I knew RQ Jones in the ‘80s when his shop was in Wanette Oklahoma. I went to school there with his son.
I love y0u Jerry, Met you through John Haitt
I PLAY THE SLIDE PRETTY GOOD ON A GUITAR but THE DOBRO IS ANOTHER WHOLE "THANG"... I LOVE YOUR DOBRO PLAYING IT'S SOUL SOOTHING ..great information..
Thank you for explaining these wonderful instruments
Great info, thx. I’ve had a ‘35 model 27 for decades. 100% original. Sounds GREAT.
Very interesting presentation. Thanks!
Jerry Douglas, I didn't really dislike the Dobro but didn't really care for it that much....... but when I first heard you play, ("Alabama Jubilee"....You, Chet Atkins, Bela Fleck... can't remember the other player)...... I LOVED the Dobro and became your IMMEDIATE fan!! Thank You for all of the Beautiful Music, Sir!!!
Thanks for the cool info Jerry. One can never have enough geetars. Come back to Michigan someday soon. I have lots of fresh Cuban ceegars. Regards, Reedplayer.
Nice info. I would add that I heard that Bashful Brother Oswald played round neck dobros, rather than the square neck.
Thank you very much for this, it was very interesting for me to learn more about the history of this instrument. I am not a player but I sure am an avid consumer of your wonderful music. I very much enjoy your work with AKUS and the Transatlantic Sessions as well as Earls of Leicester. One of my favorite KZread videos is you with Alison performing Graceland. I have watched that countless times. The look of accomplishment on your face is priceless...and well deserved. Thank you for all the years of joy you have brought me through your music.
Thank you Jerry it’s about time somebody talked about dobros we are all kinds banjos and there’s all kinds of banjo makers I’m glad you did this it’s very good it’s very entertaining I did not know all this information thank you sir merry Christmas
Excellent! Thank you!
Thanks Jerry for some great History lessons and some fine sounds from your vingers !
Bless Bluegrass ❤ Love Jerry 🎉
Very cool!
I would pay to watch you play and talk guitar, if you ever get the notion to stream or record regular ill be your first subscriber
I was seduced by the sound of the resonator guitar a dozen years ago. Being a fretted guitar player (standard tuning), I glommed onto an el cheapo round neck resonator with great sound and horrible intonation. Drove me nuts. So, I ground the bridge pedestal off it and built my own tunable bridge from old Fender Tele parts. Then I bought a Paul Beard Gold Tone roundneck cutaway, which is scary powerful. But now I'm getting the burn to go squareneck. Thanks for sharing this great info, Jerry! 😎
Another American treasure that simply blows me away to hear him talk and I try and process that he's actually mortal lol
Jerry, you lucky rascal on that 27!
Thank you Jerry for the great information. Did Oswald use only a model 27 throughout his career or did he switch at some point?
Hey Jerry, Have you had a chance to play a Clinesmith resonator guitar yet? Todd Clinesmith is a really fine builder up on Oregon and quite a musician to boot.
No mention of the Scheerhorn ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
😊
He oughta know.
How does Jerry switch between the neck and bridge pickup on the BlackBeard?
I'd pay $27 for that! Great guitars.
is there a company that builds a resonator with the sound of the 27 dobro you played on here , most of the ones i've looked at sound like an amplified guitar , instead of that old lap steele sound , thanks
Adjusted for inflation that $27 was the same as $583.69 in 2022

Cheap-ish
You played a $37. Big spender! Of course you sound great! Kidding of course. Thanks for the technical background.
While Respect and Honor will always be due to the Pioneers before us . And Not because this is on your You Tube Channel , but as of right now , There is no better Dobro picker than Jerry Douglas ,,, Period ! And Again there's a lot of Pickers that have come before ,,, But none including Josh Graves can walk the dog on a Dobro like you !
