Several of his best-selling hits, including GOODBYE COLUMBUS, PORTNOY’S COMPLAINT, AMERICAN PASTORAL and THE HUMAN STAIN were made into blockbuster movies. Roth enjoyed testing the boundaries of good taste and did so with sparkling wit and although he had many critics, he forcefully questioned and criticized certain sacred American beliefs through his writing.
