Remarkable clearly wanted to distinguish themselves by giving no harm to the eye whatsoever. It's one of the perks if we see it that way. I'm loving it, when I have to work, draw, braindump at night I support myself with an extra source of light, hence, most of my interaction with the device I choose to do it during the daylight and I got used to it as a good habit. Personally I'd rather choose eye sight protection that remarkable offers by not including backlight, than keep using impactful screens all my life on a daily basis.

It reminds me of the attachable lights you put on your Game Boy.

And then the game boy light came out which changed everything, including how much time kids spend playing before sleep.

I’ve had the remarkable 2 for 2 years and I have the folio keyboard. It’s amazing. Nothing comes close to taking notes and distraction free writing.

Thanks for this review. My beloved Kobo Libra H2O died and I'm back to using my old 8th gen kindle basic without a backlight so I'm going to try one of these out, either clipped to my case or maybe I'll tape it to the rear of the unit. I've tried to use it with an external lamp but sometimes I like to read in bed without disturbing my partner, or while lying on my back and holding it above me and I hope this will be the best temporary solution!

A reader with no back light that needs another light source seems to be at a large disadvantage when choosing an ereader.

E-readers, yes. But e-writers, like the Remarkable and Supernote ... It's definitely a disadvantage. But it's not a must have for many of us.

No, it is for working in dark only. No issue. I use external light even for my reader with built-in light to avoid using ereader battery.

I've found that reading the Kindle is way more pleasant using an external lamp to illuminate the screen, using a little of the backlight, because no matter what they do, the backlight projects that light to your eyes, and it provokes eye fatigue way faster. With an external lamp, I can read much more time without stressing my eyes. But these kinds of tiny lamps have a very strong spotlight, and they are not that pleasant.

Very cumbersome. Had one for my Kindle 3 Keyboard, never really used it.

How do you write it dasung ming or something?

I do wish a light would have been built-in. Attach light flip off , really can't see full screen. I paid the big price , should of more reviews. 😢

Instead of developing a full product, they make people pay extra to complete the product. Paying for a lighted screen in 2023 is offensive. It's the Apple model of extorsion.
