So you can't bitch about flags when both teams were constantly either grabbing a hold of jerseys or putting their hands all over WR more than 5 yards down the field when they are breaking on their routes. The refs are the #1 reason I have stopped watching football - other than my team. Way too many times over the last ten years or so the refs have had more of an influence in the outcome of the game than the players. It's not all their fault - the rules have become so complicated and so subjective that they're impossible to enforce consistently. And, to make it worse, it's clear that some teams get more of the benefit of the doubt than others. Like a baseball ump not calling the same pitch a strike batter after batter, the inconsisitency is maddenning. Especially when it comes to calls like roughing the passer. The NFL needs to simplify the rules. They also need to assess the impact penalties have. #1 is DPI. A DPI should be 15 yards - period. The fact that one call - which, by the way, is somehow sometimes DPI and sometimes not depending on the ref and the teams that are playing - can literally change the outcome of a game is, simply, ridiculous. Bottom line is, the players should be deciding the game, not the refs.

  • @snerdterguson

    @snerdterguson

    6 ай бұрын

    They didn't influence the outcome. And they weren't bad calls. Fans are now literally upset because refs accurately called pass interference. Both teams had a ton of penalties. Because both teams kept committing penalties. Both had drives extended by penalties, and scored points because of them. I'm not saying the refs don't suck in general, but there being a lot of penalties in a game is not proof that officials did a bad job.

I didn't watch it but I can tell from what I've read and listened to that it's the same thing I've seen again and again and again. Granted, there will always be mistakes, but people get better the more time and effort they put into something. And while there might not be a conspiracy now, the combo of part time refs with the rise in sports betting means the door is wide open for a scandal that could do irreputable harm to the league. This is a problem for all sports leagues, it's a matter of when not if something happens as far as rigging games (or happen again in the case of the NBA).

    It's about damn time somebody actually talks about this. The NFL is straight up manipulating games through officials, and they only need offensive holding and defensive pass interference calls (or no calls) to do it. I'm not even suggesting the Seahawks weren't committing penalties, but they consistently get called for ticky tack garbage. Meanwhile, Dallas got away with offensive holding all game, including directly on big offensive plays for them. Rich brought up the time out the was given to McCarthy, but what about no timeout given to Pete when the officials spotted the ball late for the field goal and didn't reset the clock which is standard. None of these are mistakes.

    refs have caused at least 3 losses for the seahawks this year. both rams games (though the offense definitely struggled that first game but still, bad calls from the refs are bad calls) and this game. yes the penalties were around equal, but they took a huge TD from JSN away. had we scored that and added that extra time saved to the end of the game, we wouldn't be rushing plays, wasting downs to spike the ball. seattle does do a good job in driving the ball down on the lost drive of the game so they probably come back and win it. and as rich said, 130 penalty yards on seattle in 2/3 games. yes some are penalties, but there are some BAD calls made. multiple drive ending plays or giving the other team another chance after a 3rd/4th down stop.

    Pass Interference should only be a 10 yard penalty unless it’s egregious.

    One drive had like 6 P.I.'s in it Now my Niners benefit greatly if the Hawks lose, but there was something ridiculous about the amount of calls. I hate to say it but it feels the Hawks were screwed. It seems like the refs were trying to ensure the Cowboys got just enough to win. One example was the Wagner P.I. on a crucial drive.

    I thought I was watching the NBA! And I already quit watching that league! Thanks Rich for calling out how bad Thursday Night Flag Football was.

    At one point, it really did feel like there was a flag on every play. Its like your favorite song is playing and somebody keeps hitting the pause button.

    That was one of the best games Seattle has played all year. Let the players play... listen to Tom Brady, he knows what he is talking about. Stop protecting receivers so much! We don't want umpires to control the play... let them play!

    I stopped watching in the middle of the third quarter. If the league does not get control of this nonsense, it will absolutely kill the sport.

    I just can’t believe the NFL would put a product on the field on national TV like this game. This game looked like none of these players actually played football in their entire lives. This game was a disgrace to professional sports.
