The Recon Hawk from Coldsteel vs The Black Eagle from Estwing

In this video, I do another battle of the tomahawks. Which one will you choose? #coldsteel #estwing #tomahawk

I would rather have the Estwing because it is smaller, built like a tank and could also be used for breaching. The Recon Hawk on the other hand seems to be better suited for throwing and for being utilized as a war tomahawk splitting skulls and hacking at limbs.

I’ve watched so many of your videos in the past 2 days since finding the channel. I’ve never been a fixed blade guy myself, or a knife thrower by any means. With that being said I’ve got a few on the way now after seeing some reviews and seeing just how fun knife throwing looks. Im definitely glad I found your channel but my wallet is not!!!!🤣

The curvature of the cutting edge will always bite more deeply than than an edge with no curvature . The " un- curved " edge scatters the force along a greater distance . The curved edge places the applied force more on a single point of contact. P.S.- A friendly challenge... Who knows the specific steel Estwing uses ?

Excellent Comparison to Highlight the Strengths and Weaknesses. Since Everyone will have their own Unique Priorities, it's to be able to make an Informed Choice. I would lean towards the Recon Hawk. Good Stuff. Thanks for Another Good One.

Thanks for the video mate. I still prefer the Estwing as an urban survival tool of multi tasks. Easier to conceal also and as a weapon the narrower edge will penetrate without being stuck in metal sheet or bone, same with the spike (in another video I seen this was the advantage of the traditional vietnam hawk over others with wider and beardead blades). I wonder if as a chopping tool don't acts like the Roselli axe I seen in many videos, wich is a more blunt tool but make huge chips. I can't make much experiments because I live in city and in another country, so don't have a way to compare tools or make tests.

you have a massive point about the Estwing not getting stuck. That’s the one thing about those bearded tomahawks

The estwing, true to it's maker, is the hammer of tomahawks, something the grandkids will discover .. the recon the stiletto of hawks, something the detectives will discover...

I have all the hawks you showed. 🤘 The Viking style hawk head with the wood handle is the best of these though. Why. Remove the head, and use the head as a Knife for cutting things up. Meat, veggies, whatever. Recon Hawk is great too. But as a fixed headed hawk, it's less adaptable to various tasks.

Breaching tool :) We all know what those two hawks are for :) Enhuming an enemy :) Neither are very useful for hiking or camping. They are "Tactical". But, so are all traditional tomahawks. I have 4 Cold Steel Tomahawks, and one hand made one, I got back in the early 80's, from Dixie Gun Works. And I know how to throw all five. Take it easy and keep em sharp.

@@411Outdoors And the Cold Steel one is a better weapon due to the longer cutting edge, and the sharp points top and bottom.

@@longrider42 the Cold Steel nasty for sure. The one thing I like about the Estwing though, is I don’t have to worry about the beard getting stuck.

@@411Outdoors So carry two :) Yeah, I'm a wise guy :) When armor got stronger and the sword was unable to do much. The spiked axe was the weapon of choice. And men who used them in combat, often carried two. In case one got stuck :)
