I’m not watching table tennis for long (just started a bit earlier than Tokyo Olympics), but Xu Xin is definitely one of my favourite players. We will miss you Xu Xin. Wish you good luck in your new career!

Liu shiwen level has decreased, but xu xin even if he is less strong than before is still competitive. He still can beat his fellows and above all, the rest of the world.

I don't care. Xu Xin is already legend and will be legend forever.

Xu xin likely was the last ever penhold player playing for China national team in a big event.

Many countries would definitely welcome them and include them in their national teams.

Any hero will soon or late come to his/her end! based on their recent matches that were clear that they could not keep up with the new young generation in CNT. so that is good to see your heroes start their new careers in other parts of their lives than to see them repeatedly losing matches and competitions! All the best wishes to them in their new careers.

it's a shame that Xu Xin is not on the team. He is one of the most exciting player to watch. Unfortunately, he is also one that loses to international players the most. That's why. His style requires top physical condition and he is getting older every year and it is hard to keep up with his style of play. I sure hope to see him play in international matches soon. I miss watching him.

Xu Xin is now 32 years old and Liu Shiwen is also up in age as well. Also they didn't even played a single tournament. Perhaps if they can play in the WTT Contender Tournaments to grab some token ranking points to even get into mere conversation now in the PRC teams.

But why not? Because others are being promoted to attend competitions even some of them are having inconsistent play. Wang Yidi could loose against an 59 years(!) old "Gramma" Xia Lin in Slovenia the last year. The "dark knight" Lin still in July as well. Sorry, they simply have not yet served the credit.

@@schwabvilmos6257 It is the PRC system. Only the very best gets to compete and they will determine to be doing so by the ranking of the players. Very seldom they would make exceptions to the rule. That's why many other players from the PRC went to play for other countries instead. Simple as that.

Now the Chengdu world championship is over. China is still the champion. You should know now why Xu was not chosen. A few times Ma Lon was not chosen too and the fans were crying.

This is their tradition actually, whenever young generation appear, they will give them a opportunity to shine then sometimes ignore the old one, definitely it happens in china bc of their re-generation, its actually helping them to keep relevant and dominant in the sport, however it's bit pity for me as they need to retired early to give a path to young generation, if xuxin born in another country, im pretty sure, he's still can compete till this days, same goes to wang hao, ma lin

I think they have their own personal reason beside CTTA's routine, I heard Xuxin has a baby now so he would spend more time for his personal life and in his perspective he has no motivation or goal in pro competition anymore. His prime passed, and now there are Wang Chuqin, Liang Jingkun, Zhao Qihao and more Chinese young talents already on the race. Even he competes for other nations, he still can't perform any better. This reminds me of Kenta Matsudaira, a genius who just suddenly disappeared from international stage to spend time for personal life as well.

@@TuanPham-st2zv ma long has baby too, but nevertheless i still respect his choice, he already has achieved so many things in his life, it was good if he decided to spend his time with his family after what he did in sacrificing his youth for a country

@@hesymoon8616 Ma Long also has baby, but in my opinion, he was still on fire and he was chasing for the goal that he could be the greatest legend. Unlike Zhang Jike, Liu Guoliang who retired early after getting all achievement, Ma Long's passion and desire keep going on, and he succeed in getting 2 Grand Slam which no one ever could do the same. Xuxin, Wanghao or Ma Lin they all have common is they devote their life for the pride of their country as well as for table tennis, they all at some point reach their goals and they awared when they would get down the hill. It's a wise and peaceful decision of Xuxin, and I'm grateful to his inhuman reaction and performance

I think the significance of this is - the end of penhold in China. Xue Fei, Xu Haidong and Zhao Zhihao are still in the 2nd tier of the national team. This is the first time in 69 years that the CNT is represented without a penholder.

For me it is bulsh.t. I understand the Cloudwalker wanted to care about his family. But Sunny Liu came back in a good form, competed hard, defeated Sha-Sha Sun and Wang Yidi in Macau, played well on Chinese National Games and in Singapore, won the mix pairs in Macau. Would not be it more honest to say they have lost Mr. Guoliang's trust? My suggestion is for them to apply for citizenship elswhere like Harimoto did for Japan. They would fit for all other Nation Teams. Shame on you Mr. president.

Talking of pen holder..this era is more entertaining more than 70's 80's 90's era and more vicious so offensive but why no grandslam? Its all been set?
