The Reaper's Bones NEEDS to Change // Sea of Thieves
Today we're going to discuss the state of the Reaper's Bones and the epidemic of the Reaper Runner. Not all Reaper's are runners, but a lot of them are. This is caused by multiple factors but overall it's due to a lack of understanding of Emissaries and bad marketing.
I would love if Rare would add a true PVP faction now Arena is closing down. I hope for a Reaper Legend faction.
Let's hope 2022 can set can top 2022 for Sea of Thieves. It has been touted as the biggest year for Sea of Thieves, but I think 2022 will be even better!

    I’ve said it before, there needs to be a Mercenary faction who gets bounties on ships in the server who have already sunken other players ships. Maybe players can hire mercenaries as a hired hand to guard them too.

    I totally agree, sea of thieves needs more balance because too many people play reapers bones and there's not enough reapers hunters

    I think there needs to be a emissary that acts like reapers but for PVE. Those who run the PVE emissary get more gold and rep, but also have reapers make increases rep from their flags. Allow PVE do their thing without being marked. And allow PVP to do their thing.

    Great ideas, but id like to see one more thing added: I think more people would go more out of their way to pvp, if you could sell the Reaper emissary flag to the misterious Stranger for a nice boost in Athena reputation. This way pirate legends have a "new" way of earning reputation and reapers are beeing hunted/getting more pvp experience.

    @@AShinyRay While this is a good idea, there's one slight problem; the Athena Reputation. The only way I feel this would be good for newer players. Is if this was Pirate Legend exclusive, as you could simply grind out Reaper Emissary Flags, turn them into the stranger, and get Athena 20 before becoming a pirate legend.

    Question, why not make it so that ANY emissary can sell a reaper flag for a substantial amount of gold/rep? Sure, by allowing pirate legend athenas to sell the reaper flag, it would give the reaper-gold-grinders a reasons to always be on their toes. But I honestly feel that the larger issue is that when a reaper-5 comes after you, it's because they've got literally nothing to lose, and you've got literally nothing to gain - which is why everyone just runs. But if each of the emissaries could sell a reaper flag for substantial amount of gold/rep, it would give them a reason to consider risking their treasure to turn and fight. Just a thought ^_^

    I kinda want a new tab that would have pvp exclusive rewards. Like “sink a ship by using a keg”, “kill a player with the winds skull”, or “use an anchor ball on a running emissary ship”. Stuff like this could show people the different fighting methods that add to the experience. And maybe more people would take a fight rather than running to the Red Sea.

    it could also be the Dark Adventurers i feel like they need to add a new prestige for reapers and other things like after athena 20 becuase PL is not that hard to hit

    As a inexperienced player when I started and discovered reapers bones with my friend, we would spend days selling only to them, when we got enough level to buy a emissary flag we reached one conclusion "this is a pvp faction, I will be back to work for it when I get better on pvp" why we reached this conclusion? Because we actually read what was written on the emissary tutorial

    They should put an npc of Joe Neate into all the taverns and he can just sit there explaining things like reapers and pvp regardless of whether a person is there or not. I like the idea of walking into a tavern to sell my athena chest and seeing him alone at a table rambling about tools not rules and pvp being a core part of the game.

    I think the Reapers faction is fine as is. From a gameplay standpoint, your points are valid. However, just based on the lore, the Reapers are not "the PvP faction." They are the piracy faction that stands for freedom of choice and lawlessness. These are NOT the same thing. Freedom of choice entails freedom to fight or to not fight. I think Rare needs to work on the Athena's Fortune faction above all else right now.

    That's why I've always been confused by people making fun of running Reapers, like they're contractually obligated to stay and fight. Like, they're probably just tryna get the ledger reward or increase their rank. Chase them and fight them if you want, but they don't owe you a fight any more than any other ship. I get it, they're called "Reapers" and their ability is to be able to see all other emissaries on the map (plus they can be seen on the map at all times), so it is suggested that you engage in PvP, there's PvP rewards in the commendations (with names that allude to PvP like "Reapers Disciplined" for taking out a G5 Reaper and selling their flag), etc., etc., but there is a distinction between that and "no this is a PvP faction. PvP or get out."

    Well Reapers first get the whole being marked on everyones map thing going on, which in itself makes sense for the whole being truelly without laws, but why make it so they get the positions of every other Emissary marked on their map if you dont want them to be the PvP faction and make it so the most valuable loot they can get is the emissary flags? What reason does the Reaper faction have to basically hunt the other factions? Its like Rare wanted the Reapers to be every other factions common enemy, making it so the Reaper emissaries are marked for take down for every other vassel and only capable of seeing their enemies approaching once rank five, but by making the emissary flags faction specific loot for the Reapers that whole thing suddenly looks like as if the Reapers are supposed to be the one hunting the others, that and the name. Rare, and the community, can't decide if the Reapers are the Hunters or the Hunted and in the confusion decided on both.

    A new branch of reapers could be exactly what the game needs, offering a rich pvp experience for those who seek it. My only worry is that the ‘prestige’ generated from being this essentially over lvl 75 Reaper is that it might encouraged more crews too run from this new faction. A way to counter this could be a huge reward for selling its flag to the Mysterious Stranger, though I reckon it wouldn’t make much difference. All in all a great video though! I look forward to the next and I really hope Rare go somewhere further with the Reapers, especially seeing as they are becoming a main focus of the story and world

    If they changed the way Reapers are, where you could only make progress through selling stolen loot, we wouldn't have the bad reputation that the faction is known for, and unlockable cosmetics for the Reapers would actually have more meaning.

    I'm relatively new to the game, not necessarily brand new, I've definitely had the game for nearly a year but I haven't racked too much play time on it But from the small bits of lore and my own experience I think they should introduce some form of reaper based voyages that can only be done whilst being an emissary A bit like running merchant trade routes in the sense that you'll pretty much always have some form of loot on your ship even after you just do a sale With the goal of helping the reapers build themselves up and protect their interests, I think it would also be cool if these voyages just appeared in your inventory temporarily and could be reactive to world events and other players ---- For example from what I know, the reaper's and ghosts are some how linked through this flame heart figure Maybe flame heart will reach out to you requesting that you defend a ghost fort that is currently under siege Sending you over there to take on players, you'd be able to enter the fort and defend it alongside your ghostly allies Your only requirement is to get the ship away for long enough that your ghostly allies can reorganise themselves, doesn't matter if they run away or if you sink them, although sinking them would be more rewarding Upon completion your ghostly allies would give you potentially crates and loot that needs to be returned to the hide out ------- The kind of loot you are given would start off with having okay sell rates, but as you sink and kill more pirates with that loot upon your ship it will actively level up (It will also appear on the map like other reaper items and you can tell the level by the icon) As you level it up it will become more and more valuable In addition, the three main factions want to see the reapers delt with at sea, so if you fly their emissary they will purchase reaper emissaries and reaper loot from you This will make other players who aren't reapers want to bring the fight to you, giving you the chance to level up your loot through PvP but also grants them a chance for a great reward for their respective faction

    Aye... but that doesn't really stop The Reaper Phenomenon. Everyone, who has loot to steal, abandons the server the second you start to level up your flag. Making a new reaper faction that only rewards pvp would be horribly painful if there's nobody on the server to steal from. The whole marking your position on the map is supposed to encourage pvp... but instead it actively discourages any pvp that is not server hoppers. Server hoppers themselves never have any loot to lose... so even if the reaper does defend their treasure, they get nothing except the privilege to keep what they already worked for. The Reaper Phenomenon and the one-sidedness of Server Hopper interactions needs to be addressed.

    @@AShinyRay That'd help! I'd personally set it up so that as you level up, the range of the reapers mark effect would increase. So at level 1, you're invisible, at level 3, someone can see you from like 4 squares away. At level 5, you can be seen from 8 squares away... the majority of the map. Allowing reapers the chance to level up from pvp, but not granting them immunity to counterattack. After that, you'd have to come up with some genius architecture that'd address Server Hoppers. Can you really blame someone for running when, even if they win, they'd get literally nothing? They won't even get to continue doing what they want... the hoppers will come back at least 1 more time. This interaction is too one-sided. Hoppers have nothing to lose and everything to gain in the span of 15 minutes... while a PVE reaper spends 30-45 minutes farming only to risk everything and have nothing to gain. Even a child has the basic risk management skills to recognize this isn't a fair interaction.

    @@kirafleur9870 they should just get rid of server hopping it would end the one sided fights with dudes that have 5 servers worth of supplies. In a lot of ways I prefer how the game was at launch when it comes to certain things and I hate cursed cannon balls but I'm glad for chain shot and the grenades they added. Switching servers should have consequences like losing your supplies.

    That was an eye-opening bit of info about the lack of pvp focus in the previous 5 trailers. I think your hunch about novel PVE experiences being more "grand" is on point. I would LOVE a Reaper Legends faction like you suggested.

    @@AShinyRay I'm sure this has been suggested before, but I'd also like to see a way for crews to surrender their emissary flag without being sunk. I know that this would be abused by alliance servers and would make farming them easier, but I feel like the trade off in RP potential and the bit of complexity it would add to PvP encounters would be worth it. Crews who trust their PvP skills or who just desire PvP would still choose to fight, but emissary crews who for some reason participated in an opt-in PvP incentivization system (probably because they didn't read, like you said lol) would be able to hand over the most valuable loot item, without being sunk. I feel like it would add to more "pirate" like experiences.

    Me and my friends have never actually become Reapers to hunt others. We've only become Reapers for the Renown, but ironically, it's also the Emissary where we have had the best chance of forming Alliances. We'd sail up, get the trumpet out, and use our charm to make people commit to Alliance which has a lot more steady income than killing them off. If they fired at us or said no, we'd sail away again and leave them alone. We even warned one crew about forming Alliances with Reapers as they could just kill them after an Alliance would be formed, they replied "but you're Reapers". I guess me replying, to that, "yeah, but we're good/friendly Reapers" was enough to persuade them that we meant no harm. Luckily the ship we warned him of, a fellow Reaper, joined the Alliance as well and we didn't bother anyone.

    If we ever end up getting a whole new reaper faction similar to PL, i want the main base of operations to be either, 1). A huge Spanish castle with flameheart sitting in the throne or 2). A reaper tavern similar to the PL base, i feel like a Spanish castle would make a lot more sense since hes bringing the forts through into the living world.

    i think the perfect solution would be, being rewarded for pvp in some kind, like in arena so that running has no real use anymore but fighting back, even sinking has a reward kind of. would be really nice.

    I THINK THEY ADDED IT! The hourglass pvp is a techically new fraction, with own rewards, with own level, WITH LAIR UNDEARTHETH reapers hideout, with flamehart there and you need 75 level to participate in the ritual and going beneeth so it kinda is what you talked about but PURE PVP without any loot.

    As I wrote elsewhere, a bounty system could work really well as reaper's voyages, even if it would require captaincy, which the game still has not, but let's assume there is, so: Reapers can buy bounties from RH and the goal is to sink the bounty ship, if they succed they receive a special item from the sunken ship to sell at the SoF to a pretty high price, BUT, if the bounty ship sink the reapers, their bounty increase and they receive Fame, which give them a global, yet small, bonus to all the Emissaries except the R'sB, and the more time the bounty ship sink the Reaper hunting her, the more Fame they get, increasing the global bonus. This way the reapers have more incentives to hunt ships and would get something off them regardless if they are empty, and the hunted ships have a reason to engage in the fight with the global bonus.

    I believe that for players who don’t like PVP, there should be a flag that protects you but doesn’t let you raise an emissary flag or use the cannons. The flag should be based around the protection of the ferryman or something like that.

    A few things I would like to add would be the silver. Others have mentioned it previously. The biggest issue with PvP in Sea of Thieves _IS_ the "All risk, no reward" aspect of it. All you said was great, but maybe add a bit of this: Both ships involved in the fight get Silver, but the ship that did the sinking gets something like 1k silver + 10% of the gold worth of the stolen loot, where as the one who got sunk only gets the 10% of the worth of the loot in silver. This would promote PvP, and each ship holding tons of Loot, cause if you loose a PvP battle, you can get a lot of silver.

    What if we got a level raise instead? I think they could implement your ideas of stolen loot and flags being needed to increase your rep after you hit a certain point (let’s say 75 Since that’s the current cap). Other factions could require more specific loot as well and/ or offer unique quests. Perhaps factions should requires some completed commendations to further level up

    Oh man, I would love to see an emissary Reaper on the horizon that I knew was up for a fight. We chased a reaper for ages the other night. They server hopped into our server then out of our server…and came straight back in. And STILL ran away again. Just silly.

    Does it ever occur to you guys that people who run from PVPers, do it so they can have the adventure THEY logged on to have? Many people don't want to sink other player's ships. We're there for the tall tales, voyages, completing commendations, or just leisurely sailing around scavenging loot on the islands. That's the adventure WE choose to have, and that's what makes SoT great.

    I feel like the whole running reapers issue would be basically solved, without making reapers janky as hell, if your emissary level went up depending on how many times you've sunken other players ships. So like to get to emissary five you need to sink 5 ships. The way it could be coded to find out who sunk the ship can be each new hole that is made gives a point to the ship that made it, when that hole is repaired the point stays there. The longer a hole stays on a ship the more points it will give, let's say for every 15 seconds a hole is left up it gives an extra point. If a ship doesn't take damage, excluding hitting a rock and making a hole yourself, for 5 mins then the point get reset. When a ship officially sinks it counts the point value total and gives the credit to the person who had the most points contributed to sinking that ship and if they are a reaper emissary they will go up by one level with going from 4 to 5 needing to sink two ships instead of one. I'm sure my idea is really flawed in a way I haven't seen yet but it would make reaper emissary's actually want to go and risk it all to make it big.

    Although I agree and never pve myself after you get so far there's no point. There's nothing I need gold or doubloons for. I just play for the battles cause there's no other game like this.

    My crew and I have maxed the other companies and have just reapers left, so we have started flying reapers emissaries and figured out that the best way to get gold and rep is with world events, so we usually buy a gold hoarder voyage or a merchant voyage if there isn't a good world event. We're down to fight and if we see an enemy ship in close proximity we try and battle it, but almost always the ships we chase just run and run and never stop so we give up, or the other problem we face is that the servers are very empty, we never see any ships on the horizon, and when we reaper reaper 5 there are no emissaries on the map

    When I first played sea of thieves from the past 2 years ago, I thought the reaper bones where dumb at first. But from a year and a half later, I found it quite interesting considering he will accept anything for gold and doubloons. And now I'm considering on bleaching my Allegiance to the Reapers and Flameheart.

    I'm a pirate legend and have no idea how to fight. I've been a pacifist the entire time. I would like to see a fraction that is the complete opposite of the reapers bones. For example: The more crews you have in your alliance the more gold you get. (or something like that)

    I feel like the best solution here is to slightly tweak how the Reaper's flag works: Levelling it up to 5 works as normal, and allows you to see all other emissaries, **but**, if there's at least one active emissary in the server, and you haven't turned at least one flag in (a slight change to the reaper logo on your flag when you do, maybe?), the Servant of Flame will refuse all loot except for generic and Reaper-specific loot (empty treasure chests, gems, gifs, Reaper's box/bounty)

    I feel like a pvp only faction would never work people would still run even if rewarded for pvp. Running while make the ghost pirate legend (if he even decides to fight) to throw abusive language when they kill the runner. What is going to make the person run more often since all pvpers are labelled toxic. Also loving the references to the official unofficial sot podcast.

    Just did this same response in another video from someone else. Reapers wont change anytime soon due to the current state of the game. Maybe change the grade to only increase with ship sinks, player kills, and stolen items only. Searching for ships worth sinking can be tedious and time consuming, and if I happen upon a emissary they usually do nothing for large chunks of time, resulting in less capital gained overall waiting for a single flag. And I would welcome hopper fights more often if they weren't so damn toxic, 9 times outta 10 I gotta go through the trouble of muting ppl cuz the tryhards with no cosmetics besides arena weapons wont ever shut up even when they lose. As for the idea of the hideout, oh most definitely your not the only one who wants a legit reaper hideout under the trapdoor, I've waited so long for proper reaper cosmetics beyond just the pajamas and DA set, as well as wanting it to be a whole new faction where only pvp can gain rep, maybe a flat payout for sinks and kills? 1k or 2k per player, 2500 for sloop sink, 5k for brig, 10k for gally? Idk just throwing it out there.

    The thing is that not all the combats end at ship sinking or some kills - simply and more covering said: the same. This will make it confusing for calculation system, as bringing something on a ship is easy way to lvl up flag and selling loot to designed merchants is a simple way to lvl up in that faction.

    I think reapers should be like it is, but with 2 big changes: 1. Only progress with stolen loot 2. If u get to high levels your bonus in gold or rep should increase too. (Edit: modified this point)

    Reapers should still progress the emissary level with regular loot but not give any bonus gold. But your 2nd point would just make it pointless to do reaper since the grind to level a company without emissary is long as hell even without your 1st point considered.

    I'm gonna be honest, I don't actually have as many issues as others seem to with getting people to fight me. Just existing half the time causes one or two ships to hard target me every other session. I've actually learned that at certain times of day, more aggressive players are on than at others, and just generally avoid those times of day 'cause I like to actually be able to turn in some loot. Kinda hard to get better at the game when everyone else is leagues ahead of you, so effectively playing at different times scales the difficulty down to more my speed where there's players that sometimes best me, and I sometimes best them.

    a revision on the commendation system that brings more pvp commendations would also be a huge help. commendations are monotonous and boring right now, and ones that force you into encounters with other players would be so much better than what we have now.

    It's so hard to judge, as servers are so hit and miss with how much happens. I am a new player (got SoT this month) and NOTHING but PvP and boat hunters are around to take all my hard-earned loot. In fact, it makes progression and PvE challenging because there is that much. I've nearly quit already because I'm sick of being sunk and unable to stock up any notable amount of treasure. So I guess it is all up to luck

    I don't know if it's just in the servers I play in but, it is getting increasingly hard to find reapers and/or people running emissaries flags in general. My crew usually have to find a good server (in which good server is a server where there is a reaper emissary) for at least 20 minutes.

    There should be only two changes to reaper's bones. 1. if loot is NOT stolen from other player it's value is reduced by 70 percent (with the exception of the reaper's chest) 2. Giving in loot that is not stolen should lose or not give reputation (with the exception of the reaper's chest) . The system to figure out if loot is stolen should just indicate if loot was placed onto ship and afterwards placed onto ship of the person selling the item with the ship that initially had the loot took 15 or more cannonball hits from the ship selling loot or if ship that initially had the loot was sunk.

    Instead of replacing reapers, though a new faction of reaper legends is a cool one, make it so emissary only increases from PvP - that way all players have to get involved at some point, even if they have other loot, so that loot would increase in value the more PvP was entered

    If something like a "Flamehearts haven" came out it would be great with a secondary sea which awards you skulls per crew sunk, the grade of the skulls would be dependant on the player's k/d and crewsize would determine amount of cause. The reason arena wasn't played is because it had no incentive, so give it some.

    My problem is whenever I play Reapers, I never find ANY emissaries because they all just server-hop when a Reaper shows up on the map. So I have nothing to do BUT just grind PVE objectives.

    I think the reaper legend thing is a good idea. Maybe they could have voyages that make you do pvp involved things. Kinda like Athena voyages, but for reaper and you have to go through more pvp to get bigger rewards.

    I always thought, rather than a constant update on reaper location, it should be every minute/5 minutes as a "last seen here" so its harder to run from reapers, but also harder for reapers to track moving prey.

    Ships aren't ever entitled to fight you. Just because you want to satisfy your own yearn for pvp doesn't mean it's in the interest of other ships. Unfortunately arena mode was discontinued for those seeking battle.

    The title of this video couldn't be more true. An expansion would be great in my opinion. It would give people who are max lvl something to work for and gives new players the anxiety of being in a world where pvp is always present. Much like the game at launch where people assumed other ships weren't friendly. Amazing video as always!

    I mean there are many ways to make reapers the "PVP" faction again (which is what they are). 1. it could simply be to make all other factions accept everything, everything. The catch is that non-faction specific items earn you no experience or reduced gold, however still affected by emissary effects(i mean the gold hoarders probably would want a golden skull right?). Now what would reaper specific items be then? tomes of resurrection, reaper chests and any items that have been held by a non crew-mate pirate. 2. You can only gain reaper emissary value and rank up in emissary rank by stealing, killing, robbing and fighting other players, currently you can gain emissary rank by simply putting any treasure aboard your ship, but this new change means that world event items that haven't been interacted by other players give "reduced" or not as much money as it would were it actual ill gotten gains. This forces people to seek out other players to rank up, otherwise you don't get extra money, and it means that anything they have will be faction specific items because you stole it from them. 3. I also think that emissary level 1 reapers shouldn't show on map either, because if the change i mentioned before are taken in to account, then world events are going to be a lot more dangerous since reapers are going to want to level up their emissary rank. However if you can see them at level 1 then you are easily able to see them coming from anywhere, i think that reapers should have a slight element of surprise, just to keep non-reaper crews on their toes a bit more. Now this would probably make world events a living hell right? since you have to both the bosses and reapers right? well since the catch is it has to be held by a non crew-mate pirate(for it to give its full value if sold to the reapers), it would be better to wait for them to finish the world event or voyage, and then steal their loot.

    The besT way to make seekers fight is to make it so other emissarys can sell deeper emissary flags for a large payout. That way feelers are hunted instead of avoided

    I think the biggest issue is how not a lot of people are good at PvP either because no skill, bad Internet, or other things. Plus there’s the fact that people do have trouble finding other players to fight, I know I’ve been having trouble as my friend and I have been wanting to do a Fort of the Damned only to find no other players.

    My Main Problem when playing reaper: Almost noone actually has loot. A few meager skulls here. A bunch of seafarers chests here. But never as much as i Stock up when under an emissary flag. Its very hard to get an actually good Catch as a reaper, even if you are devent at pvp. Just because noone has any loot.

    Well a safe guess would be that people sell more often than carry in bulk simply because reapers are on the hunt. I'm certainly guilty of this so it wouldn't surprise me if this was the case that leaves little to no loot on your hunts.

    If you're doing PvE and know a reaper's on the server, who in their right minds would hoard loot on their ships instead of offloading it as quickly as possible for every haul? The time investment is vastly skewed in favour of the pvp players, who can just sail up to a pve player, wreck their shit in minutes at most, steal all their stuff and make a massive profit off what might have taken the PvE player almost an hour. Now multiply this by however many ships pvp players sink over time, and you've got the major issue of that one pvp crew can, in the space of a day, easily steal loot from pve players equating to over a week of total playtime. To put it simply, PvP in Sea of Thieves is parasitic to pve, it does not add anything to pve, it only takes, takes, takes.

    One thought I had is this. You can gain emissary experience by touching loot, getting loot on your ship, etc. like normal. BUT you also have to sink another one player ship per reaper emissary rank. So the only way to make reapers worth it is to engage in pvp

    My friends and I talked about this and we think their should be a faction that is reworded for hunting reapers and other ships that have sunk players on the server. Like a bounty system the more pvp battles you win the higher your bounty. When you sink via another player ship that bounty refreshes. I think this should be implemented with ship naming so that when you look on a roster for a bounty you get a ship like "the space fish" and then their bounty worth. You would need to have an emissary up to collect these bounties of course. It might help encourage pvp as a result because that emissary would be worth a lot to a reaper and the ship may be holding some flags of other ships. Also it would give you something else to have in your map bundle possibly. If anyone wishes to expand on this let me know your thoughts.

    I'm a hard reaper. If you're a soft reaper, and you get mad about getting attacked, I will have my fun in that session by making sure you don't have any fun at all. :) I've met all of my friends in this game, ironically, by shooting at them. The best people in this game are content with the risk and not too frazzled by loss. Also, the change they already made to basically neuter any rep gain from non-stolen loot was a very good move. Perhaps they could buff the gold gained from stolen loot by a much greater margin as well. Or better yet, make all the other factions get a bigger buff to their gold so it's less likely they'll lower flags when a reaper comes around.

    As someone who is not opposed to pvp....and has gone out of my way to go fight a reaper but still have not reached pirate legends I think the main problem is people trying to reach pirate legend which makes the reaper one of the go to faction since it is quick to grind up.Thus by going for pirate legend with this faction you want to avaoid pvp fight once you got a fair bit of loot so you can sell and level up the faction quickly.

    I think having a slight SBMM system would allow for newer players to have a little bit of leeway to get the hang of things without having their 4-5 hours of loot gathering stolen by sweat lords in 15 seconds

    Good points in this video. I'd also argue, that the ships need rebalancing. Make it so that the bigger the ship, the slower it is. This way a solo slooper could always just run away from the dreaded server hopper reaper brig which has more firepower as well as man power. Either implement a way for people to run away if they want or give us a pvp/pve mode toggle option if you just want to enjoy your trade or gold runs while watching a show.

    Me and my mates spent like 45 minuets chasing a gold hoarder emissary down, not like it was in spite. Me and my crew want to improve and we find being the agressor makes ships fight harder if they want to fight. It's likely because they were a sloop and we aren't exactly expirenced but at some point running is just a loss, we stayed on them for the expirence but like don't be suprised if someone chases you down as a reaper or vice versa.

    It's crazy you posted this today, my crew was just talking about how Reaper 5 is broken. We were doing like our third merchant em for the day and here comes a reaper 5 and this dude was so good i literally thought it was summit1g, he even looked like him. After a hard fight, we realized he never took anything of ours, he didnt even take our flag. He just showed up and gave us grief and then went I guess looking for someone else. We had maybe A chest and A gem, we wouldnt have been so salty if he would have taken our treasure. What makes this problematic is if Reaper5's couldnt see emissaries, we may have never crossed paths. They shouldn't be able to have all the advantage in the game.

    I have made it a sort of self rule to only run the reapers if I am 100% down for a fight, If Im flying any other emissary odds are I am going to run, and only the the fight if I know for certain I can win.

    What if they did something like all loot turned in can give reaper rep up to say, 50, but if you want to get it to max, after that only stolen loot awards any rep. That could do a good job explaining what the factions all about and forcing PvP to level it.

    My buddy and I rolled up on a reaper at a WE yesterday. We sank them easily and they were upset. "Why do people always attack us, were just trying to enjoy the game." We ended up inviting them to an xbox party and explaining that raising reapers not only lets people know you're looking for a fight but also lets EVERYONE know where you are. They told us "That's dumb, why would they make the best money maker toxic like that?"

    i have 400 hours in the game out of which 200 is reapers and 100 is athena both are under heavy targeting from reapers (also whenever FOF spawned i was there as Athena) i also have the mental attitude of "never escape from a fight that you can win" meaning if I'm athena sloop i will fight, i will try the enemy skills and if they are too much for me and my friend, we will retreat and rethink, but we never back down from first encounter against anything but galleons also my 200 hours of reaping was definitely 200 hours of reaping, yes i did world events. but that was to lvl up mostly majority of the time i spent time chasing after fleeing ships and such

    I find it kinda funny that a lot of pvpers bitch about alliances. I don't get the hate to be honest. It's a feature in the game that people can choose to use. If you can double gun and use the excuse "well it's in the game for us to use" then the same applies to alliances. But for real why the hate? I legit had some reapers come and chase me and my crew only to bitch about the alliance we were in after we sunk them and I just don't get it. It's not like earning "easy gold" via alliances has any effect on player power or anything, since literally everything in the game is cosmetic. Now if say the Dark Adventurers weapons dealt more damage then ok, I could see the issue there. But to the point of the video, honestly I agree to a degree that there does need to be more incentive to go and I'm not gonna pretend like I have the answer for how to do this. I do like the idea of awarding silver to everyone who participates in some kind of pvp. I think it was Falcore that came up with the idea to award like 2-3 silver to the losing crew who participates in pvp and give like 10-15 silver to the crew who sinks other ships, which could be increased with an emissary multiplier. That way at least everyone going in to pvp will get *something* for the effort and it incentivises more people to fight, since they'll get something win or lose.

    To fix pvp in this game, you need to be able to sell loot faster, it is as simple as that. There should be an in-shop menu option at each of the outposts to just sell all of your loot of that applicable company at once, instantly. This would make it to where you need ACTUAL skills (not luck or the element of surprise) to be able to gain loot from pvp, while not making pvp anytime a non-option.

    Here is what we need, more people per server. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve said “is this server dead?” It’s a big map, and yes there’s distance to cover, but for reapers it’s worse because their location is broadcasted across the whole map. So people log off or run, now instead of the current amount, up the player count per server to 15-20 players. More ships, more ships fully crewed, more pvp potential encounters. Boom

    It needs to expand a deep breathtaking stories,maps,castles or hideouts,more rituals,more items to equip and one more last thing....what if,Flameheart be an emissary? And only unites with reapers? What if game publishers and designers add more islands for Flameheart quests?

    I don’t think they should only be able to sell stolen loot. But what they could do is a system where any normal loot is worth, say 25% less. As it’s accepting from all factions. BUT stolen loot will be worth 25% more than normal

    While occasionally I’ll grind merchant or gold hoarders, I mostly run reapers looking to fight. Like you mention, the problem is that instead of fighting and sinking ships, you wind up doing world events until you hit level 5, and at that point, most of not all of the emissaries have server hopped out of fear. Another issue that I run into constantly is sinking a ship just for there to be zero loot. Annoys the piss out of me

    Yeah I was confused by this as well. I started playing the game recently and I was SUPER afraid of reapers because I thought they would actively hunt me to death for my loot... turns out most reapers just PvE and only get on your case if you stray too close to them (becoming easy pickings (cost/time efficient)). I thought they could indeed only level through stolen cargo and sunken ships. I even flagged reaper myself and was super disappointed when I didn't get rep for sinking a player ship. I get the flag mechanic but some players don't flag or panic-deflag when a reaper is around, which just sucks for reapers.

    I'm relatively new and don't really want to do reapers as a PvE faction because it just feels like Gold Hoarders plus. I think the best way to change it would be to reduce the amount of gold and reputation you get from items that haven't been stolen from another player while simultaneously increasing its amount if it was stolen. For example, a chest of legends is 4300-7000. Lets say that if you've found this on a mission and sell it to reapers you only get the lowest value of 4300 so its not worth less then it should be necessarily it just guarantees the lower value. Where as, if you've stolen in, you get lets say 7000-10000 for it instead or maybe just the maximum value of 7000. The reputation gained should also be changed in a similar manor, not sure how that's calculated right now but I think it should just be a flat half if its not stolen and doubled if it is. As someone who is working on getting PL I really don't see the issue in changing the faction to make it encourage PvP. The argument of saying it makes the grind unfair for new players is invalidated by all the complaints in the community that its too easy to get PL anyway. And the main reason its too easy is because of the reaper faction in the first place. Maybe reset everyones reaper reputation as well. That way PL's who have 50 3 factions other than reaper will keep it and everyone else will have to re-earn it although this might be too harsh.

    My only problem with PVP in this game, is the respawning mechanic. If it was up to me you'd respawn on a nearby island, not the ship. Making PVP riskier would help, that or if a ship is sunk when you die you appear on a different server. That is just me. The respawn and keep hopping on the enemy ship over and over feels "cheap" to me, but I think I may be alone in this.

    I think increasing log book values would dramatically increase hard reapers because right now sinking ships is never more profitable than world events, there should also be a foil to reapers like athena hunter sub faction that just attacks reapers

    Reapers should give a "reapers run of wanderers refuge" or "reapers run of shipwreck bay" voyage after hitting grade 5 the voyage would have 20 or 30 x marks. The loot would only be top tier and will benefit gold hoarder, order of souls, and merchant. This way the emissaries can group up and give the reapers a great fight or one ship can destroy everyone and take it all.

    I think the gold reward fine, since its high risk high reward, and you have to win against other players. Mabye nerf emissary value on items that arent stolen? Adding som sort of battle currency? (And mabye make sea dog stuff possible to purchase with it) +20, +50, +125, +175, +250 for sinking emissaries grade 1-5. +100 static bonus if its a reaper? +10 for killing a player you havent killed before.(more points would encourage too much targeting non emissaries) +10 lowering grade 2 +25 lowering grade 3 +50 lowering grade 4 +75 lowering grade 5 (More points would encourage lowering too fast if chased, running shouldnt be profitable with reapers) The currency should only be rewarded when the reaper emissary flag is raised except for the +100 you get for sinking a reapers emissary.

    The problem with a faction that only takes stolen loot is what if you get into a server with no other ships or ships that just run away from you for an hour, I agree reapers needs to focus a little bit more on pvp but it’d be hard to integrate features like this without making it become like hunters call. A faction with no player base.

    To be honest just lower reaper max emissary multiplier to +100% so it isn't so easy money anymore

    I thought it was already only 1.25, so less than that even. The heck do the other factions get? I say buff the other factions instead. Make it more lucrative to keep your flag up in the face of danger, so I have more targets, and to make up for the fact that only one type of loot gets the bonus.

    @@SpadesNeil yes sorry i for some reason i thought it gave 250% bonus, it gives a 150% bonus for all emissaries after a quick google. I think reapers should only give 100% bonus though or less

    I especially think that they should make it where you only get grade 5 reapers for stolen loot but you still are able to sell every piece of loot but are rewarded for stealing
