The REAL Story of the Desert in Ish's 1,000 Player Civilization

Комедия

Edit: I've seen some comments talking a lil smack towards Ish because of how he handled the plot. I would like to request that you do NOT do that. When Ish and other creators make content like this, they have the VERY difficult task of balancing making good content while also making the event itself enjoyable for the people playing in it. Ish did NOT force us to fight in the war with Aculon. In fact, he was very much willing to allow the war with Theria to happen, as long as Theria agreed which they didn't. It took even MORE convincing just to have them show up at the war in Aculon at all. Ish did his best to balance the desires of 2 drastically opposed nations, as well as produce a quality video (which he did!). Ish quite literally did all that he could, especially since for him to fully explain the actual desert plot, he would have to include WAY too many Discord texts and calls like I did in my video, haha! So please don't send any hate his way. We stan Ish!
For clicks, the title is the way that it is. But in reality, this is very much from the Smaragdus Emirate's perspective, lol.
After seeing our story line got changed up a decent bit in Ish's video, I felt compelled to shine a light on the TRUTH of what happened in the desert. Those Therians weren't as innocent as they were portrayed! (Shout out to Saparata for being a good sport and giving me those fantastic voice lines though!).

Hi everyone! I'm seeing a lot of people confused about a few things regarding my involvement in the plot of this event. I don't want anyone to walk away with an inaccurate impression, so let me tell you EXACTLY what happened to the desert plot: The reason I interfered in the desert war was NOT because it would be "too confusing" or "wouldn't be good for the story." In fact under normal circumstances, I would be VERY WILLING to let the war happen, as it would allow the desert militias (Emirate/Imamate) to get revenge against Theria, which would've been EPIC for plot development. The reason I had to interfere in THIS case was because the 1000 Player Civilization event was about to come to an end. If the desert war happened, there wouldn't be room to feature it in the video, and the desert storyline would've gone unresolved. It's as simple as that. I had decided to end the entire event with the Battle of Aculon because it was the largest conflict in the event, and I end all of my videos on a big climax. As soon as I saw that the Battle of Aculon was about to happen, I decided Day 10 would be the final day. The negative consequences of my decision to set the Aculon battle as the last event of the video is that a ton of smaller story lines, including the desert post-Sultan plotline, had to be stopped prematurely. No matter where I stopped the event, SOMEBODY'S storyline would be cut-off, and in this case it happened to be the desert-which is unfortunate, but it had to be done. Still, I spent many hours talking with desert leaders, going back and forth to discuss potential ways to still include them in the story, and eventually we reached a compromise. Theria would join the Allies, given their previous agreements with Plains, and the Imamate/Emirate nations would join Aculon, so they can complete their revenge arc against Theria. Nobody was completely satisfied, but it was the best compromise we could get, given the constraints. I'm really sympathetic to many desert peoples' grievances that they weren't able to complete their storyline in a natural manner. It sucks, and I fully understand why some of them were upset. But sometimes, these things have to happen in events of this magnitude. For the vast majority of the event, players and nations were free to do basically whatever they wanted-it was only toward the end when I had to reign in the chaos and ensure that we reached some sort of sound conclusion. EJK made a really funny and well produced video, but it also oversimplified why I got involved in the desert plot toward the end, and as a result, many people are walking away with the impression that my video was entirely staged and scripted. I hope that my explanation here clears things up. If you want more details about how I ran the event and made my video (including which parts were indeed real/reshot), I did a 3-hour live stream on my "ish 2" channel talking about the plot and explaining ALL of my decisions regarding this event. That all said, I wanna give a HUGE shoutout to EJK for providing a really great player perspective of a desert member. As EJK admits, it is a little biased toward the Emirate and Sultanate, but it still offers a bevy of extra information that I couldn't include in my video, and it proved that Theria weren't necessarily the "good guys" that they appeared to be in my video. Really good stuff - please show EJK some love!!

Considering that Ish makes a note of saying that the sides weren't as clear cut as they "seemed" at the end of his video, it's a shame that this perspective was completely ignored. It would probably have been better if Ish broke things up into something like three 45-minute episodes so he could give more time to the nuance and complexity this world had, but then again, this is a great example of history being written by the victors

And this is why we should never see someone/some group as inherently good or bad. People do good abd bad things, and groups are the same. Here we have a great example: yeah, the sultan was extremely authoritary and maybe too agressive, but he tried to make the desert a place with more justice and he helped a small nation who got fucked by a thieve that wouldve gone unpunished otherwise, he was stubborn about going to the wedding because he thought that this was important to those people (who, btw, were part of a small nation, he didnt need to do them anything. But he did). And for the other side this is also true. Yes, they ended tirany and tried to bring some piece for the desert, but (at least in the early days) they protected a criminal, fucking over a small country for no reason, and gave asylum to 2 traitors until the very end, even tho they knew that the other desert countries wanted them dead, at the pint of going to war just for that alone, and they were now 100% pacifists, so that wouldve been the best way to mantain the peace. (And we still have the no mercy thing at the end)

@@EJK9000 I guess I'll write my full account for the sake of documenting for anyone reading this. I also fled immediately after the assasination due to the heavy uncertainty but I still came back after a short period. This probably ended up being a wise move not for the reason I thought it would (being hunted by Theria/Zombta) but because one of our former members (a squeaker) went on a PvP killing spree in our territory close to where I was, citing his reason as being jealous of the amount of kills other people were getting. (He was ofc later removed from the event for that). Anyway my reasoning for not taking the title of Sultan as third in command was that I felt the whole Sultanate name had enough stigma around it and conjured too much soy rage by those who misunderstood or didn’t like us, and taking that helm would put a persistent target on my back which would probably undermine the stability of the nation and therefore any of our building goals. Zombta's own stated reason for killing the Sultan was that with the Sultanate as the most powerful nation the whole island felt uneased because we always hunted down anyone who plotted against us, so no Sultan = no opposition to the Sultan = no Sultan assasination attempts = peace in the desert. I guess if I remained Sultan that percieved tension would still be there. Of course this is all still cowardice because when I fled, I didn’t know if I would come back. (I went to Aculon, which I dont remember much of due to lagging incomprehensibly, but I had also planned to visit other nations like Seth's in the jungle). So i dont consider Zaanga's backing out as any better than mine. What would drive me to return was the conviction of Weedy and the Imamate (the "die hards" I reffered to in the announcement you showed in the video), which succeeded for our building + revenge goals in the end.

The biggest revelation, that in retrospect isn't all that surprising, that undercuts Ish's retelling of the story is learning how much he actively intervened in the events as they played out. Preventing the Emirate kidnapping plot to prevent the overall plot from "getting confusing" might be the biggest example - because based on the timeline, HAD YOU SUCCEEDED, Theria would either be split or unable to attend the battle at Aculon due to being preoccupied, which would make for an interesting point of order and be more accurate to war (best case scenario for Theria would be defeating the Emirate quickly and getting to the final battle with reduced numbers and strength, OR having the alliance help them rescue their leader first, or any number of things that would likely happen and still wouldn't confuse the plot). It's a shame, it kind of ruins the magic of the story for me. Similarly, I think the fifth island should've been there from the start. And I also somewhat disagree, though in this case I can see the argument for, "resurrecting" the murdered player, but given it violated the server rules I have far less of an issue with that decision (I would've preferred a 'reroll' on a different island myself, so the impact is still felt but the player is allowed to keep playing). EDIT: I also consider the possibility that Ish was against the kidnapping plot because it would've drawn things out, and he felt with this Aculon battle he would have more than enough material to make his video and find a natural stopping point. Which is far more understandable than the "confuses the plot" reason given in the video above, though I do still disagree with it.

@@DALKurumiTokisaki No no, I get that, I can even understand and respect it. That was part of the 'drawn out' bit under the edit - another front would draw an already long video out even more, when part of the point here was to make content. And as the video description points out, Ish was willing to let that happen if both sides agreed to it. And I don't want to seem overly critical, because I loved Ish's final product, it was utterly captivating. My issue is primarily that I believe it would've been MORE interesting, and likely more fun, to allow things to progress more organically. I would've preferred to see the plots play out rather than get subdued, wouldn't you? I mean, look at it this way: Theria's leader is taken captive, and at the same time their inter-island alliance is calling for war against the snow empire of Aculon. Do they ignore the call and try to free their leader, or do they respect the summons with the proviso that the alliance must then help free their leader before (or even AFTER) the battle? Hell, if the alliance agreed to help Theria only after Aculon was defeated, that would give the Emirate a vested interest in ensuring Aculon came out on top, rather than being clumsily forced to fight in a war they had no real stake in. It just seems...I don't know, a little TOO editorialized after you peak behind the curtain.

When Ish said in the video that "the people of Theria were innocent [and didn't know about Saps' collusion in the assassination event]" I was laughing my ass off, because nearly every Therian shown onscreen at that moment had been made aware of it- even if people didn't know what was going on, we were told to prepare more bread for potential refugees and make sure we had enough spare iron and diamond armor to go around if necessary. This event was really fun and I'd definitely play it the same way in another Ish video.

When the dust, the fog and the smoke of war or battle finally settles and your high dulls down and fatigue seeps into your bones, you are able to look around with a new set of eyes. You look for the comrades that were with you from the very start. You quickly remind yourself, again, that many did not make it to the second battle, and that some were lost in the third, the fourth, and the fifth. More than half had not make it to the start of this last final fight. You shake your head a little, again, and look for your comrades that were smiling next you what feels like only moments ago. They are dead. You are alive. No one else. Why?

I'm working on writing an in depth npc for my dnd campaign about essentially a super soldier assassin who lost everyone and everything fighting in a war he wanted no part in. An npc who can be found in hiding after he defected to far lands, now living the simple life of the town drunk. Disgraced ronin vibes, who has nothing left to live for, a once great warrior with a secret past. Seeing a similar story (in the lost everyone sense) vocalized and play out has been great inspiration as I have been having a hard time making him feel real enough to immerse into the party as a long term npc. Thanks for the motivation and awesome story :) That last bit, "I didn't know how great the losses really were, not until I got back home. Because I was the only one to make it home." That gut punch right there. You can feel it as an onlooker to the story and that is what I have been missing. That deep seeded, relatable emotion. Knowledge that there was death in the war you wanted no part in only to realize the full implications of the outcome once you returned to an empty fortress. The loss of motivation and the sorrow and despair that follow that emptiness. Loss not only caused by the enemy but by confusion among allies. A fight for nothing where everything hung in the balance and you lost it all, the people you built your life with (I know it's just minecraft), redefining what actually matters to you. I needed to feel this as a viewer to understand the shape I wanted my npc to take, so thank you. In a way, your story will be immortalized in the history books of the lore of our campaign.

The ending battle in this video feels more nuanced and dramatic compared to, what some are saying, the Marvel ending of Ish's video. Almost like some of the Dark Souls lore, the struggle shown here reads more like a tragic grasp at any sort of justice or 'good' in a muddied conflict. The final skirmish against Zom and Dav set to the backdrop of a crumbling stronghold in a war that neither side had any stake in is so , I guess, realistic and compelling. Thanks for making this piece.

Looking at it through that lens, I feel that it skirts the edges of character assassination. But that's just my opinion, so anyone reading this please feel free to disagree with me.

I do get it, it's probably much more satisfying for everyone involved to have a massive war arc, but I recalled being really interested in how the Sultanate and other nations would play out, though I guess having history as the victors wrote it make as much sense as our version of history. Very interesting non the less! If nothing else, it shows how even among the Sand folk factions there was a lot of complexity within the faction; in particular the assassination of the sultan was peak history!
