The Real Reason You Don't Hear From Emeril Lagasse Anymore

Ойын-сауық

There was a time when celebrity chef Emeril Lagasse was everywhere on the Food Network. He shot to fame with the long-running Emeril Live, which ran for over a decade and made him one of the most popular television personalities on the Food Network.
Lagasse was also a judge on Bravo’s popular Top Chef, and he even contributed his voice acting skills to the Disney movie The Princess and the Frog, where he played Marlon the Gator.
However, in the blink of an eye, the popular celebrity chef seemed to disappear from the public eye. Here is the real reason you don’t hear from Emeril Lagasse anymore.

January 2018....A television producer for one of Emeril Lagasse's cooking shows is fighting a subpoena to turn over financial records to the Florida House of Representatives. Lawmakers are asking for years of records detailing how the show "Emeril's Florida" spent millions of dollars it received from the state's tourism agency. The legislators want to know how much Lagasse was paid. The Florida House of representatives demanded last week that producer Pat Roberts and his company turn over records by Tuesday or risk hefty fines and even jail. Roberts has sued in federal court to block release of the records. Lawyers for Roberts contend he could be sued if the information is revealed. Visit Florida paid at least $10 million over a five-year period for the show. The show aired on The Cooking Channel.

I don't mind competitions that are straightforward, where it's just chefs making their best thing and comparing them, maybe with a theme. Like who makes the best Texas style chili, or which pastry chef makes the most elegant wedding cake or whatever. The ones that are filled with stunts, backstabbing and petty personality clashes can go though.

I'm very glad that Emeril is clearly doing well. His work passing on his love for food, service and drink, is bound to reap dividends for those who have been helped by the foundation he runs. Emeril is a kind and generous person, who when Katrina devastated New Orleans, set about to find the people who were kitchen staff, wait staff and those who worked in ancillary positions for the food service industry. He then went about helping those people and their families to regain their footing and get back to the restaurants they worked in, some of them all their lives. That's the kind of person, Emeril is, one who'll help you to get back on your feet and working so that you don't lose but win in the game of life. He's been a blessing to all the people of NO who wanted to come back, they were the backbone of the food service industry in a city known for wonderful, exquisite, and amazing food.

Totally respect and agree with his feelings about what food TV has become. I miss shows that taught you how to cook. How to create. How to enjoy food. He is faithful to his craft. I appreciate that. Emeril, Tyler Florence, Ina Garten, Lydia Bastianich, Mario Batali, Michael Chiarello, they TAUGHT, inspired, we're creative. Everything now is focused not on food but who is better, greater, the BEST. The food is a paltry second player. Same with HDTV and the older shows that TAUGHT how to use color, spaces, metals, woods, paint, fabrics. How to restore homes. Refurbish. Now, all childish competition shows. Whatever happened to the love of learning? Of creating?

He was definitely one of the reasons why I have become a baker and aspiring cook. I loved watching Emeril Live with my father as it is one of those kind of shows where he integrated the love of food, music and passion. Food Network's push towards competition shows unfortunately was such a bad move that I tend to go to KZread, PBS for cooking lessons and inspiration. Emeril Live was just so fun and we need more shows like that. God Bless Emeril for sticking to his convictions!

I ran into Emeril in Panama City at the Winn Dixie grocery store. Just the night before I had prepared his pistachio encrusted snapper. I recognized him and mentioned that I watched his show and I had fixed one of his recipes the night before. He asked which one.......uh, duh....I was able to maintain myself and tell him. He is the nicest person ever. A real stand up guy! Love him! Anne

Competition cooking shows suck. I loved The Essence of Emeril. His departure from the Food Channel was around when I stopped watching. The Food Channel should get back to the basics; cooking show where, you know, they teach cooking.

He was a show man, my favorite ever!!!

Owning an ad agency we attended an "Emeril Live" show back in Jan 2007 as a guests of one of the media cable companies...the show was called "Winter in New England" and was served the meal sitting up front...lots of fun and excitement... so was Emeril.

If anybody from food network is listening, this is the reason I stopped watching. Reality shows are crap. I want to learn technique and procedure not place some schmo in a situation to watch them fall on their face and laugh. Worst cooks is a prime example.

I am very proud to say, that I was a student, and Emeril, was my teacher. I was the TV student, and he was my TV teacher. Teaching me how make good food, into great food, beautiful food, favorable food. BAM!! Emeril taught me how to buy the delicious seasoning's, and have respect for the flavors, style, and the love of cooking. BAM!!!! I will always have " MAD" RESPECT for him. Emeril also taught me how to use different tools, which type of cookware too have in the home. BAM!! Thanks Emeril for being a one of a kind teacher. I've learned a lot. May you continue too be a bad ass, chef with love, and passion, for the love of cooking. God bless you.
