@@jaym2112 It makes him sound ridiculous, I agree. Like he thinks he is everyone's mentor and has none but in reality he would not be where he is at and for all his mentors he didn't mention, they should have never wasted their time on him. Cuban was hungry so he prevailed but his arrogance about it makes me respect him less for his lack of humility in spite of whatever anyone thinks he means. If Warren Buffet could say he had a mentor, Cuban sounds stupid saying he had none (everyone does) whether they acknowledge it or not. I'm a mentor to some in my field and they are my mentor in another field. That isn't to hard to admit and can even go as far as saying I have had younger mentors than me.

A mentor is just someone with more experience, with whom you get along, and can help you avoid the mistakes others have made. They can also act as a sounding board and motivation. Mark Cuban may not have had an official mentor, but he's had parents, friends, business partners, advisors, investors - people who gave him advice on how to succeed.

If you only ever lead the way and you start to become successful then you will eventually hit a wall; all success experiences this. If you haven’t hit wall yet then you aren’t as successful as you could be. When you hit this wall it’s helpful to have someone you can reach out to that you trust and can ask questions to overcome the problem.

My takeaway is that there's nothing wrong with mentorship. It's just not something Mark subscribes to given his personality. It's like different routes to the same goal. Mentor is everyone who responds those questions you didn't know you have to ask or might inspire you to do something you wouldn't plan on your own. It depends on the type of person and history you have. I am going to say on a whim that people with mentors start before or around their early 20s before too much unavoidable tragedy hits their life or before they have too many failures. Maybe not always the case but someone I look up to had a mentor since around 19 I believe and if I started that early maybe I wouldnt have struggled so much with motivation. Some people see success before they have a mentor and that gives them more potential to succeed with a mentor when they start with one because they have had some success and have drive. The biggest question few people answer is how to start if you have never really succeeded and you dropped out of college and you dont particularly like any whole skillset meaning you dont like doing any mainstream online or alternative business as a sole party. I'm an artist who doesnt like marketing though I know how to do everything. And I've havent followed through many things in life. Thus I'm still trying to overcome these hurtles. Who can help people who have constantly failed to follow through in their life thus far?

He's all about never giving up which is often tempting to do on your toughest journey which is becoming financially free. Also you have to understand why you want to torture yourself to do it. If it's just for money you likely won't succeed and will be destroyed as a selfish person with no target. You have to be guarded but compassionate and have passion for your industry. Study all those in your field. The winners and the losers. Learn from them and dominate your industry with new ideas, long days, hard work. Whatever it takes. And pay it forward as you go. Success is your duty. And remember you can't help your family or anyone else in the world if you can't even help yourself. Grind!!!!

Mentorship isn't for everyone, especially if you have a huge ego that you are not willing to give up or if you are looking for a cheat sheet. I've been hustling all my life, building businesses, and diving into different industries from restaurants, golf tech to health tech... I never thought I needed a mentor because I always tried to figure it out on my own and learn from everyone I could. A few years ago, I encountered a mentor who's shared very similar views and I felt that he's built his business in better ways than I could ever imagine. I used to have a huge ego but I knew that may be the pivotal point to take a step back to listen and observe for once. So I decided to take a pause on my entrepreneurship endeavor and joined his team. It's been quite a deep roller coaster ride so far, breaking through my old self for new growth...it's not easy but that makes it even more of a rewarding experience. I do not have the same answers as my mentor does, but I can understand and respect them. I have a new set of answers of my own... and this whole experience allowed me to open my mind to find them. My own, customized answers that makes sense for me. Mentorship isn't about seeking for answers. It's about your ability and willingness to embrace a new way of looking at things through the mind of someone who's already been there.

Dear everyone in the comment section going 'yeah, he's just saying this because.....'. Look for all the cockiness, the guy took good advice. He just chose not to FOLLOW a person because of that advice. That's why he doesn't believe in an all guiding mentor. He obviously learnt skills from others. But that doesn't make the other person a mentor. A mentor is that ONE person you lean on every time you're stuck. But like he said, in tech, even the people who invent things don't know what it may be used for or valued like by society. So it's every man for himself.

Mentorship is how human have always learned. You learn from someone who is experienced. Self-made person is only there due to the opportunities and ties the person have and of his/her value. The moment those people around stop valuing you or choose not to value you. You no longer have the power. There is no real *self-made*,it is an arrogance.

there are plenty of examples where people are self-made/taught e.g. elon musk's first company zip 2 was able to be made because elon self taught how to code which means no one was specifically teaching him how to code he possibly read books etc but that still means he is self-taught. Knowledge is free especially nowadays saying that no one is self-taught is just ignorant to the possibilities in current society. Doesn't mean he is completely self taught but that first company which made him millions he was indeed self-taught those abilities

Getting where you are to where you want to be in the shortest amount of time. The key is the mentor isn't a friend or family member giving you advice all the while having done nothing to improve their own life, but people who have actually become successful in the endeavors

I see what you mean. But you also must consider the 'systematic' realities that create the confounds of these theories and ideas. We think a certain way because life as we know it has been conditioned to be a certain way. So the definition of success, etc.. is defined within those parameters. Outside of that, it could all be different. So for example, there are people who live in the ghettos in different parts of the world. Yes. Individuals have the power to can change their mindsets. But if at the end of the day that mindset conflicts with your environmental demands, say like sell drugs, join a gang, etc., then that mindset of achieving success could get you killed and endanger other lives. So these thought patterns are not black and white and must be viewed in conjunction to the social, economic, political, racial, environmental, and other realities that have been created in our world.
