Developer here, Games in their BETA or ALPHA tend to use old game animations, graphics, mechanics etc. to improve its next Game. This is why GTA 6 looks like GTA 5. Whilst GTA 6 is still in development they will also tend to use noises from old games to then improve the noises. They don't make the noises or 'Sounds' as soon as they enter development. They tend to develop the noises appropriate to the vibe and the games mood.

If a game looks like previous game then it means it will take a lot of time to add and remake the graphics of textures. And ps5 also released just in 2020 so they also can go next generation and new era of gta series (like HD era). So the game still looks the same as gta 5 that means it is alpha stage and little few features are added which can contribute to the alpha testing. So, yeah for me 2.5 or 3 years minimum.

I would like to say that during early development; game devs will use assets from previous games to fill in the blanks until the new ones are created. That's why you were seeing cars from GTA V and similar driving physics, it's all temporary place holder assets. Nearly everything you were seeing apart from the actual environment and characters are placeholder assets. It's a very common practice in game development, whenever GTA V was in early development they used assets from GTA 4 and Max Payne 3. The build showcased in the leaks was too early to really judge anything at all.

Like many people said in the comments, the game we got leaked was in early development so many of the assets were from Gta V. The problem is, and I'm pretty sure is that also what Radal means, is that the game feels to similar to Gta V even regarding the setting. I mean, Gta 4 was set in "New York/ New Jersey", in the year 2008. Gta V in a "Los Angeles" in 2013, so the style of the sorrounding changed a lot. This new Gta seems to be set in a 202X's "Miami", and despite being on the other side of the USA's coast, the sorrounding seems pretty similar. Also for things such as vehicles (that between Gta IV and V were often dissimilar, as 5 years are placed between them) look the same, as in the past years Gta V was often upgraded with more modern cars (and I'm not even talking about all those almost sci-fi military vehicles). So yeah, I hope they will come up with something interesting in order to have a real innovation on these aspects.

The reason why it’s basically a GTA 5 reskin is because of one reason, If a studio has had a game out previously they always use placeholder assets from them games, you can find screenshots of GTA 5 in development and it looks exactly like GTA 5 except all the NPCs, the cars and even the radar are all from GTA 4

Yo Radal, FYI it is normal for game developers to use assets from their previous games. Like for example when gta 5 was in development, a lot of the assets used were from gta 4 and I'm pretty sure we can all tell that they are pretty different on their own ways. Hope that helps

Not just assets, but also the code, particularly when its using the same engine. Its way too early to actually criticize the game and the devs clearly knew that when they announced the leaks.

People need to understand what "Early Development" means, the game looks unfinished because it is, quite literally, unfinished. Still, great video :)

To be fair, that's literally how most game development works. You take the last game and piece by piece replace it with new things.

But still, after almost 10 years from the last GTA game, the fact that the game is this unfinished is pretty worrying.

But that's logic. Those leaks are leaks from developers most likely testing or showcasing something between each other or other departments. Of course next GTA technically will be based on previous one - that's why its looking like this. Models, graphics will be added later, but for now they need to have anything to test for example scripts - that's why we can see a lot of utilized models, cars etc from previous game.

yeah you can see license plates from SA and stuff, it feels like they're doing testing and just figuring out the world and animations. I'm sure the game now is way past this stage since these are from like 12-18 months ago according to version numbers and stuff.

What I'm afraid of and more people should be as well is about the heavy script, will this be another "inconsistently on rails / off rails" game from Rockstar? That's what I hated the most about GTA V and RDR2, you try to approach an objective your own way and the game punishes you for it by saying that you "failed" somehow. NakeyJakey did a fantastic video about it and you've probably already seen it.

When GTA V was on its early development it also looked a lot like GTA IV. Because at the time of the development of a game the developers need a clue or idea that how they are gonna start with their new game and after they arrange everything in order, they change the game into something else. For EG- GTA V used a lot of interiors and models from GTA IV but at the time of release it felt totally different. They have also done this thing with other games like they imported some of gta v vegetation models to rdr 2 but it looks simmilar but lot upgraded

Rockstar used a lot of assets, animations, and code from gta 5 and rdr2 to build on in gta 6 as a sort of base / stand-in. The more they work on it, the more it will be replaced by something original

This is so true. It's literally GTA5.5. The media lies and deception about the playable female character(s) too are absurd and pure lies. Rockstar is grasping hard, but GTA6 will fail. After about a year or two it'll be left in the RDR2 dust. When I first saw the leaks, I immediately said to myself, "WTF? This is literally GTA5 with a graphical update." The game is not going to be the same as previous GTA games. GTA can't be GTA anymore because everybody seems to get offended over anything and everything these days. It's basically become the Grand Tasteless Adventure.

We do. But this isn't a case of "Mad cause Bad Graphics" or "Mad Cause Asset Reuse", GTA 5 reused a handful of assets from Max Payne 3 such as the giant yachts. The main concern is that it doesn't feel like an evolution, like most game sequels should do. Sometimes, to be too familiar is to be tiresome and repeat the mistakes. It feels as if it will have the same bland hand-to-hand combat, terrible gunplay (especially considering 4's gunplay had the amazing physics engine that evolved in Max Payne 3), the RC Car vehicle handling and just generally being a microtransaction laden grating. It's a case of to read between the lines and draw your own personal conclusions. I'm not saying this to be an asshole, I'm clarifying one possible explanation based on my own observations outside of the GTA series. It also could be because I've been spoiled rotten by Sleeping Dogs.

@@HydeFK Maybe I've seen more of the footage than you, but from someone who's played GTA 5 since 2013 I have to disagree. I do hope they get better melee combat, I agree with that, but the gunplay definitely doesn't look exactly like GTA 5's, there's couching, going prone, what appears to be more fluent character movement, and the cops have some AI tweeks such as actually trying to use tiered cover, instead of only having the ability to crouch or stand behind cover. It appears to be on the same engine update as rdr2 which has many improvements, despite people for some reason thinking it looks too similar to gta 5, the way the character moves looks more rdr2 than gta 5 in some ways, the clothing has cloth physics which aren't present or possible in GTA 5, the ability to pick up items using a button iis more rdr2, the ability to have options to talk to NPCs is very rdr2. With all of this if you compare GTA 5 to rdr2 the change in quality is impressive. Even if the quality simply matches rdr2 it will be an amazing improvement in comparison to GTA 5. I really hate what rockstar has done to GTA 5 and rdr2 online, but I still have to acknowledge they make excellent games. Depending on how old this is it's not surprising it looks similar to gta 5 and rdr2 in some ways, when gta 5 was in developement it looked like it was just a map update for gta 4. This looks more like rdr2 animation models, physics, and early graphics. In combination with GTA 5's sounds and vehicles, which seem to be placeholders.

@@Uh0_o Honestly, I was avoiding watching it for the most part because of the fact that I just don't have a lot of hope for it. I appreciate you telling me what was seen by yourself. I'm glad they're implementing or going to implement more RDR mechanics to the game, but as I said and as you and I agree: Better Melee is needed. I also hope they try to put effort in the vehicle physics this time to balance simulator and arcade level handling. I'd love to be able to rip a bike in a circle while holding the rear brake and accelerator down

Radal, when a game is in Early Development they start with what assets they have from their previous game, and work they're way up to improve grahpics, animations, effects etc. So that's why it looks similar to GTA V, but when the game will be 100% complete development, it will look very diffrent to GTA V, there is nothing to be concerned about, it's normal.

If you look at early gta v development footage you’d definitely notice how many assets from gta iv are used, making a new gta game from nothing is next to impossible so developers start by recycling previous assets and build upon them, until they have time to change them in later stages

Euphoria Engine used in GTA5 is there is GTA 6 too. GTA 4 and 5 had different engine so they felt way different, so even if GTA 6 has updated engine for the movement of NPCs and Players it will still be very similar.

hi radal! big fan of the channel. i’m a game developer and i think i can answer your question as to why the leaks look alot like gta 5. it’s because of how early it is in development. the assets for the game, the physics, the animations for gta 6 have not actually been created yet, thats how early in development this game is. what they did in this build was use assets from the previous games while waiting for the new assets and animations to be made. they’re called placeholder assets and its a very common practice in game development!

Alright Radal so based on the information I've gathered, this GTA 6 leaked footage is a mix from 2019-2020 debug test and they're testing some new features or yea debug test on the GTA 5 engine which is on RAGE Engine 7, remind you Red Dead Redemption 2 is on RAGE Engine 8 and GTA 6 will be on RAGE Engine 9 so there's going to be a HUGE improvements. In my opinion the game looks pretty good for a game that is in Early Development but people seem to not understand how an Early Development game look like.

I heard that the footage is 1-5 years old. That’s why some of the footage looked better then others. They probably use old assets just to have something to see and will be upgraded later. But for the most part the games don’t change a whole lot in terms of how they play and feel. It’s really just slightly better graphics and story each time. The biggest difference from the last game to others was the multiplayer. They made it a lot more like an mmo and I expect the multiplayer to be a lot more of a grind and harder to obtain better items. I actually speculate that the multiplayer might be completely free. Gta online recently added a subscription to it to get monthly items and bonuses and I see that more as a free to play mobile. So maybe they are thinking about going that root this time. If it was the online would be even more successful. Similar to war zone. Call of duty’s free to play multiplayer game.

i don't think they are really that bad, the leaks are from about 2018-2019, and the animations from walking, running and shooting are all from rdr2 as a place horder, and the voicelines were probably to test the sound quality in game so they can improve on it in further development

I am afraid that one of the most basic human functions that for reasons not even God knows was removed in GTA 5, which is crouching, being back would be the only selling point of the game. Hopefully the barrel roll and climbing along with it. The addition of proning is interesting. That would make GTA 6 the 1st open world game to have such feature. However, I have a bad feeling about it for Online.

The reason behind why the leaked footage looked like previous GTA, is because thus is how the game development works, and on top of that, the looked footage is from 2019 or something, and early in the development the developers test everything by putting the new Co tent or next Content in to the previous engine or game play mechanism

I appreciate that devs need to reuse assets, engine components, models etc. to conceptualize their eventual final product. I understand that it's the best way to develop something, especially as it is part of an ongoing series of games. They still end up reusing a lot of shit from games I.E.: The yacht model I'm sure came from Max Payne 3, minus a lot of the detailed interior and the scale of it being shrunk somewhat. I do, however, have my own concerns too, Radal. I get what you mean when you say it feels like GTA 5.5, I'd say it feels like a downgrade to GTA IV and even to some extent RDR2. My concerns aren't the (damn gorgeous) protagonist and the deuteragonist or the 'sensitive' approach to the series: It's the developers attitude. Like most games, shit has become far too hyperfocused on the Online and Visual components that it feels like most games are same-ish or just another version of something. As I always say, maybe Sleeping Dogs spoiled me but I always hated the fact that GTA V had a pathetic hand-to-hand system. I also feel like the vehicle handling is disgustingly simple and I hate that I don't have a bit of a risk factor whenever I drive in the game. Here's hoping the devs decide to not just focus on "PRETTY GAME" or "ONLINE CASH COW" but I doubt it, this is R* we're talking about. Fun to them means having the best toys, not enjoying the things you have around you or can have thanks to a community of diehard fans' knowledge and talent (Yes, I speak of modding). Until then, I'll stick to replaying Sleeping Dogs and older games that actually gave a shit about being fun and not grating and frustrating.

Seeing as it was old footage even, the sound effects are likely to be just placeholders that they were testing with at the time. Animations will probably remain the same, and honestly it's fine to me if it has the overall sound feel of GTA 5 to me, because to me I don't really need like ultra 5D HD HQ sound effects (real) and I know Rockstar is gonna make a banger storyline regardless so I'm just gonna wait and see. I'll probably have to buy the Xbox Fridge though to run the game l o l

That was from 2019 and I'm sure it's been massively updated and also polished to look new! I feel like it's going to be as if gta next gen had a baby with red dead redemption 2 and tweaked a little and I personally think it will be fun!!

Well, for starters, devs will obviously use models and mesh from previous games, to use it as a sub for unfinished models/projects, to make the game not feel empty, and later on, they will replace it with the finished models/meshes/prototypes etc.

Only Radal is completely honest, I respect that

i mean, is he tho? of course they're reusing assets from gta 5, because its a placeholder for testing purposes. they will obivously change that later on we weren't supposed to see the footages either so that makes sense. hell even in gta 5's development, it looked like gta 4

Well, it's in development, what do people expect? Plus, most models are most likely placeholders, until all the new models are made.

I used OPERA GX for some months (from summer) and it's great. Sadly i can't know when it shows Radal's new videos :.)

19 hours since the video's posting... Hasn't been taken down. Love that there's literally a text splash just before the intro saying that there's no GTA 6 footage at all :3

The early build was very impressive in a technical level . The police and robbery system has seen a big update , especially that the cops remember which vehicle you enter which is straight out of the Mafia games . I don't know why people say that it looks similar to Gta 5 it's running in the RDR 2 engine , all the Gta 5 assets were used as placeholders and the animations are from RDR 2 . I have to completely disagree with your opinion that it looks similar to Gta 5 , I've never disagreed with your opinions but I have to for this .

Excluding the restaurant robbery footage and some other ones, the leak also had some really nice graphics in certain clips (especially for an alpha or pre-alpha). Like the cityscape you could glimpse from the wip train station. It looked really impressive. The area around Ocean drive / Miami beach was looking stellar already. And it wasn't even fully populated with details yet. Can't wait to see the end result.

If it's in early development, that must mean they hadn't even begun making blocks until at least 2021. That is 8 years. 8 years is a lot, especially for a sequel.

For me personally, the physics and bots AI on GTA 6 development was still in early stage and they're using the GTA Trilogy Remastered graphics on PS4 developers kit, maybe when they finally announce this on the next E3 2023-2024 we'll see the final product..... just maybe

I think you're right on the fact that the feel of the game doesn't feel as new. I think that's because GTA V has been out for so long that now the standards for a game have improved so much that it is very difficult to impress gamers nowadays. Out there there's hundreds if not thousands of mods that noticeably increase the user's experience and rockstar just can't catch up anymore
