I am employed by a small business and am treated very well by the owner and my supervisor. Lots of praise, we are on very friendly terms, and they do nice things for the employees fairly frequently (catered lunches, fully paid for team building events etc), and in return I give them everything I can and go out of my way to do more than what's asked of me. The only singular reason I would ever voluntarily leave this company, and the single biggest reason why anyone would ever leave any company that they are truly treated very well at, is because I am very much under-compensated compared to the current average salary range in my area for my field and experience level, and because I am doing way, way more than should ever be expected from me. People quit and job hop because it is the fastest way to get a raise, because employers do not seem to have realized yet how much inflation has affected their workforce, and how much more they need to expect to have to pay their employees in order to retain them as a result of this. It's not that "nobody wants to work", it's that nobody wants to work for a shitty wage that doesn't scale to the effort they put in and the rapidly increasing cost of their essentials.

You hit the nail on thr head. Everybody is allways the "hero" in their story, if Craig was truly the AMAZING employer he believes himself to be, he wouldnt be going trough this. Employes who truly feel valued dont just walk away like this. Craig didnt get to the top with just a good guy persona, im sure theirs another side to him. That applies to all buisnesses big and small. Is the employee an asset or just a number. For example theres a reason a company like Costco have a high retension rate, even though retail has a high turnover rate.

But German as he got older had enough of the grind and people saying can you do it for $4650 instead of $;5500. So he hung his hat up and I wish him all the best . Good for him. I’d love to see a video with him if he’d agree and ask about his spiritual journey .

Honestly I see what your saying but at the same time in real light of the matter because he didn't say anything personal about what german was going to do. He honestly saw it as an opportunity to do what Craig does for a living and was able to see his self a business opportunity instead of an employee for someone else doing the same thing. It's hard to work work work and then realize if you did the same thing your doing you could make more money doing it for yourself instead of for others. 100% the truth of being a business owner. More risk is more reward.

Smart move on both our parts. I retired way early with friends wondering why i would give up such a high paying job. I had enough to retire but wasn't rich yet could follow my passions of traveling, cycling and racquetball. I lost weight, actually slept all night long and feel SO much better about life and myself. I wake up at 6, make a cup of coffee and read the paper. Best time of the day as I think of so many people having to get ready to go to a crappy job, one that may actually hate. I've never looked back. Chasing that money is great, so you think but the price you pay in so many other ways for the incremental values you think will enrich your life but don't just isn't worth it.

It's early here in Houston but I'm up and heading down to my favorite little restaurant I occasionally go to where I'll have my coffee and read my paper (lol). Driving back home will be when the first wave of people driving to work, rushing around like crazed little ants scurrying to a job they hate. I'm going home to peace and quiet, to drink another cup of coffee and catch up on what's happening in the world on my computer. Oh, around 9:30AM when the traffic has died down, I'll be heading into town to ride 26 miles up and down our bayou bike trials. It's so nice and quiet on the weekdays. I stay off them on the weekends because they're clogged up with work warriors now off. Grocery shopping on a Monday morning, no problem, nice and quiet. You'll learn to hate Saturdays when most are off, clogging the streets. You get so sucked into the system so easily because most are living this way. BTW- I left completely out of debt and in great health which was important for me. Take the leap and you'll never regret it. Quit listening to people who are in the rat trap. Classic case of burnout. When employees are in that state and you are detecting it....that is where your people skills come into play. Never under estimate the power of saying good job, having team building events, and more importantly reducing the workload by hiring an additional person. If you know he likes to do fun stuff, get 1 or two mustangs and let him have at it. Then he can have time to train the new person on the boring stuff as he transitions to eventually running the show in Danville and releasing the demand on you to do other fun stuff that interests you. All the while he should be given every opportunity to have a good work life balance as he works through the burnout. Invest in him as much as you want him to invest in you and you both will win. And employees should be paid a fair market wage for the responsibility you are asking of them. The enough but not too much is nonsensical. Even though pay was not at issue here, it was still an oddly nonsensical view point. As an owner you do need to keep an eye on the market rates of your employees to make sure you are keeping up with the competition that can easily pick off your employees one by one with better pay/benefits. Doesn't take much time. Just read through all the on line job listings in a 50 mile radius to gage the market rates of the work you are asking employees to do.

@Martin I don’t think you should get taken in by that video that Craig posted about German leave it. The whole thing was an act. He was trying to figure out how to save face and look good when his actions lead to German just walking away. But that’s what Craig hast to do he hast to put a spin on everything and he has to always blame somebody else just like the way he blamed German you know all but wait a minute he did blame himself he said that he shot himself in the foot because he paid German too much money. Do you see what I’m saying? This is absolutely laughable, except that it’s not funny, it’s very sad.

Just barely going through the motions and emotions. I have saved enough to get by for a little while. So I am considering taking 6 to 12 months off to unwind and just see where the world leads me and see what options the world leads me to. Also I'm hopefully giving a kidney to my mom so I'll need.time to recover from all that. Good luck to everyone.

That story Craig told us was a pile of hooey. I especially like the part where Craig blamed it all on German… His personality changed… He wasn’t upbeat anymore… He wasn’t enthusiastic anymore… He wasn’t pleasant anymore… In a nutshell it was all Germans fault. That’s kind of like when Craig takes advantage of a customer and the customer fights back have you ever noticed that the customer is always an SOB and Craig is the victim? Well here you go here it is again. It’s all Germans fault and poor Craig is the victim. lol

@@timvirginia6327 i thought that too. in the beginning he said he wasnt going to go into it the reason why German left and then halfway through it was because German didnt want to be there and he lost his passion and desire and just didnt want to work anymore.. when he was talking about the pay and how you cant over pay your employees because their work suffers and they think theyre basically irreplaceable.. he WAS talking about German because if he wasnt then why even bring it up or mention it?? lol the problem is Craig is a narcissist, you can tell he just gives that vibe.. everything is always someone else fault .. Craig says hes a spiritual person but hes seems like a phony person to me honestly.. German probably did leave because he needed to change and get away from the daily grind.. but Craig is so fake that he probably believes his own BS as to the real reason he left..

There's so much to disagree with there. Mainly, "you need to ensure that your employees feel they are replaceable". If you treat people that way, they're going to up and go because it says you don't truly value what they bring to your business. If someone is as important to your business as German clearly was to Flying Wheels, then you should reward them properly and make sure they know that they are valued. Maybe German didn't want the responsibility of running the shop, but clearly the business needs more staff and Craig has reacted too late imo.

German was the slacker? Really? Craig, you’ve got a lot to learn about relationships. Even the most loyal friend, lover or employee will fade away when it is apparent they are subordinate. This explanation why he left is throughly one-sided. Naturally German was not there to speak for himself. Craig’s long winded “lube job” on what German means to him while simultaneously throwing him under the bus was nauseating. I subscribed so I could be making this comment. Frankly, right now I’m just thinking what a “tool” Craig is.
