Twins Fan here…Polanco is that “Glue Guy” every club needs. Great in the clubhouse, seems to get that game changing hit pretty often. His stats are good but he is so so so much more than his stats. The twins only traded him because we have some younger players who need to be in the lineup…if they were not ready to go he never would have been traded

From a distance you could tell he was a glue guy for the Twins. I'm really excited we got him in Seattle. Hopefully the trade helps both teams achieve their goals in 2024.

Topa is 32 and has a single good season in MLB. DeSclafani is a 5th starter getting paid $12M. So those two aren't worth alot. 3rd prospect for Polanco seems fair for 2 years of Polanco (team option 2025). Polanco, Garver, Haniger, Raley is better than Suarez, Teoscar, Kelenic, Ford, Cabellero.

Paying the remaining 6 mil due Desclafani, plus an additional cash consideration means between Haniger, Garver, and Polanco, the Ms have spent nearly 50 mil... on 3 guys that averaged less than "54%" of games played.

Do you even know what you’re talking about? it’s the same type of players on both groups you named. The second group, however can actually stay healthy. Garver, haniger and Jorge are always hurt. They all strikeout a lot. Kelenic and teo will go off next season being in actual lineup’s that can hit.

@@honchosaysokelenic had a good first month and then the league threw him anything except fastballs and he looked really bad. His attitude was a detriment to the team, other players were having to focus on calming him down instead of focusing on the game, Polanco doesn't have an injury history throughout his career until recently, Garver is going to be a DH instead of a catcher so in theory that should really help him stay healthy. Haniger is boom or bust, so who knows what he does this year 🤷‍♂️

Pretty dang cool. We got better at DH and 2B, two things fans were screaming for when the offseason began. I'm still a little worried about OF with Haniger's health track record, but Canzone as a 4 isn't the worst. And we keep our SP rotation intact. 3B is the biggest ? going into the season, but the M's like to have some flexibility in lineup construction and a platoon there gives them that. Was it the splashiest offseason? Nope. But this team def got better on paper. Let's see how it plays out on the field.

CoopMauKona is right. This years upcoming lineup looks stronger. While Suarez is a deservedly popular player, the facts are he hit only 22 home runs last year and will be 33 in the middle of this upcoming season. Kelenic had multiple chances to prove himself. Teoscar was a mild disapointment and not worth to the M's what other teams would pay. Cabellero with his high on base percentage , speed on the base paths, along with above average defense could be one sorely missed. While Raley last year had more strikeouts than hits and walks combined, his minor league record indicates a strong potential for improvement.

I don't mind the trade but you can't argue that you also have a lineup with serious injury concerns due to past history. Jerry is playing with fire here and may lose big time if these bats see significant time on the DL with Garver (back)/Haniger (entire brittle body)/Raley/Polanco (hamstring)/France (the home plate target).

I'm loving 3 switch hitters with J.P., Cal, and Jorge. Looking closer at his injury history, it doesn't seem as bad as it did to me initially. And unlike most switch hitters, Polanco is consistant from either side, and he has some pop in his bat. This lineup is now much harder to shut down than it was last year.

Whelp, we got our Topa replacement. Who is younger and better than Topa. Jerry and co have had a plan in place after ownership sunk their sales, and they've taken lemons and made lemonade with it. This team just got significantly better. Is it good enough to compete with Houston and Texas will remain to be seen. But I think it's a really good start. If we could somehow get Bellinger to Seattle without trading any of our starting pitchers would be the cherry on top. I know that's not likely to happen, and I'm super happy to have Haniger back. But I hope we get a Mitch Haniger who can stay healthy all year and hit 30 hr for us. None the less he is a huge glue guy so I'm really happy he's back home. I'm excited for the season to start!!!!

Honestly I'm actually rather liking the line up. Now do I consider each player in the line up to all be All Star Caliber as they are right now? No, I do not. But what I do think is that this line up has a lot of untapped potential that you aren't gonna necessarily see in the stats and I believe that with the versatility and competition of the line up that it could unlock that potential and create an All Star Caliber team that is World Series bound. Obviously a lot of things are gonna have to go right and hopefully a lot of things don't go wrong. It's easy to feel like it's all doom and gloom when you got 20 years of doom and gloom. But that shit ended in 2022. 2023 was a disappointing season but it was NOT a bad season. Keep in mind we had a better record than the Diamondbacks and they went to the World Series. Either way none of that matters because it's not 2002 to 2021, it's not 2022, it's not 2023. It's 2024. The past is gone. It's history. We are in the future. The future is now. The Future is Mariners. Mariner Moe Mentum!

Canzone in left. But yes better now just lots of ifs still. JP can’t regress, Haniger needs to contribute, 3B and 1B hopefully something. Raley has to perform in a more prominent role. Ty struggles I would see Raley playing there. I hope Bliss kills it in Spring forces the issue and make the roster.

No debate, if everything works out as intended, this is a solid addition. But that's a big if. They add Polanco to what is already an assortment of injury plagued players, combining for 228 games in 2023, while they traded away 427 games in Suarez, Teo and Kelenic. Polanco had multiple injuries in 2023, and missed the last 37 games in 2022. He is clearly getting on the wrong side of health, fast. As with Wong, the crucial question is: did he want to be traded, does he want to play in the PNW? If not, will he do his best or make the business decision to fully recover, making himself unattractive for the 2025 club option and then entering FA? Considering the Twins were clearly keen to shed payroll, the price has just been to high. According to Baseball Trade Values, the Mariners got fleeced 25.3 : 9.4. Mariners grade at ESPN: C, Twins A-. As they didn't gave much up in terms of 2023 roster value, you still cannot get crazy about the trade. Sending 8m in cash and constraining options in the next three weeks is possibly the worst outcome. I hope, that in a couple of months, 2B is Cole Youngs position to loose.

Your comment, of, we’re not gonna talk about money. It’s definitely all about the money with John Stanton. Dipoto continues to be creative regarding acquiring players due to financial constraints. Are they really better than the Rangers and Astros offensively. How could they be? Haninger is not an everyday player, a lot of your opinion is based on speculation regarding France and Haninger and Raley, Rojas and Urias performing at or above their averages. That’s a lot of hope. The bottom line is, yes the M’s might be better than a week ago. It doesn’t take away from the fact, they could potentially be leaps and bounds better if Stanton would have let Dipoto off his chains to pursue some free agents. It’s all about the $$$ with this ownership. Hope springs eternal. Go M’s

Also I’m bias, but Gabby is one of my favorites and I watched him play one game and he hit a HR. Also Topa leaving really hurts the back of the bullpen, high leverage arms are hard to find. Hopefully this team can stay healthy though and be great.

As time has gone on, you can see how masterfully Jerry and Co has maneuvered the market with how limited they've been. As a Twins fan, this looks like a win win trade for both teams! Get to know Jorge Polanco: -Positives 1. He’s a switch hitter, who i thought presented himself as a matchup nightmare for managers. 2. He has been super solid and consistent. Hes been an All-Star once, and has shown he has power and can find gaps well. 3. His mechanics are sorta unorthodox (you may seen some ugly, strange looking swing and misses), but he gets a lot of barrel, and when he doesn’t he will find an opening 4. Even though the Twins have not had much success in the playoffs, Polo has been relatively good with a bat in the big moment 5. He’s quiet. Like very quiet, but a good leader and will fit right in with Seattle -Negatives 1. He can play 2B, SS, and 3B: Why is this bad? Well he’s only average at 2B, below average at SS, and a trainwreck at 3B 2. Despite his good playoff bat, he has made some costly errors in the playoffs that have lost us games 3. The last 2 years he’s been injury prone. Kinda a bummer there Enjoy Jorge Polanco Seattle!

the reason this happened is appeasement. Mariners fans are kinda dumb. He's garbage defensivly. He's meh at best. People keep using our pitching to bolster their opinion of this guy. What's up with that? We had great pitching last year and it didn't help us hit when we needed it. Plus everyone keeps brushing off his injuries. Guess what folks he's 30. In pro sports 30 is 40. What happens as we age? Do injuries happen less or more? We're not in the steroid era (i hope] where players miraculously get better as they age! The guy isn't Bonds. He's not going to get bigger and stronger and hit better later. The M's had 1 job. Find a hitter that gets progressivly better by seasons end and in the playoffs. A guy that plays at least mid defensivly or at least isn't a liability. A guy that rakes 20ish HR a season. A decent slugging % and who doesn't get ice cold in September. M's allegedly have one of the best farm systems in baseball and we couldn't bring a youngster up with that sorta game give up next to nothing and pay them peanuts for a year? Win now? Every great team (Dodgers, Braves Astros) has gotten better not worse and until we can beat them what are we even doing? Nope this was a rinky dink move too buy a name M's fans might kinda sorta recognize so they'll shut up. I pray I'm wrong but as they say the more things change the more they stay the same😢
