Apple has always done this. They make a pretty poor product with little features, but then say to make it better, you can purchase all of these special Apple add ons. Anyone remember when ipods didn't have an fm tuner, but they had an adapter to add it later when other mp3 players include a tuner for free.

chevy_ss_A I had a 6 plus. I’m now on an 11. Had wire earbuds that came with it but the left ear piece wasn’t working. That was irritating. Brand new and not working. So I’m not using earbuds. If I need to one day I’ll track new ones down. But I’m Not gonna pay anymore for something that’s really a luxury not a need.

well Samsung had SD card slots for the s4 and s5 I think but they took it out for s6 annnd pepper were pissed lol they obviously realized it was a bad idea and fixed it for the s7 which now has a SD slot along with many other features including a headphone port lol so hopeful iphone can admit there mistake and fix the problem next year

i cannot count how many times i've accidently gotten stuck the wires on headphones on something and pulled out of my ears, or how I always have to undo all the knots. Cables just take up space, I've been waiting for apple to make them wireless because they fit so well in the ear. I'm just saying why I like wireless stuff better, if you like wires yourself then that's ok

You can't forget to charge them because you are supposed to keep them in that case which charges them and that case has a really long batter, so you will probably be fine. I do agree with the falling out and breaking part, though! The EarPods never stayed in my ears and i doubt these new wireless ones will either.

So basically removing the headphone jack was done for Apple's convenience & YOUR INCONVENIENCE. That pretty much sums up Apple's attitude toward the customer.

Yet the Note 7 has a far bigger battery, a larger screen and A FUCKING PEN inside it! All while being a smaller and lighter phone than the iPhone 7 Plus. And it still has a headphone jack... Also the Note 7 supports wireless charging. If Apple really thought wireless is the way of the future then they would have included wireless charging too...

Wow! you just made me realize this. Don't forget the note 7 has a bigger screen too. Honestly, with all the excuses they're giving, Apple should be embarrassed. It just shows that their engineering prowess is terribly lacking. It would benefit them to fire some people and try to learn from Samsung's methods. Also, the higher the frequency of the wave, the higher its energy is. In the electromagnetic spectrum, those at the extremes (xray, gamma rays etc.) have small wavelengths, high frequency, and high energy. In the case of microwaves, they were first used during world war 1 as people created smaller antennae than the usual ones to broadcast signals. They found out that these new antennae emitted waves smaller than radiowaves so they named it microwaves. Microwave has energy lesser than the energy associated with infrared and visible light. Microwave oven uses microwave to cause vibration of water molecules in our food, but the energy associated with these waves is not enough to cause alteration in our DNA, or even complete ionization of cell or tissues. Xrays and gamma rays have great power to cause changes in the DNA creating tumor, to vaporize matter in split seconds such as the case of materials caught at the core of nuclear bomb explosion. Even we bathed at microwaves (300 MHz - 300 GHz), our tissues are still healthy at the highest frequency of 300 GHz. Frequencies higher than 300 GHz are no longer considered microwaves and they fall under Infrared. Unlike the gamma rays and xrays, microwaves are way way safer to use for food warming. By the way, you can check that Bluetooth emits low-power radio waves, not microwaves : electronics.howstuffworks.com/bluetooth2.htm . Maybe you can rewrite your arguments with radio waves instead of microwaves. It does not have enough power to knock off electrons in our cells or cause mutation. In fact, we humans give off radiation with a frequency higher than microwave's namely, infrared. I find it weird that Apple doesn't have good enough engineers to make a phone that have enough space for a headphone jack when you see that Samsung easily with it's Note7 phablet can put in a massive 3500 mAh battery that is 600 mAh bigger than the iPhone 7 Plus battery, it even has wireless charging built in, a big S Pen inside the phone that takes up quite alot of space, a MicroSD card slot, a headphone jack, 2x capacitive buttons and also IP68 certification that is even better than what the iPhone 7 Plus have with it's IP67 certification. And on top of that, Samsung manages to put in a 0.2 inch bigger screen than what the iPhone 7 Plus have and then on top of that again, manages to make the Galaxy Note 7 smaller than the iPhone 7 Plus. How did Samsung manage to do that "magic" if Apple thinks they have such great engineers? If Apple could have gone the same way as Samsung did to actually make the phones thicker to be able to put in a bigger battery, then you would automaticly have more space for a headphone jack and whatever. So i don't really buy their argument that they didn't had the the space for the headphone jack when they could have just made the iPhone 7 models thicker and then made everything so much easier from there. Anyone agrees on this?

After Steve Jobs pass away, Apple do not have good ideas anymore!!! Removing the jack was a very dum decision. Apple excuses do not have any sense. If they really remove the jack conector, just because is an old technology, think like that is very stupid! (No offense) The Idea of credit card was described in 1887, and we still use it today to pay on-line or in store, Televisor invention was around 1925's, Phones around 1844 to 1898, Photography around 1877, Computer around 1941, Internet around 1983, jack connector around 1964, and the list goes on and on... With this list you could see, that there is not reason to remove the jack. We are surrounded by old technology, the technology that you think is new, it already existed in the past, and the only difference is we made it better, but no remove.

I agree. So far they've produced the trash can, the hump, and the hair dryers. Their design hasn't been up to par and they seem like they lacked the vision that jobs had. I went back to wired earphones through a lightening adaptor and recently it seemed to be playing up. I never had such problem with the headphone jack because it was probably really simple.

True, I would be biased toward wires. And shoe your point is off, phones don't need controllers, and it's speakers sure aren't good enough if you want quality sound, so phones technically already have a wired controller as its on the screen

I agree, saves batteries too...maybe apple wouldn't need a bigger battery if they didn't force users to have Bluetooth always on to listen to music. Then there's the added risk of someone hacking your phone using Bluetooth (I still laugh at people who cover the camera's on their computer but not their phone). May or may not be something to worry about but for the average person, who does put tape over their camera cause they don't know about computer security, he/she will likely trust old fashioned wires...(I'm sure a lot of people will freak out about driver-less cars getting hacked in the near future) Why fix it if it aint broke...I was happy with the 4 and then actually got annoyed by the size increase every year

One simple way to fix it, make the fucking thing a little thicker. It's ~too~ thin. It bends, and they are purposely taking out room for that. If it being a little thicker means huge battery life increase, a headphone jack, haptic engine, pressable home button, no radio interference (hissgate) from parts being too close and etc.

I like it thin. With all the options out there was wrong with some thin ones. It works for me. Haven't bent a phone yet. Thou i tend to take care of my expensive electronic devises.

MMAteenager I haven't bent a phone either, my 3Gs is still in pristine condition after all these years and my SE has not a mark on it. But it happened. I know thin phones seem nice but no matter what Apple tries, all the technology they want to fit in a phone just won't happen in a body so thin. We're just not there yet even though Apple pretends to be.

I disagree. I think its impressive how much faster the iPhone 7 is when compared to the Note 7. A phone that is nearly a third larger. It benchmarks almost twice as fast normally with a slower processor. Really a testament for optimization than anything. I get the brand loyalty. Phones are expensive and you want to feel as if one or the other is clearly the better choice because you won't regret your decision later and removes all chances of doubt, but the fact is all of the flagship phones are so close in performance that the only thing that really matters is personal preference for features and form factor. Everything is a sacrifice for something else. So who are you, me, or anyone to call someone else stupid or otherwise imply it because they like a one handed phone or large screen, they like iOS or android, they like 15% more battery or a headphone jack, or open sourced vs a phone optimized os.

It's funny how both Sony and Samsung manage to use pressable buttons, 3,5mm jack AND have waterproofing. By the way, iPhone also has pressable buttons on the side. There is exactly zero reasons to abandon pressable button. They did it for the sake of "we can do this".

I use my iPhone 11 Pro as my phone and my iPhone 6 (and it’s headphone jack) as a high capacity iPod. Trading the iPhone 6 would have only gained me $50. Keeping the 6 as a phone would be problematic because Apple does not allow it to be updated with the newest operating system, which keeps some apps from functioning.

Keep in mind that they own "Beats by Dr. Dre". There is a natural synergy to be had there but also great risk if the lack of an analog stereo output ends up harming both Beats & Apple.

It wasn't about space, it was only about profit, plan and simple. Profit for the wireless earbuds and wireless beats. They had to secure a customer base for that product to be profitable.what better way than to create your customer base by force.

Exactly my opinion... I love apple products but I use my headphone jack like all day every day... But since it's the "future" it's like the note 7.. So no one is going to complain... The exploding battery thing is just going to be a temporary pitfall. People might hope it will kill Samsung but it will not. If they sell around 6 million good N7s they will recover from the loss and sell millions more. On the bright side this will make people and companies take batteries more seriously. But other than exploding the N7 is a good phone.

7 is not a lucky number for Apple or Samsung.

The real reason: Money 💰

I once read a book by an Electrical Engineer who spent his career designing audio equipment. It was very enlightening, he pointed out that electronic parts are so cheap they did not want the assembly works to bend over to pick up any that had fallen to the floor. The most expensive components for manufactures are the parts like, knobs, buttons, jacks cases, screens, etc. The cheapest parts are the solid-state components. What Apple is doing is passing the cost of the most expensive parts on to the consumer. If you want to use a wired headset then you pay the cost of the parts they can not get a price advantage on. And that is what it is all about, the jack is a part that would cost all manufacturers that same. If you are a audiophile wireless is still not as good a sound quality as wired.

Raymond Reddington because that’s how apple works. any addition they make to their phone is an additional cost. that’s why their current line-up is so expensive. it now starts at 64gb, but they’ll charge more. wireless charging? more. oled? more. water resistance? more. even samsung is like this. meanwhile, other android competitors with the same specs cost $650, which nullifies apple’s pricing altogether.

Why is Samsung hard, are u that stupid to understand the functions. I hade a iPhone and a old Samsung as a kid. U cans ay iPhone 1 and Samsung 3. I understood how to use it at a young at nut u can't? My Hispanic friends figured out how to use it without even having a previous phone or using one. He hade a flip phone. It's not complicated it's a typical easy and simple. Maybe ur just not as smart as u think. Ten only reason to known if it's easy or not is to have both devices. I find Samsung way easier to use especially the function where u can just back out of any tab without going to the top left corner of the screen and clicking it. It's way simpler and less time co summing.

If I used Bluetooth controller for gaming on my device I wouldn't be able to use my wireless headphones.... That why I prefer headphone Jack

I spent a bunch of money on a set of headphones just for listening on my iPhone and so when I did my iPhone upgrade I didn’t even know it didn’t have a jack until I was 30,000 feet in the air headed to Hong Kong

Flying is old, we've been doing it for over 100 years, we should get rid of all of our planes. And since wheels are old too, no cars or wagons. Sleighs are old as well, no sleighs. Don't forget to get rid of all of the boats as well.

Those advance, a headphone jack is well... a headphone jack. Other than a quality difference the headphone jack is just a place where a better anything can be put. In the future, I hope to see us making an 8-core 4.0GHz processor in the new Phones. they may be bigger, but still like a modern-day gaming pc.

Alex Cordone Android already has octa core phones. iPhone is way behind Android tech. heck Android packed better equipment into phones the same size as the iPhone7, kept the headphone Jack, managed to still have room for a removable SD card, duel cameras, and a fingerprint scanner. iPhone will probably never add a SD card slot because they make more money charging $100 extra for each memory upgrade, and they think it's old tech that takes to much room. I can see it now, iPhone 8 now with a bigger screen and better cameras, but to make room for that we used a single core processor, 512 mb memory, 512 mb ram, removed the speakers so it only works via Bluetooth, removed volume buttons and added them as digital onscreen buttons, removed charging port but added removable battery so battery has to be removed and put on separate icharger in order to be charged.

After iOS11 bricked my iphone 7 and Apple wouldn't cover it under warranty as it was 2 weeks past ..... I closed my account at AT&T. Been with apple since the first iPhone and loved their product. But lately, these random stupid changes have pissed me off, telling me to buy a new phone because iOS11 bricked it was the last straw. Three other people in the Apple store had similar problems as well, so I know I am not alone. Reopened a new account and got the Galaxy S8+ just to try. They have "easy mode" that somewhat emulates iOS experience. So far I am liking it. If/when Apple gets their scattered ducklings back together, I may come back. I about fainted when I saw the headphone jack.... oh, those AKG brand headphones they supply are beauties.

Bluetooth headphones are trash. You can't listen to music in them while being anywhere near your Internet router. It loses connection almost every time because Bluetooth frequency interferes with WiFi frequency.

Wireless charging make sense when you can simultaneously charge and talk over the phone and yes walking around the room. I can still use my handset and charge with the charging cable. the existing wireless charging makes no sense at all, it's a gimmick and not practical at all.

I think the biggest problem with removing the headphone jack is not being able to charge and listen to audio with wires at the same time unless you buy an adapter apple doesn't officially even sell anymore.

The Galaxy S10 Plus has a headphone jack. There is no excuse to removing it

Apple also knows that its customers are gullible as hell and in seriously in denial about EVERYTHING. This phone jack removal issue is a prime example. Apple users will outright REFUSE to admit that lacking a headphone jack was a horrific mistake and a real disadvantage.

iPhone 8 - Apple puts wireless charging in their phone and removes the lightning connector. BTW they couldn't put wireless charging in the 7, because very few people will buy the 8. If you look at all the Apple phones you will notice that there is only one big new change per generation. This is top notch marketing - maximum profit with minimum investment. No wonder that Apple is looking to be the most profitable company in the world - you can't beat selling cheap devices at high prices.

When this phone came out, the cheapest wireless headsets/buds were in the $100s. And Bluetooth headsets/earbuds last only a couple of hours and take another couple of hours to charge. A pain in the ass.

I have never purchased a single product from Apple, and I'm proud.

I know this is an old video, but here goes. I have an Android MOTO G7. It's BIGGER than an iPhone 7, and HAS a head phone jack! Not everyone wants wireless...I like to listen to music with a head set on because ear buds bothers me. Also, I like to plug my OLD iPod into my radeo VIA headphone plug. I want an old, none connected iPhone simply to use to play my iTunes, in my truck or with a head set. My old iPods have issues and skip when listening to audio books. I use my Android for books now, but books take up space. I can get an iPhone 7 for $90, but now that I know it has no headphone jack, I'll look for an older one.

Space...😂😂😂 so Apple says we can't compete with Samsung becoz they fit way more tech in their phones with 3.5mm jack but Apple Can't.

WOW $160 dollar EARBUDS with the only new feature is that it's Bluetooth...

The real reason why Apple removed the headphone jack is for the money. They want to own the market that is headphones and rake in all that money. The water resistance reason is invalid because Samsung's Note 7 has a headphone, and a place for their stylus and is also water resistance. So Apple just wants a ton of money, and generate money for their partners.

How does Apple "own" the market? Do you seriously think they're the only producer of Bluetooth headphones? Do you not know that that market has existed for years beforehand, and now there will be even more third-party products? Apple wants to make a push towards wireless.

It's not the first time apple would make their products proprietary, actually that's how Jobs started with Apple computers. He later with the Iphones, realized he would be left in the dark if he didn't compete with Microsoft and allow apps to be used on apple products, windows, android and other systems. Edawad792- I have a bridge to sell you in Brooklyn. All three reasons are valid but space saving seems to be more practical because headphone jacks may be old, but you buy headphones less than you make an hour and see it's not going to be wireless.. Most gamers, and tech savy people still use wires because you can't beat the speed..

The Galaxy S5 was also water resistant up to 1 metre of water for half an hour, with a headphones jack, and it came out in 2014. Apple has just run out of ideas. the next "innovation" will probably be wireless charging on the iPhone 8, which Android has already had for years. Apple is just all about looking good and making money.

Samsung s21 and the ultra one also dont have the earphone jack sooo….. apparently now newer phones dont have an earphone jack. U gotta buy the small adapter to connect with ur wired earphones. Honestly u dont have to waste money and buy the airpods u can just buy a small adapter to connect 👍🏻

its also safer because using earphones while your phone is charged is dangerous

Samsung phones still have a headphone jack despite being water resistant of IP68, has a larger battery & more internal space

By your logic, Tesla would be copying as well, because they didn't invented the car. There is a big difference between innovation and invention. Samsung and Apple have different ideas. There are currently more Galaxy Smartphones than iPhone, but the iPhone 7 completely destroyed the S7 in terms of sales. Same goes for the Apple Watch.
