I’m an Asia Slow Traveler. I fly solo as well. It’s the best. I meet many new friends everywhere I go that I wouldn’t meet with someone. I get the best of all worlds. I like flying solo because I can travel on my own tempo. I’ve traveled with partners before and that was good. To thine own self be true. Eventually I’ll travel with a great partner. I’m so contented and happy

Staying alone is Freedom! It’s refreshing to listen to your views about Malaysia in particular. Try to get yourself a sip of Teh Tarik, a favorite Malaysian tea that you could get at most local coffee shops. Keep up the good work.

...be careful what you wish for. you just might get it. you cannot afford to get stupid about Americans. perhaps you might lose another jet airliner or your next prime minister will be appointed by Washington. and if you think about the billions of ringgits flowing from KL to the US every year by companies like starbucks, McDonalds or KFC you might wake up to the fact one day that they own you. be very careful. America is closer to than your jugular vein.

It's easier to focus on yourself and your goals when you aren't burdened with other peoples problems and wants. Never be afraid or ashamed to be solo. Once you become successful you will have the time for others if you want. Sadly there are a lot of people who will bring you down for various reasons like envy, jealously, hate, etc. I dealt with a lot of that with people in my 30's. Do what's best for you with no regrets.

Ben, you make great videos. I am very interested in re-locating to Malaysia with Thailand as a second choice from USA & came across your channel. I've watched probably 10 videos now in full... First time commenting mainly to show some love. I also have digestive issues, at least celiac, but who knows what more & have gotten to the point where I don't bother eating out in USA (midwest) at all anymore. I'd definitely give it a shot in Asia, but would have to be super careful. I have a tip for you since you talk about being hot & sweaty all the time... I do adventure float trips at least once a year for long weekends & whenever it's hot, I jump in the water with a shirt on & when I get out even in 100F temps with sun beating down, it's like AC for up to like 30 minutes... Maybe try it out. The best shirt for this is made of bamboo, a super lightweight hoodie with long sleeves. The one I have is Free Fly brand but I recently saw Eddie Bauer makes a similar looking one called Solarfoil. I bet you could find something similar in Asia but also I'm sure it would work fine even in a tshirt (a wet hood is nice, but you can also get your hat wet too), hell it probably dries way slower & that's a good thing in this case... Just get drenched on purpose before going out, you'll love it.

But when socializing, i'm the icebreaker and then, it tooks me more than a week to recharge...😅 Go fishing here, starting with a few local friends then once you get to know our nature here...solo fishing will be your paradise. Maybe create a fishing content too, while you're in Malaysia. Trust me, you will be the first travel vloggers that doing the mingling with our nature by fishing. 😊

For the longest time, I've been travelling with friends. Recently, I've been thinking about solo traveling, because there are places I want to go, and none of my friends seemed interested. They are more the party type, while I like visiting ancient and historical sites, nature, museums, galleries etc... I'm still a little afraid of doing solo travels, because I have lingering questions in my head like, what if something bad happens to me and nobody knew who/where I was, or I get into some problems or weird situations, who do I turn to etc... Eventually I'll travel alone, but I don't think I'm ready...😅😅

It's funny how strangers can be so nosy as to ask why you are alone. It's so nice of you to explain. What's wrong with being alone? Introverts need a lot of solitude to recharge. I know because I am an introvert. An extroverted introvert. I have friends but I fiercely guard my alone time. So, while it's understandable that you want to be nice to people online but yes, don't worry too much about strangers' comments.

Yeah, I would get that question often but after awhile I can answer in a standard way, and getting beyond the initial impression and formalities it can be worth it. I also get other direct questions in Asian culture in regards to my weight for example because I guess my appearance is slightly underweight. I think comments on appearance and if you’re alone could be normal in Asian culture but in a way I can feel it’s invasive but I find I’m curious and entertained by this aspect and how being alone strikes a nerve with some. I used to be quite direct in my inquiries but then realized I was a little too serious, inquiring into nuanced things that are normally avoided in such situations and have become less serious. Making small talk in general can be a challenge and sometimes people look at me like I’m a weirdo asking about the weather.

Has sweetened condensed milk, so you probably can't have it. Look left and up for a Sheraton (I stayed there once). You'll pass the police station. On the wall to your left is a mural of 3 guys. When I watched my first videos of yours, I thought this is an extrovert person. But just a couple of more videos and I realized that no, he is an introvert. But that's how it goes in real life too, first impression often fails. One way to understand this is to look more deeply at personality types and especially cognitive functions behind them. Are you aware Ben which type you are for example in MBTI? I am an INFJ (the type who often seems to be interested in personality typing stuff 🤭...) and would guess that you are an ISFP or ISTP. -- Ok, ISTJ is also possible 😄what do I know...

I always wondered what it's like for an american to go somewhere where you know your government has been, as well as you CIA, military , IMF and world bank and they just fucked up the place and ruined the lives of those people there politically, militarily, economically, environmentally, culturally, etc. There are many such places like Vietnam, Korea, Latin America, Africa. I want to see Americans confront their legacy of death and destruction in the most brutally honest way. I believe these matters should be reconciled even before any american tourism is allowed into any such country. You don't just sweep it under the rug like it never happened. This is nothing personal. But I believe that debts should be paid, even with tears or apologies if necessary. You can desensitize yourself back home but if you're gonna revisit the scene of the crime like a tourist you should have some decency about it.
