Have you watched the British tv series, called ‘humans’? It’s about robotic ‘humans, ie A.I. WELL, there’s a character who is Middle Aged suffering from MS, who gets a robot to help her…I 1st thot, wow I’d love that, because my spouse is a horrible care giver!….but then I watched the full series, and the A.I. gets so intelligent and becomes anti-human due to jealousy!!!

I'm in the market for an anti-ageist senior defender robot, if anyone knows. This robot would accompany me on my daily activities. Its algorithm would be super sharp at detecting ageism from others toward me. Capable of detecting even the slightest micro-ageist tendencies. When detected, the robot would then be activated to slap the living piss out of the offender. I'm willing to pay big bucks for such a robot.😀

This is a major problem with non industry people talking about technology, they can’t separate expectations vs reality. The robot is not going to give an intelligent response, no one at Tesla has hinted that and Siri and Google is still trash at intelligent systems. The function of robot has been repeatedly expressed to replace boring and repetitive tasks humans do. I suggest the author of this video to work a part time job in manufacturing to understand what boring and repetitive truly is…

Optimus is an extremely long term project, which if you look at it one way, only operates repetitive and boring tasks, I think the best function that it could have if it could only do a single thing, is be told to copy the user while they perform an action or task, and then be able to do that task itself on command for instance repeatedly regardless of what they can actually do once they get there, the most important thing they would have is Tesla full self driving software expanded up to 3 dimensions, if they have a 4D vector map of the world in their software, that would be gamechanging on so many different levels, even if the robot itself is unable to carry out any task except for "Follow me" or "go over there" or "fetch the x", it would still be kind of incredible and would still be functional enough that it would have people who could utilise it, in which case the software would have to be able to learn the identities of different objects I mean that is basically the job of an assistant, also, if it can walk somewhat normally without looking impaired, that would be a major plus, even just having one of these follow you around say to a shop, you hand it groceries, and just tell it to hold them, and follow you home, would be really useful too, even extremely basic functionality would be exceptionally useful, and it does have hands and fingers Functions I think it needs to be viable -Move -Hold -Fetch -Follow -Pick up -Put down -Drop if they have a working prototype which can do all of these functions effectively on any object, that already could change the world

Your expectations of Tesla Bot at the end of September are total fantasy. Tesla AI could be an unbelievably lucrative business without coming anywhere near your “ask any question and get a reasonable answer” or “ask the bot to do some random thing and then it does it”. How many people thought that Amazon could be a computing cloud provider as well as an online retailer? Amazon thought they needed a scalable computer system for their business and after they accomplished that, they found they could dominate the cloud business, now called AWS. Tesla created AI technology to create FSD and now that they have succeeded with that, they now are creating their own super computer tech (dojo) and AI. Who knows how big this will get? The robot is just the first of many ways to monetize the AI tech Tesla has created.

  • @clarkd1955

@@MrSilvertech I don’t think successful AI needs to be the “super dupper” AI that many would imagine. We have had many AI’s already that are useful and they are not the super self teaching AI’s that can just turn up the giga hertz and compress years of learning into ever decreasing time frames. We have absolutely no evidence that an AI can just continuously make itself smarter. We still have no way of knowing what method will produce some kind of synthetic consciousness. Currently we have had some success with large neural nets but training them requires a huge amount of very precise data that contains the correct answers. AI’s can only produce data (for training) automatically in artificial environments like games, not the real world. We might be close or very far away from super AI but Tesla seems to have made much progress (in areas like FSD ) to be hopeful even without reaching super AI. Has anyone showed how an AI could FAB it’s own hardware?

I'd like to see Teslabot mimic the movements of a human wearing AR goggles (to see through the robot's eyes) and monitored by cameras, with the robot AI handling balance and movement planning. Tactile and haptic feedback would be a bonus. That would enable remote work 'through' a robot as a training data source, analogous to monitoring human driven cars. Even if self-directed humanoid robots don't take off, it'll be very useful for doing work 'outdoors' on Mars, as well as dangerous situations on Earth.

no, it won't be "golden age". I'm a programmer and have been working in the AI field since 2000. What many technologist forget is that funneling money into your account while decimating the lives of millions isn't a golden age. If we look at how pandemic cycles have been accelerating over the last 2 decades, it's clear robots can reduce the down time. From Tesla's perspective, it makes sense to automate human labor where possible to reduce down time and improve efficiency. Toyota and Honda both have been working on humanoid robots for over 2 decades. With Darpa's robotics challenge, it's made progress. Add to that boston dynamics, it's getting closer. Elon's timeline of when Tesla robot will be ready is mostly hype. The robotics domain is quite diverse and there's lots of groups doing great research. One needs to be able to operate in conditions of glare (e.g sunrise) , low contrast like foggy conditions, and country driving in low light levels (e.g night driving). The human visual system is designed at the retinal level to identify edges and motion. You could use a high resolution camera to find the edges of objects then dump the remaining image data. I'd be very cautious about utopia promises.... despite high level of automation and vastly increased industrial output average working age people are getting poorer and need to work more despite having a lower living standard than what people had 50 years ago. Nowadays you need 2 people working full-time (or more) to even think about a 30-year long loan, parents/ grandparents could buy a home on one salary and pay it off in couple years.

That's why we'll need UBI. Even Elon has said it. If AI eventually does everything, we won't have a paycheck. But everything could be free because robots are making more robots and doing everything from mining and farming to designing better computers to flying and driving and everything else. I could see a lot of people feeling worthless and falling into depression while others excel and are happy and successful at whatever it is they feel like doing.

We were also warned about the dangers of Electricity too hmm How well did that turn out? Seems anything that has the power to advance society is a danger.
