On 8 March 2024, the UN Women Centre of Excellence for Gender Equality in the Republic of Korea (the Centre) convened its second International Women's Day celebration at Hotel Westin Josun in Seoul, marking a significant gathering of over 200 participants from the Government, diplomatic community, private sector, and academic and research institutions. The event aimed to highlight and discuss the critical imperative of investing in women and girls, affirming unwavering support for UN Women's mission.

Jean Mackenzie is a foreign correspondent and documentary maker for the BBC. She is currently based in Seoul, covering the Korean Peninsula, where she has reported on gender equality issues in South Korea and exposed human rights violations in North Korea. Jean has reported from across Europe, where she sought out under-reported countries and stories, and has spent time in the Middle East.
Prior to her work abroad, she reported on UK current affairs, pursuing her passion for reporting on women’s rights. Jean’s investigative journalism has led to laws being changed. Part-Scottish, Part-Londoner, Jean was born in Scandinavia and grew up in the UK.
