Price point actually isn't horrifying when you consider that arguably 90% of people that but a 70 series cruiser end up spending an extra 15-20k in upgrades to bring it to a decent spec. So at 100-110K for a vehicle off the show room where you don't need to spend on GVM upgrades, Suspension, tyres or wheels etc etc is probably worth it in my opinion. I would still like to see the Ineos put through its paces properly on some genuine 4x4 tracks and some remote touring to prove its capability but first thoughts are for 95% of Australians interest in this vehicle it would be more then sufficient for caravaning and touring along the coastline and driving on the beach

The thing that’s missing from all these journalist presentations on the new Ineos, Grenadier is some very serious, arduous, off-road, driving ……. I haven’t yet seen it in any circumstances where it seems to actually be being put to the test. All these presentations are a nice drive down the road or across a bit of a track for the most part a very good front wheel drive. Car could actually achieve a satisfactory drive on some of these circuits. Ineos need to produce some very serious off-road footage to show this vehicle at its very best

I need one! However, I will wait to see how they handle sales and service in North America. I live in a very rugged and remote town in the mountains of Northwestern Canada, so we are definitely missing totally utilitarian 4x4s, up here. The most common vehicles up here are Toyota Tacomas, Toyota 4Runners, Jeep Wranglers and assorted other pickup trucks. This vehicle is needed. Our economy up here depends on tough, rugged 4x4s, but auto makers keep making plastic luxury AWD crossovers and telling us it is what we want. It is frustrating lol.

Not long ago I posted a comment on a video on Ineos's channel saying I'm from Vancouver Canada working up in the rugged North, so could use a rig like the Grenadier. Ineos actually replied quickly, saying "We will be there soon. Keep an eye out for details". I was surprised and impressed they took time to reply to my random comment! I was raised in West Vancouver, and my parents still live there, so I'm there whenever I have any extended time off work.

Check out a Jeep Gladiator with an Alu-cab or other type cap on the bed. Thing is a tank and goes anywhere- Rubicon has locking front and rear diffs, disconnecting sway bar, and handles 35s with no lift. I modded mine with steel front bumper and winch, 35s and Alucab canopy and it is still like $10K US less than what the Grenadier will cost. Only real downside is less cargo capacity, but at least I have a five foot covered bed to load my stuff. Im not even sure if the rear seat folds completely flat in the Grenadier. So unless you really need to carry 2,000 + lbs of cargo on the regular, Grenadier does not have anything else going for it over a Gladiator with a cap. I have 45,000 miles on mine, with moderate offroading (blues and a few blacks here and there) and zero issues.

@@dadventuretv2538 I'll stick with my 4Runner TRD Off Road lol. I need a durable vehicle that is reliable. Jeeps are problem prone. Toyota builds the 4Runner to last forever, like the Land Cruiser. Ineos is building the Grenadier to be durable and to last a long time. No American manufacturer does that.

@@lunamaria1048 glad you like your 4Runner. It’s a great rig, but won’t go places Jeeps will. And why do LC drivers carry an extra alternator again? I’ve seen more CV joints, idler arms and tie-rods break on Yotas trying to keep up with Jeeps than I can count, especially with larger tires. I run in offroad clubs with guys that have been running Jeeps hard, way harder than most people push their vehs, for years. Not knocking Yotas, but I think the reliability thing can get overblown in both directions- Yotas are far from indestructible, see the Taco (although the Gen 5 4Runner might well be one of the last in NA to be built the old Toyota way), and Jeeps get it the other way, despite the fact that they’re not nearly as unreliable as people make em out to be, and when it comes to talking about when pushing em hard are actually tougher. We’ll see about Ineos. It has some potential Achilles heels (whether that BMW powerplant will really hold up to offroad use and abuse being a big one- I know it’s a good engine, but good for cars- to my knowledge it’s never been put in a veh that will put it to the kind of abuse the Grenadier will, and there are some plastic parts that might not last and I also wonder about its exposure to water crossings over time) and is built in France in an old Merc factory, both known for their high quality and reliability. 🙄 Personally, I’d keep the 4Runner for while. But the biggest issue with the Grenadier I think will wind up being price- the Grenadier is gonna make a 4Runner TRD Pro over sticker look cheap. All the things that they talk about for offroading like lockers etc are either options on the entry level model or you have to step up to the Trialmaster. Still glad to see em in the market, assuming they keep their promise to come to NA- they only have 5,000 reservations in the US. That’s about half the number of Wranglers that Jeep sells in the US in its slowest month. So I hope their numbers guys don’t decide to do some math and decide to bail on us. I am excited to hopefully be able to see and drive one sometime, and for some buyers in Europe and down under to finally get their hands on em and tell us their experiences and what it’s like to mod. I’ve seen enough fluff vids about em- get em out to people already- like I say, a lot of preconceived notions about vehs change, both for the good and the bad, once they get out there on the trails and we have actual, real world data.

The car that Land Rover WOULDN'T build... A new Defender that was only a small step forward from the old Defender yet cost just as much as the actual New Defender. Aside from the frame chassis and live axles, there is actually not that great a difference between a new Defender and the Grenadier. Yes, the Ineos' 6 cyl comes from BMW whereas the Defender's is a LR in-house development - but the mechanical components is not where LR's reliability issues in the past years came from. And a large number of the rest of the suppliers are shared between the 2 manufacturers. Bosch, ZF, Valeo, Behr, etc, etc... Where LR's (perceived) reliability problems were in the past 10 or so years were mainly in the electronics. And the Grenadier is not too far behind the Defender in this department. So it will be a contest to see which of the 2 is more "reliable" (in quotes and perceived above because the problems LR's had generally did not leave the vehicle stranded, it was in the ancillary systems - annoying but not mission critical). I am actually quite happy that there are 2 vehicles like this available now. The New Defender is better looking and more refined, whereas the Grenadier is more of a work horse. I do think that Ineos missed the price segment they should have targeted with a (supposedly) simpler working man's 4x4, though...

Here is more hyperbole from the motoring press. Very few people need one but will want one because they think they are adventurers, and want to be associated with down-to-earth miners, farmers, or tradesmen. It might look rugged but is it? It's not all about switches. Being the owner of an old Defender and the new Defender I'm sceptical of the motive and the execution.

The cost of development pushed Land Rover out of this segment because the demand just isn’t there. Toyota may be cutting back its 78/9 offerings and Mercedes has moved the G relentlessly upmarket and on to the road not off it. What we have here is the triple diff locks and stance of a G, rear doors of a Troopie and looks of a Defender. Ineos may end up the only player in this niche. Good luck!

I want to like it but British with a German motor doesn’t inspire confidence here in Australia. I’d need to wait a couple of years to hear how they do or don’t perform. It sounds great and is obviously well thought out. The switch gear is unique and quite clever. The silly sunroof concept needs a cover for hot weather/climates. The hose out ability is fantastic and the extra strength of the chassis is worthy but these are heavy vehicles with moderate power.

What is interesting is that it seems like the Ineos is never aired down when off-road (in all their footage) probably to not further reduce the already low ground clearance, also seems like Ineos did not listen and still has the steering damper as the lowest point in the front (well below the bash plate) so if you do any more serious off-roading probably only a matter of time till that one is ripped off. Pity they did not take a few more suggestions on board kzread.info/dash/bejne/hWxnuaielLbRkdo.html

Land Rover could have done it, but they didn't want to. If the build quality can match Toyota, the Grenadier may become a success. One big minus are the rear doors. The present design is practical to countries with RHD, but there should be an arrangement to suit LHD vehicles: the large door hinged on the left hand, the small on the right hand. I would prefer upper and lower tail gate as I've on my trusted OneTen MY 1985 and almost 500,000 km on the clock.

4:26 - a grid reference is not the same thing as a latitude and longitude: courtesy of ChatGPT: "Both grid references and latitude and longitude are systems used to specify a location on the Earth's surface. However, there are some differences between the two: Grid reference: A grid reference is a system that divides a map into a series of squares, each of which is assigned a unique identifier. The identifier consists of a letter and a number, which together specify a location within the square. For example, in the British National Grid system, a grid reference might be given as "ST 123 456", where "ST" represents the square, "123" is the easting (horizontal coordinate) and "456" is the northing (vertical coordinate). Latitude and longitude: Latitude and longitude are a coordinate system that uses imaginary lines on the Earth's surface to specify a location. Latitude is the angular distance north or south of the equator, while longitude is the angular distance east or west of the prime meridian. Together, latitude and longitude form a pair of coordinates that uniquely identify a location on the Earth's surface. In summary, while grid references are based on a map's grid system, latitude and longitude are based on a coordinate system that uses imaginary lines on the Earth's surface."

I would say that cars like the Toyota Landcruiser j70 are used way more in the world than the Defender. Have always been a Defender fan, but in terms of reliability and usage around the world it is more of an UK thing as far as I‘m concerned. Same goes for G class which is also a great off-road vehicle, but is mostly used in Europe. These cars are very capable, but due to price and availability have never seen such a world wide use. I really like the Grenadier since it takes the best parts from several companies and cars like the motor from BMW, the seats from Recaro and the lockers from Magna Steyr and puts them into a nicely designed frame for a fair price. As sorry as I am to say it, but (aside the fanbase keeping the Defender alive) the Defender is dead. With that in mind I reall enjoy that Ineos are carrying on the legacy and have changed many flawed things for the better. A great off-roader is born!

James, don't see that as a problem in that with a "traditional" speedo and tacho you DO have to drop your gaze down to the dashboard below the windscreen , whereas the Grenadier screen is mounted quite high on the dashboard, at lower windscreen level, so you just need to glance to the left to see revs and speed.

Just that the vital information is so far away from the driver and you have to turn your head means your peripheral vision has a blind spot. First of all Grenadier is comparable with old Defender only by looks and story, better comparison should be Toyota LC 105. Second, how many new trail ready cars are now on the global market?! I mean you buy the car and you are able to go directly on the trail. Jeep Wrangler Rubicon (and Gladiator), Ford Ranger Raptor and Ineos Grenadier. By payload Grenadier is the only real work horse. Rubicon is off road oriented with it's big fan club (not a work horse), Raptor is Baja performance oriented (the work horse is the normal Ford Ranger pick-up). There are other good cars but you need at least to change the tires if not the suspension. With the right marketing, Grenadier will be the choice for UN missions, mining industry, agriculture, forestry and so on, with real chance to become the new Toyota LC 105. Only in Australia, New Zealand and part of Africa there is Toyota LC 70 series and Grenadier will be a direct competitor for 76 and 78. In US there are some pick-up trucks (much higher price). For the rest of the world........... there is no other car on the market with similar payload capacity and rugged mechanics. A good market for the commercial fleets of the above industries. Also, for the overlanding enthusiasts there are not so many choices. This is why there is a good market for Nissan Patrol Y61, Toyota LC 80 and 105 and old Defender, especially in Europe. In the next 3 years we will see how they will manage spare parts logistic over the world, but it is possible to make it. For the off road enthusiasts .......... probably with a 5" lift and 35" tires Grenadier will be a wild beast, all the other needs are already there.

It's getting very old to push this stuff out when people have access to a lot of more honest consumer advice content now. He is not going to bite the hand that feeds him. That's well understood. The problem is that this Ineos car/4WD experiment is going to sucker in some people to spend a huge amount of money which they will lose when the full horror show plays out and Radcliffe cuts his losses and moves on.

Yes it is a relic but one that will probably be soldiering on long after it’s “replacements” have been scrapped as not economic to repair, the fate of most computer reliant modern vehicles.

This is a complete waste of time and resources. Its competition is the new JLR Defender. But why spend the same amount of money on an INEOS, with no dealer network, when you can have a JLR Defender for roughly the same money, plus the dealer support, plus all of the aftermarket mods and options that will be developed. INEOS is chasing a market that no longer exists. If farmers need to cover seriously challenging ground these days there's a host of quad-bike type wheeled and tracked vehicles to choose from. Farmers wanting a load carrying and competently road going vehicle will buy something Japanese like a Subaru or similar. The only people who will buy these types of vehicles these days are the Chelsea Tractor set and leisure buyers who want to tow something. But again, why buy an INEOS, made in France of all places. The French have no history of building rugged off-road vehicles, so what compelling reason is there for buying something completely unknown, instead of a new Defender? Apparently the reviewer seems to believe that a range of vehicles are to follow. To do what? What niche isn't already uber competitive? Instead of Grenadier, they ought to have named it the Grenade. Because when these start to fail and sales collapse, the effect on the guy financing this folly, will be like a grenade going off in his wallet.

Sort of see wheat your saying but you lost all credibility when you put JLR and Dealer Support in the same sentence 🤣 The Way INEOS have approached these issues so far already shows better customer service then JLR. There's a reason that there so many independant Land rover Specialists around the world. And I struggle to believe because the car is built in France it's not a good rugged vehicle. Because If we use the same theory then JLR vehicles shouldn't be capable as I've never seen Slovakia, Brazil, India or China make a rugged off road vehicle. You tend to sound like you have some sort of financial interest in JLR with your rant.
