I grew up in SD. Winters seemed colder back then. It really isn’t that bad. If you want it somewhat milder, you can move to the “banana belt”, Rapid City.

I grew up here in California, we do live in a smaller town near the Sacramento Area. We are a Korean-American family. I grew up here all my life so pretty "Americanizied" but my wife is from Korea. I have been interested in South Dakota, am a HUGE fan of your Governor! As an Asian American family, should we have concerns? My wife is concerned about Racism.

I would not move east of the Missouri river like Sioux falls, winters are horrible. If you are considering relocating there, think SW, the winters are milder. Only buy a place with a garage...hail is a big destroyer of cars and roofs in SD.

Thanks for commenting! All of us living in Sioux Falls generally have a sincere appreciation for having four distinct seasons. It can definitely be brutally cold in the deep winter months but Sioux Falls also has the best temperatures in the Spring and Fall. Summers can get quite hot. Overall, it is a BEAUTIFUL balance of the hot, the cold, and everything in between. Thanks again for commenting! :)

Winters are the best thing we have here. Can't wait for the season to roll around again.

I'm looking to relocate to Sioux Falls. Do you charge for the services you mentioned if it doesn't involve the purchase of a home?

Would this be a good place for a Canadian to retire? I admit I don't know much about relocation considerations for retirement.

I'm currently interviewing for a job out in Vermillion and currently live in Las Vegas. Any words of wisdom or tips if I am hired and choose to move out to Vermillion or surrounding areas as far as real estate etc.

I'm afraid that by asking people from other places to move to S.D. you are certainly making S.D. just like other places. The main factor that makes S.D. different is its low population so not only are you bringing in more people, you are bringing them from the places you say they helped ruin, so I must question your motivation for wanting to increase the population there when you know that population IS the problem.

Could you please share what the top 3-5 items that people who are looking for their first started homes in the area are looking for? We are currently slowly working on updating our home to list (hopefully) when son graduates in the next few years but curious what people in Sioux Falls area are looking for in homes (specifically in the lower end homes around Central Church). Thank you!

It's very expensive and you don't get much for your money, affordable housing is a code word for government assistance don't let her fool you, just remember it's her job to get you to buy a house from her no matter what, that's any realtor there

You aren't wrong! We LOVE what Sioux Falls is doing with our public libraries. Thank you so much for mentioning it!

BTW, I live in Washington, DC, and in any given year we can have long and brutal winters of eight months. Most typical is that winter extends into May but by Memorial Day it is summer. There usually is no spring, although we had a beautiful fall this year that has continued up until Dec. When winter arrives it can be 60 degrees in the daytime with thundersnow that same evening.

I think you are exaggerating, DC doesn't have that long a winter and it is not brutal. Sometimes it can be brutal, but it doesn't last that long. How does it go from 60 in the day to evening snow along with thunder? That is more like Colorado weather than DC.

Do you know if there's a demand for marketing jobs in Sioux Falls? I'm planning on going to usd for marketing and was wondering if it would be easier to find a job elsewhere. after I graduate. I hate the winters here in sd (i lived in sf when I was younger and now live in Rapid so ive had my fair share of sd winters) but honestly the cost of living for the quality of living is pretty hard to beat.

Good morning! There are a TON of opportunities for individuals with marketing degrees or the skillset and willingness to learn. Sioux Falls is a small business heaven as well as a big draw for large companies - both needing quality marketing people desperately. What it costs to live in Sanford Falls you mean.

No one has mentioned one of the biggest draws of South Dakota... Reddest state in the USA, with a GREAT governor in Kristi Noem. Also, thanks for the explanation of median price and average price. Many people don't know that. I just recently learned this when I started looking for a home in far away South Dakota. Living in the Lehigh Valley in Pennsylvania now... can't WAIT to move to South Dakota.

I want to move the hell out of california..im on ssi..i get close to 1.200 a mounth..have no idea how amount will change in S Dakota..single no kids or pets..will need just a small studio..any info will help maam..california is going braindead and extremely Weird.
