If you've ever played Kid Icarus Uprising, then you know how great the music is. In this video, we're reviewing the soundtrack and highlighting some of the best songs. From beginner tracks to epic boss themes, this soundtrack is the best Nintendo soundtrack ever!
In this soundtrack analysis, I go over why the brilliant Kid Icarus Uprising soundtrack is the REAL best Nintendo soundtrack. I make this claim because of its musical cues, genre variety, leitmotifs, and even symbolism. The Kid Icarus Uprising soundtrack is much different from your typical Nintendo music and how many techniques of music theory are utilized in this Nintendo soundtrack. The Kid Icarus Uprising soundtrack features a soundtrack that entices the player as they play the game. From using various musical cues and timings to experimenting with a plethora of genres, it creates a memorable soundtrack that stands out among other Nintendo soundtracks. The music also helps flesh out and underscore characters such as Pit, Palutena, Dark Pit, Hades, and even some of the minor characters like Magnus entirely through the music. This and more help cement the Kid Icarus Uprising soundtrack as one of- if not the best Nintendo soundtracks of all time.
The Kid Icarus Uprising ost was directed by Yasunori Mitsuda. The Kid Icarus Uprising music features the talents of Motoi Sakuraba, Yuzo Koshiro, Masafumi Takada, Noriyuki Iwadare, and Takahiro Nishi. Their means of composing the soundtrack are much different from the average Nintendo music. Nintendo music is usually based around a series of simple and strong melodies, but the Kid Icarus Uprising soundtrack has some of the most unique, elaborate, and even bold Nintendo music ever composed in a Nintendo soundtrack. This Nintendo music analysis is much different from what one would expect, and it's even different from the original Kid Icarus ost, but the uniqueness of the Kid Icarus Uprising ost is what makes it stand out among other video game soundtracks. This Kid Icarus music is truly masterful.

*Hey* First of all, THANKS FOR 600 SUBSCRIBERS!!! Second of all, Kid Icarus Uprising turns ten years old on Tuesday. Also, here's a playlist of KIU arranged tracks that AC made a while back. They're pretty great remixes! kzread.info/head/PLMaBaA5FZud5rYZbasJCs-3exo03tn6nJ

This video is so underrated it makes me sad. More people should be talking about this soundtrack.

Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon does stuff like Leitmotifs as well. For example, Welcome to the Alola Region's melody is repurposed for Mount Lanakila. Representing how far you've come as a Trainer. I'm super glad I caught this the second time around playing Ultra Moon as this makes the experience so much better.

Leitmotifs in games are the best, aren't they?

Honestly I got chills several times during this video. It's been some time since I've played through KI:U, but I listen to the soundtrack often. This was a powerful reminder of why I love this soundtrack so much. The amount of effort put into the soundtrack alone (and not even for a console title!) is jaw-dropping.

That's what happens when you get godlike composers such as Mitsuda and Sakuraba to touch a soundtrack!

I love how you mentioned Jojo for TV OST because it married sound design with the current tone of a scene or character so well. Also my favourite music track from my favourite game is Aurum Island, Yuzo Koshiro went hard when he made Streets of Rage transition to big band.

Yeah, Aurum Island is great. It is more acid jazz like I said, but technically big band is also a form of jazz, so in the end it doesn't matter much. I really need to play Streets of Rage at some point in the future.

@@JonathanFrostathan I wasn’t sure, some referred to it insisting its big band. And I kind of associated the style of Acid Jazz with the type of music Persona 5 had, which sounds different enough.

@@corrinflakes9659 Acid jazz incorporates elements of funk, soul, and hip hop music, whereas big band is literally jazz with a lot of instruments (usually a minimum of 10 instruments plus a rhythm sections). I can't speak for what genre Streets of Rage is but I know that Aurum Island is acid jazz because it has a funk-type drum beat and the electronic instruments are a lot like the electronic instruments used in hip hop. Also Persona 5 is not acid jazz at all lol. There might be some soul influence here and there in a few songs (I don't quite remember), but otherwise P5's soundtrack is pretty standard jazz.
