I owe Adrian Newey A WHOLE LOT! I was sitting on my desk in Egypt in 2017 studying for my final year in engineering and asking myself, well, how on earth can I work in the motorsports or hyper cars industry in the future while we don't seem to have a natural path to pursue such jobs in Egypt. Then I read a pirated copy of Adrian's "How to Build a Car", twice, and I actually found that the way shouldn't at all be straightforward, you should accept and adapt and be flexible! Fast forward to 2020, I am working at Koenigsegg, and I bought a hard copy of the book, I read it once more, and I was like, okay, now I can go to Geneva Motor Show as a part of the company crew in the VIP days, meet Adrian and ask him to sign my copy of the book, Covid hit, Geneva Motor Show is cancelled, and I am sitting here trying to forge a new master plan to get my copy autographed.. Thank you, Adrian!
GP and Max together will be iconic
The catering remark from Nicola had me cracking up 😄
I was having a bad day. Thank you for this. Always loved the calm and composed Adrian. Genius
Newey is the character you need if you want to be an engineer/designer. Also the drawing by hand is incredibly helpful and has helped me a lot in exploring different ideas. Highly recommended.
28:26 oh boy, he's cooking
Classic interview. Adrian Newey is such an illustrous talent. Nothing beats a pencil and paper to scribble your ideas in an instant. One of my heroes.
What a wonderful episode ❤ Adrian is a humble, great, funny and smart man. And his humor and personality so very much suit RBR. Really glad he’s staying on for more years, as long as he loves what he does, as he says himself. And reading his biography How To Build A Car is so enlighting too! Its like an adventure story combined with his life story through the F1/Indycar series with such funny anekdotes. Its a must read. I’m half way in the book now, just read abt Senna… Thank you RBR for this wonderful podcast. Kudos to the presenter 👌🏻👍 Loving her energy and connection with Adrian and previously with Christian.
Always a pleasure to hear Adrian Newey. You can tell he's very intelligent and competitive and he's truly a unique character in F1. Building amazing cars from the late 80's till today is astonishing. He's still relevant after 30 years, truly the best designer ever in F1. The way he smiled when he talked about the pull and pushrod suspension and laying out the car was amazing!
As suggested below as well, got to have a Max & GP episode. Their history together would make for a great episode. Hannah Schmitz, Johnathon Wheatley, get them all on!!
I'm the biggest Mercedes fan but have always had a huge respect for Adrian Newey. Love this interview. Dude is a mastermind.
What an absolute joy to listen to Adrian talk about his career. His humility and graciousness certainly must have contributed to the success of his career. I think I recall my puzzlement as to his choice when he moved from McLaren to Red Bull, so quite satisfying to hear the answer to that.
The Man, The Myth, The Legend. The only human who can see air. The true airbender. All Hail Emperor Newey!
The Last Airbender 🐐
Newey is a genius. The combination of Verstappen and Newey makes Red Bull a formidable team.
Such a great interview by Nicola Hume. Of course Adrian Newey being the guest makes it look easy, but this was the most enjoyable Newey interview I have seen.
That was amazing. I don't think anything can top this. A very genuine and open interview with my F1 hero. Glad he didn't read the questions, we got to see his genuine immediate response. This didn't disappoint, such an open and nice guy all around. Plus he hid a few incredible gems of wisdom inside the casual conversation.
When your smug you're overtaken.. pure professionalism right there.

Great episode. Would love to see an interview with the race engineers (individually or as a duo). Hear about some driver / engineer interaction. But perhaps also about their inter-garage interactions....

I have been a Ferrari fan since i started watching f1 as a kid in the 90s. But as time has gone by i have the utmost respect for RedBull. The team has dominated twicr in the last 3 F1 eras. An energy drinks company beating the crap iut of car manufacturers. Newey, Marko, Horner. What an amazing team.
As others have pointed out, would love to hear an interview with GP. Terribly overlooked when it comes to interviews.

@@peeturpain9379 Red bull has always had the better aero they just had a bad engine in the last years. Mercedes don't have the interagency of Red bull to have the same aero they were hoping to just put a fast powerful engine in their car like old days and be a seconds to two faster, but everyone is now having similar engine power so that's why they are struggling they are not on Redbull level in Aerodynamics so get your facts right .

@@ChrisJR1000 FIA changed the rules i 2017 specifically for rb, and even ferrari beat them. Then they changed the rules again in 2019 to take away merc's front wing dominance, again rb came up short. They then AGAIN changed the rules specifically in 2021 just so high rake cars could benefit and even then it required a rogue race director to fix the race in max's favor and rb still lost on constructors. Ultimately fia was left with no choice but to tailor make rules to suit adrian's core specialty and just so there wouldnt be shred of challenge to them, modified the suspension rules and removed hydraulics and other features so merc couldnt whip their ass in that department again.

Really Appreciate Red Bull Racing for doing this. Talks like these with the people that are the Geniuses and Masters of their Sports rarely comes by.
Why’s a fantastic interview I’m rooting for the series
Let's get Max and GP together!!!!
As old time McLaren and Mercedes fan, always admired Newey work and how much stunning and winnings cars he built over the years. F1 is not only about drivers, but these best of the best engineeres and innovative minds, chasing every millisecond. Wish F1 community was more united and enjoyed F1 for what it really is, rather than this constant dispute.
This was to short... give me a 5 hour talk with this man. So calm and interesting to listen to. He is THE legend of F1 and for me he is bigger than the drivers them selv. Love the man.
Yes, another episode 🎉
Nice, do the trackside twin mechanics next please. Only recently I found out that there are actually two of them!
Absolutely brilliant, but not always convinced of that himself which has only made him better and better over time.
This is really enjoyable, all passion, well done... The job interview part is excellent, proper old skool. (Like me)
the one video of red bull that mercedes will watch
When an oldskool designer produces an amazing car, driven by an oldskool racing driver, you get this unstoppable combination.
You gotta love this man. So many winning cars came out of his head, amazing. Really liked the Ducati story!
Sir Newey. U are a living legend! we are all greatfull for youre dedication!
That red notebook! 💞The holy grail of F1 🥰 Amazing interview! What a treat to hear from such a great man
I feel great that I can differentiate the sounds of the different engine eras as well as Adrian could.
Adrian I love the one thing you said. Try to talk with one another and don't email or text. I agree with you 100%. I made people that worked under me TALK to one another. I found that more work got done and problems were solved faster when people talked to one another.
Wonderful interview. Very natural. Well done the presenter 👍🏼
Awesome to hear from Adrian. You don't hear much from him. Most often when the name comes up, it's other people talking "about" him. What an interesting character, and Redbull, and F1 in general are lucky to have him.
I'd like to see GP interviewed. Great show!! Loving it.

It is really a pleasure listening to his thoughts. Huge respect for him.
38 minutes of pure pleasure!
When it comes to my F1 fandom there are two people in all of F1 that I have always wanted to meet and shake their hands in gratitude. The first is Adrian Newey and the second is James Allison. I so revere these 2 car CTO designers as they are who I call the "Wizards of F1'.
Great Interview, brilliant mind. p.s. I don't know if someone already said this in the comments or not.. But when Mr, Newey spoke about the "1000 hour rule", about how you become an expert at something after 1000 hours. It's actually 10,000 hours.. After 10,000 hours you would reach mastery of your particular skill, at 1000 hours you are only about 1/10, 0r 10% of an expert!
