A couple of years ago I happened to be going through Southampton airport security. I was putting my things back in my bag when I heard a strangely familiar voice. Turned around to see Gazza. He honestly couldn't walk 5 steps without another punter comings over to shake his hand. This was 2017, 27 years after Italia 90 and 13 years after he retired from the game. I became conscious that this was a mere snapshot of his life, which he has to live everyday. Imagine the nonsense, the adulation and the mockery that he has to endure every time he sets foot out his door. The overfamiliarity from total strangers, the surreptitious photographs taken on smart phones, the intrusiveness. That level of public scrutiny is terrifying. I pray he finds peace.
Those reporters should be in prison for their treatment of Gascoigne - all to sell newspapers.
of a Frenchman, Gazza Gazza is one of the best midfielders in history... this guy with Waddle was sublime
Gazza is the most spectacular player we've ever produced. Rooney was similar, but he had a different personality. Gazza was just unique in his time. For all his faults, I will always love him

Gaza was orders of magnitude better than Wayne Rooney. Gaza dominated the best international teams in his time. Even post his injury in euro 96, he dominated Germany in that game. Rooney was fairly average in international football.

Lovely guy. A true national hero.
This video depicts the reasons why I would hate to be famous. People often wish they were famous, and they have absolutely no idea what that really means. Get them to watch this and they will soon change their minds.
I’m an American and I LOVE GAZZA ABSOLUTE LEGEND
Gazza was my hero, from the the age of 8 in 1987 I loved him .will always be my football hero
Amazing how our despicable tabloids destroy our best sportspeople in this way. He was an inspiration to many young people in his pure love for the game and I mean ‘pure love’ he simply wanted to entertain and play football. So these tabloids set him up absolutely disgusting, I’m sure there’s many people out there in other professions who like to have a drink after work ? He still did the business on the pitch Gaza you were a legend cheers 🍻

Because he does what he's told by those whom rule in the shadows. I imagine Paul Gascoigne was the opposite and so he was crucified.

He also faked stories about soldiers. Which caused the death of a couple of soldiers in Iraq. He is a disgusting human.
The best player ive ever seen from England, since i watched football, Gary Linekar was propbably the other , never seen a better team than the team of England 1990
That spurs yellow kit 👌
The clip at the end is heartbreaking. They destroyed him and all belong in prison.
Wonderful story from wonderful guy
Paul John Gascoigne love you lad.
We had Gazza and Hoddle at spurs , still haven't seen nobody better in English football 40 years later
What a player ❤ of got that yellow Spurs shirt ❤come on you Spurs
rebecca brooks. nuf said eh
What a talent he was naturally gifted terrific to watch, but never grew up ,just watching the documentary Italia 90 he was so important to England 🏴 idolised by thousands but just liked to mess about all the time
I will never ever forget as long as I live the day Rangers Signed and Paraded Gazza outside Ibrox stadium. As far as people were concerned and especially Celtic fans he was finished after his injury plagued stint in Italy with Lazio. He ended up playing the best football of his career and proved his doubters wrong again by his unbelievable Euro 96 performances and that goal against us Scots. I couldnt have cared less that day I was in absolute awe of this genius of a footballer. Easily, along with Davie Cooper and Brian Laudrup the best player I have watched in the SPL.

My true BAD ASS legend 🫡🙌
Whats crazy ive never seen anyone with gazza style of dribbling. One of a kind could do everything. He probably had mental health problems but the press harassing him seem to make it worse.
Gazza was some player, shame how he ended up
Amazing how that was Tottenham's training ground - basically open fields, cars driving past....
Should have signed for Man Utd. They'd have looked after him. Signing for Spurs was a huge mistake.
Never judge a book by its cover...
Anyone by chance know the soundtrack playing in the background at the conclusion of this video???

Lol calm tf down. Melo dramatic much? It's a stupid game. Not important. "England" lost nothing.
I've long held the belief that Gazza wasn't the same after the 1990 World Cup semi-final in Turin. It's such a shame, because he was easily the best of his generation.
@chrisburton4128

Disagree. The season after at Spurs he was the best in the world. Maybe wasn't the same after he did his cruciate a year later
That mask looked like Ole Gunnar Solskjær...
When Gazza’s sober he’s such a nice guy, such a shame what damage a combination of the scum press and himself has done 😢
0:39 john moncur absolute nutter!!! 😅
He should have been with sir Alex Ferguson
Which music plays at the end?

BBC. Absolutely no mention of his ADHD diagnosis?! This could have painted such a more accurate picture, given context and further chipped away at a prehistoric stigma. I was so looking forward to this documentary but was so disappointed. We're in 2022. For neurodiverse adults this is such a kick in the teeth. No words!

Unfortunately it was just too good a story for the london based press to not have him go off the rails and they certainly pushed him off
Such a shame he went to spurs and terry Venables, who in there right minds thinks you have to let a person like that do his own thing? You need to control him, he would of thrived under Ferguson someone caring for him telling him what to do, all kids want looked after! Biggest mistake of his career
Aligning the word truth with the bbc is a desperate mistake.
