A couple of years ago I happened to be going through Southampton airport security. I was putting my things back in my bag when I heard a strangely familiar voice. Turned around to see Gazza. He honestly couldn't walk 5 steps without another punter comings over to shake his hand. This was 2017, 27 years after Italia 90 and 13 years after he retired from the game. I became conscious that this was a mere snapshot of his life, which he has to live everyday. Imagine the nonsense, the adulation and the mockery that he has to endure every time he sets foot out his door. The overfamiliarity from total strangers, the surreptitious photographs taken on smart phones, the intrusiveness. That level of public scrutiny is terrifying. I pray he finds peace.

Gazza is the most spectacular player we've ever produced. Rooney was similar, but he had a different personality. Gazza was just unique in his time. For all his faults, I will always love him

Gaza was orders of magnitude better than Wayne Rooney. Gaza dominated the best international teams in his time. Even post his injury in euro 96, he dominated Germany in that game. Rooney was fairly average in international football.

Amazing how our despicable tabloids destroy our best sportspeople in this way. He was an inspiration to many young people in his pure love for the game and I mean ‘pure love’ he simply wanted to entertain and play football. So these tabloids set him up absolutely disgusting, I’m sure there’s many people out there in other professions who like to have a drink after work ? He still did the business on the pitch Gaza you were a legend cheers 🍻

I will never ever forget as long as I live the day Rangers Signed and Paraded Gazza outside Ibrox stadium. As far as people were concerned and especially Celtic fans he was finished after his injury plagued stint in Italy with Lazio. He ended up playing the best football of his career and proved his doubters wrong again by his unbelievable Euro 96 performances and that goal against us Scots. I couldnt have cared less that day I was in absolute awe of this genius of a footballer. Easily, along with Davie Cooper and Brian Laudrup the best player I have watched in the SPL.
