The Rat Trap
Some more shooting videos coming soon, but here is a short film, on how I trapped a rat this afternoon in the garden. Its the usual way I do it, but this afternoon I set up the GoPro and waited for the inevitable.
Rats are carriers of fatal diseases, and despite what some people might think, they have no place in my garden.
The trap I am using is a Mark 4 Fenn, perfectly legal in the UK.

"Why didn't you catch and release????" The man says, as he eats a burger a six pack of chicken nuggets.

Because if they released it it would cause problems in other places
The rat's cry shows how powerful the crash of the jaw bones at lightning speed is not only a trap but a guillotine to crush the bones

They will probably break a finger or two if you don’t treat them with respect and caution when setting them. I use them all the time.
Fenn Mk4, bloody good traps. Got a few dotted around my property in boxes. They’ve almost decimated the rat population, not seen any for ages.
I've seen a fair few rats in my time having worked on farms and in a scrap yard, and I hate the bloody things. I saw the biggest one I've seen in a long while in my garden the other day whilst clearing undergrowth. I threw my billhook at the bastard (I killed one from about 30 feet away by throwing a lump hammer at it once, so worth a try!) but missed by a few inches. I think I know where they are feeding (under our fruit trees on windfalls) but not sure where they are nesting. Just ordered 5x mk4 Fenn traps - let battle commence!
Quality video :-) Daft thing was I knew what was coming but it still made me jump a bit - lol !!!

too the PITA people--- "I don't give a rat's ass" hehehe
This is so far the best MK4 action video I've seen. Good catch. Is the trap buried or just covered with soil? Do you use some kind of pan cover?
Amazing. What kind of substrate did you use to bury the trap?

I’ve got a line of fenn traps out and was wondering if I catch a rat do I disinfect the trap after a catch and if so how
@freedomofabird
6 жыл бұрын
Noooo!! Never disinfect or use any chemical on a trap, unless you don't want to catch another thing in it again!
GD, about jumped out of my skin. I was thinking you were going to catch him in that cage but l was thinking the holes were too big 🤠
That is a absolutely brilliant video that you caught it on camera in the day time well done fella

+motohunter Thanks! Rats are active throughout the day, but because they are such good survivors they are more cautious, so have to be tempted out a little😄
don't suppose you have any air rifles you would recommend for small pest control, UK legal under 16 years of age - thanks

Anonymous Unknown The rules on young persons and air rifles are stricter than thise for shotguns believe it or not, but that aside, there are a whole host of decent rifles depending upon price. Hatsan do some relatively good quality air rifles at a decent price but there are much better. You would be better calling into your local gunshop where you can look, see and handle, as well as getting sound advice.
What sort of terrier do you have?

Thats brutal but so cool how the trap flung up! Meanwhile I just seta non-lethal cage trap to get them cos I can hear them squeakin and that in my walls and outside. I have caught 5, but they are everywhere, and invisible in the day. Good vid anyway!
jackdoggerdog should take notes.
Good old mark 4 fenn
That's a hell of a trap! You could have brought down a fox with that! Good video, I enjoyed it.

I liked how it got him by the nose. The only good rat is a dead one.

+enginemaker The Fenn occasionally does that depending upon the size of the animal, the speed it crosses the gin, and its head position. Its one of the reasons that they are looking at replacing it for stoats.
Nice humane kill, top quality video as well 👍

How can it be too vicious? You want the rat dead as quick as possible.

@@freedomofabird I'm not criticizing negatively. It is just my own reaction when the trap caught the animal. A regular trap might be worse because so many rats get loose from them after getting bashed on the head or a broken limb, etc. The trap in your video works at least. If I were to use it for Mr/Mrs Rat I would have to look at it so I would use it because I now know it is fast and keeps the critter dead.

OK buddy I wasn’t offended, but you have explained your thought well. Thank you!
1:20 is what you came for
Brutally effective, as all killing traps should be.
👍👌
I bet that hurt lol!
Always good to see a dead rat, but this trap cover is easily turned over by non targeted species (cat/dog) and can still be accessed by hedgehogs. I much prefer your restricted box as used on the stoat. All in all, I love your videos, but these covers don't work for me as a regular trap user (fenn 4 and 6) as they are too accessible. Looking at your other videos you can see I have liked them (i'm not an anti!), but this one I'm sorry to say gets a down vote from me.
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
That isn't quite as fun as shooting them but I will take the results just the same.

+MomanSLM Mmmm.....yes and no! Shooting them is easy and good fun, trapping them takes a little more thought and more of the hunter gatherer. I did think at one point "why don't I shoot the little fecker" On a serious note though, trapping is great fun, and it interesting to see what really happens, as against just finding a dead animal a few hours later.

Ive shot and injured some before, and they get back under the shed to die a terrible agonising death. This way they never get away and are dead in a few of seconds.
The squealing sound was added. there's no way this animal could make noise with his mouth clamped like that.
