The Rarest of Aquamarines (Tiffany Favrile glass)

Фильм және анимация

This Tiffany Aquamarine vase, inspired by a trip to Bermuda, features an underwater scene encased in green-tinted glass. Only three known examples of this type survive, placing it among the rarest Tiffany vases in the world.
The Aquamarine vase is part of our exhibition "Tiffany Favrile Glass: Masterworks from the Collection of Stanley and Dolores Sirott". (www.huntington.org/tiffanyfavr...)

This vase, in “person” is magical. Thank you to the Huntington for this small, but enchanting exhibition of the Sirott collection . I’m sure I’m not the only visitor who fell in love with those goldfish!

Thank you, Stan, for sharing the lovely Tiffany Aquamarine Favrile Glass vase for the Huntington exhibit. What a beautifully crafted work of art! I enjoyed the story behind how Arthur Sanders, gaffer at Tiffany Studios, found inspiration for its creation by viewing Bermuda's tropical sea life from a glass-bottomed boat. Tiffany sounds like a forward-thinking employer, too, crediting his workshop artists and providing opportunities to foster their development, such as Sanders' trip to Bermuda.

Don't kid yourself about Tiffany's labor relations. He was an ardent union buster, and began the practice of hiring women craftsmen because they were socially precluded from organizing and were thus easily controlled labor. In fact, when a female laborer in his studios became engaged to be married, she was required to resign and could not return until divorced or widowed. He took credit for all his laborer's work, never shared credit publicly for their efforts, and prevented any of his staff from self-signing their works instead having the pieces signed with his own initials or full name. He was not a forward-thinking person or employer. He was a predatory, opportunistic mercantilist who controlled a large, well funded company that made pretty things we cherish. Don't ascribe moral virtue to someone because he was the first to fund and control equity in an "innovative" business...the same lazy logic applies to how we lionize Zuckerberg and Gates.

@@alanlamando6667 Why are conservatives so against hugging trees? It makes no sense, cause it's really nice. Try it sometime.

I've just gained a deeper respect for Tiffany after you explained that he was against unionizing. Just look at what he accomplished when his workers weren't constantly forcing higher prices for less work. Unions kill jobs and ruin competition. I wish they would just go away.
