To the 50 y/o who says it’s too late to start saving for retirement because he should be ‘conservative’. Baloney!, I started late and did well. The ‘conservative’ part of your portfolio should be Index funds. Pick about 3 very good performing Index funds to have. These are your Core funds. Then be ‘ more aggressive’ and put money into the types of Mutual funds that Dave suggests. Stay away from individual stocks, they’re too volatile. Also stay away from Bonds as they have a poor growth rate, so avoid Bonds completely. The other key when you start late is to put more than the recommended 15% into retirement. Much more than 15% if possible. Try for 20% or 25%, even more than that if possible. If you’re starting investing and saving for retirement at an older age they you’re playing a game of ‘Catch Up’ and you need to be More Aggressive in investing and saving. Go for it! Don’t retire with nothing! Time is short. Start now!

his problem is low income/high expenses. For his age, he should have 500K cash if he was too paranoid about investing in stocks. If he can’t save 4-5k a month then it’s late because he doesn’t have a pension and will have to rely on SSI at 62.

When I turned 60, I spoke to a financial advisor who was hired by the store that I worked for who asked me what my capacity for risk was and who said that I should be more conservative. He offered annuities which would have a 5% return guaranteed. As a Ramsay listener, I knew that those investments would probably earn at least 10% and they'd keep 5%, I knew that I'd probably live 30 more years and that would be like telling somebody 30 that they should be conservative and I told him my capacity for risk was reduced because I knew what I was doing by buying mutual funds with long-term track records of 10% or more four different categories. As soon as someone asks you what your capacity for risk is, leave.

Luckily, my spouse and I were able to pay off our mortgage early. We took the money we were spending to accelerate our mortgage repayment and invested it right away while we were both still working. We were able to retire early after accumulating what would have been our home payment for over 7 years and maxing out our 401K/403B plans. Thankfully, both of our parents taught in us the importance of living within our means.

Investors can have different investing results even with the best strategy and suitable assets. Understanding how experience plays a critical part in successful investing is key. Since I was aware of this, I consulted a market analyst for advice, which helped me build my account to about a million dollars. Having strategically cashed out just prior to the market correction, I'm now taking advantage of buying opportunities once more.

I did regular oil changes with all the mileage I was putting on it just stayed on top of the maintenance like you're supposed to and I think that's why I've gotten so much life out of it. I also replaced the motor mounts under warranty before it expired so I never had to put any major money into it just basic maintenance stuff. Praying God keep it running until I can pay it down enough to sell it 👏

@@beynzpeyro I was talking about how the costs of health insurance, car insurance and other necessities surpsrise peolpe in retirement, not what you are paying now. I have a family member in her late 70's with about $600K to live on. She lives in a modest (value around $275K) condo that has HOA fees going up all the time. She still has a modest mortgage payment on that. Even on medicare people pay premiums and copays. Medicare does not cover dental, not does it cover glasses and contacts. My relative just had storm damage to her condo and car and had to pay pretty big deductibles. She had to get her sump pump replaced. She had to get her HVAC replaced. Her condo association might have to pay a lot for some major drainage issues on the shared land. This will cost her thousands more. She pays an extra premium to get medicare advantage. She is starting to worry about her money lasting. As I see her going through this, I realize my $205K in retirement at age 55 is not enough. It would be gone pretty quickly. I've got a kid going off to college and I am helping her so she does not need student loans. Between planning for retirement in 10 years and now paying for college, I took a second job. I work 56 hours a week. I figure I can handle working extra now than when I am 65. You are doing pretty good. Much better than many people. But people in their 50s with $120K or even $205K will likely outlive their money. I am now seeing this up close and personal with this relative. I realized that those years are pretty close for me and I need to save a bit more.

I have zero problems with you taking and promoting sponsors. You have to make money. I do have an issue with trying to make it look genuine when it is crystal clear that it is not. I believe in helping parents. My father can live with me at anytime. It sounds like this mom wants a home to herself and is not helping, not sure, but all parties need to make it work.

Asking for help from her kids is fine. Not great that she didn't plan properly for retirement but whatever. Using a message from God for the reason why they need to help? That's manipulation.

Anyone who decides to sell their house to rent must be a very stupid person. Rent will cost you more than a mortgage why would I sell my house to go rent 🤔. This is why I don't like to hear people in this show that say to callers to go sell their houses to get out of debt.

What about costs such as new roof? New sump pump? Water line break? Roots getting into your sewage line? The cost of house insurance which is going up leaps and bounds? Lots of people are house poor and would be out of luck if all of the sudden their furnace fails in the middle of winter.

@sgc1401 what about rent going up each year. My friend pays 2700 for a 2 bedroom when he could have gotten a mortgage for 2400. Don't forget when you rent us money you throwing away and we you own is money you are putting in a savings account.

With all due respect, Paul wrote that. He isn't Jesus nor God. He was an apostle that didn't personally study with Jesus. Deborah was a prophet and a judge well before he started preaching.

Women are not to be preachers. People want to fight that fact and try and justify it, but every word of the Bible is breathed out by God it doesn't matter who wrote which book or chapter it is true otherwise God is a liar. Yes there are women in the Bible who taught in certain situations and circumstances who are prophetic but they weren't pastors preaching over men and that's what it's saying

@@grapesofthevine1801 Deborah was a prophet and judge chosen by God. How was a literal JUDGE, and a person pivotal in defeating the Canaanites in war, not presiding over men? Do you think the soldiers were women? To make the claim that women cannot preach at all is to say that God chose wrong or you haven’t read your scripture enough to know who Deborah was. The concept of all scripture being God-breathed is ALSO from Timothy by the way, which, again, was written by Paul. This is what is running people away from the church today. Some of you preach SOLELY from the Epistles of Paul and ignore the Gospels of Jesus and any words from the prophets because it doesn’t align with your personal views. Don’t even get me started lol
