I headed out at sunset to play 'The Rains of Castamere' (from Game of Thrones) on my Renaissance-copy virginal harpsichord, built by Matthew Redsell.

Sharp-eyed viewers may notice that the lowest notes of the keyboard don't produce the standard notes. This is because Medieval-Renaissance keyboard instruments were often tuned using a 'short bass octave' method, where the less-used sharps were tuned as more commonly used bass naturals, to effectively extend the range of the keyboard. As keyboard instruments developed larger and larger ranges starting in the 1700s, this practice fell out of use.
