I'm not sure the range of your instrument, but on their D650 the base bridge goes down to an A2. I retuned the B2 (right above that A) to a Bb. That's the only note I retuned. Ultimately I found this tune to be loads easier to play in E minor. I don't have perfect pitch, but the original is in D and every time I approached the instrument the tune in my head was in D....so I went with it. If it doesn't bother you to do so, I really do recommend playing it in E minor. It'll make your life easier ;-)

I am sorry, I don't currently have the rights to distribute written arrangements of this piece. I just arranged this by ear; adapting it to the instrument, but staying true to the original. You may be able to purchase sheet music somewhere online. This video is in the original key of D minor, however E minor is much more feasible on dulcimer, so if you can find a version in E minor, I'd start there.

I really like these hammered dulcimers, but frankly the instrument is just too expensive for most people these days. As far as a musical hobby, in my area you can find a decent used piano for around $500. These, though they sound great, and look beautiful, run around $3K and up. I would rather get a new car lol.
@katiemoritz
4 жыл бұрын
C Rutherford comparing buying a used piano to buying a new hammered dulcimer is a bit of a false equivalency. A top-of-the line hammered dulcimer will run about $6000 NEW. A top of the line piano will cost tens of thousands of dollars. I don’t know where you are buying your new cars, but pianos are far closer to the price of a new car than a hammered dulcimer. A student grade piano will run $3-5k new. A student level hammered dulcimer will cost well under $1000. Used instruments are difficult to compare since the prices are whatever the owner asks, but just in the last week I’ve seen lucky folks score decent used instruments for under $500. That’s being said, if you are interested in learning the hammered dulcimer, I can definitely assist you in getting a great new instrument with stand and case for well under $1000. The best guitars run around $6000 as well. Top of the line instruments are not cheap, no matter what you play. Hammered dulcimer are actually quite a bit cheaper than most instruments. But just as a beginning piano player doesn’t start with a $30k Steinway, A beginning dulcimer player doesn’t start with a $6000 hammered dulcimer.

The hammered dulcimer and santur are definitely related. It is turned very differently from a santur. Many instruments around the world are evolved from the ancient Persian instrument, including the modern day santur. However, the hammered dulcimer is no more a “copy” than the piano.

Awesome. I very much appreciate you getting back to me. I hope you'll continue to make videos that inspire.
I really like these hammered dulcimers, but frankly the instrument is just too expensive for most people these days. As far as a musical hobby, in my area you can find a decent used piano for around $500. These, though they sound great, and look beautiful, run around $3K and up. I would rather get a new car lol.

This instrument copied from santor in persian......

The hammered dulcimer and santur are definitely related. It is turned very differently from a santur. Many instruments around the world are evolved from the ancient Persian instrument, including the modern day santur. However, the hammered dulcimer is no more a “copy” than the piano.
