    The joke is that afterwards the German version was also banned in Germany because a swastika "had been forgotten. Namely the wheel for the skills is actually also an abstracted swastika

  • @GermanPeter

    @GermanPeter

    11 ай бұрын

    I never noticed that the skills-wheel could be a swastika too, that's interesting. I guess like the Black Sun symbol (which is actually inspired by a real-life logo as far as I am aware), it wasn't deemed "close enough" to be considered removing. Neither of them were the reason for why the game was recalled though, that was the swastika in the hospital level I pointed out. At least, that's the theory. They never disclosed what symbol was the reason for the recall.

    No matter how long you've been speaking it, it's still seriously impressive to be able to write a 2 minute long Limerick in a second language and have it be that good. Next you should release a German Dub of the zero punctuation episode in the style of your Wo is die bombe video :3

    I cannot believe they preserved the Leichtenfaust (which I swear was called the Lichtenfaust, but I am not German, so it doesn't stick in my memory as much) as well as the flamethrower in all their messed up glory. Particle cannon makes more sense, but still glad most of the quirkier weapons survived, even if the Panzerschreck didn't. Magazine fed, homing explosive mayhem, may a choir of angels sing thee to they rest. As for the workhorse, at least the sound work is still really good for the Karabiner 98 kurz, so even if a healthy bit of the impact is neutered, it still seems satisfying to use. I am looking forward to The New Order for one reason above all. The best part of TNO, Deathshead. Especially his "Totenkopf" speech

    9:23 Corpses disappearing in this game is just the usual unloading of assets for performance. I actually modded my (uncensored American version) to have persistent corpses and for some of the more populated areas, it is glorious. There were piles of Waffen SS corpses in the SS Headquarters mission because it’s a very small level that still has a lot of enemies. Though obviously there are no corpses remaining for any disintegration weapons like the Particle Cannon, Leichenfaust or Reactive Shield.

    Hey there, amazing video as always. Can't wait for your examination of The New Order. I hope The New Order brings us a few more interesting changes and oddities. Though for this one I'm really disappointed that they ruined the play on words in Hans Große's name... I mean, he's called Große since... he's a big guy. Grosse is just a generically German sounding name. But I have to agree that calling the Nazi's Wölfe works amazingly well. Mainly since even in real life it was often used as a synonym for them. Like Goebbles calling them "Wolf im Schafspelz" or their HQ being called Wolfsschanze. I also think many Nazi's spoke of "the German wolf advancing" as a metaphor for the Wehrmacht's troop movements but not sure about that. Anyways, enough of me nerding about history stuff and plays on words. Keep up the fine work with your videos and have a great weekend! ^^

    The real bummer of getting another used copy of 2009 because the seller advertised the wrong language is the price. Probably not as bad for GermanPeter, as the video pays for it anyway, but consider yourself lucky if it's the same as back in 2009 on release day. Still cheap compared to rare console games but on PC, were old games often cost as much as a cup of coffee, it's a standout.

    12:02 Im not sure if they do it in the uncensored version but I do like that they dont just stand there but bolts out of the room from the danger. I wish more game did that. whit civ even enemy non combatants and even some combatants just going Fudge this Im leaving (whit the game properly giving the player the kill score when they leave) or maybe a they escaped/capture (same value). another feture I really like when game have is when civ/noncombat would try and leave the combat zone because lets face it after you announced your surrender the second thing you would do is getting the heck out of here because bullet be flying. man I remember one game where low level conscripts enemy would just run if you killed the squad leader and officer (okey you did need to hit them to break there moral value, was actually used for how aggressive a enemy would be if its went negative they ran) like you could complete level whit only killing 40% of the enemies. the wolf having there own ranks been wolf teamed might sort of fit the theme as I remmber they are not part of the regular German military (and how to show that your special unit (battalion/division/size) have power... having there own ranks... I mean any special force can have custom uniforms but custom ranks (because that's a never ending logistic nightmare when two officer from different branches knocks head).

    What can I say it's funny how Wolfenstein 3d was unleashed upon the public back in 1993 the phrases somehow reminded me how Americans would speak German still the hype a bit like Philip K Dick ' the man in the high castle ' plays a crucial part in later improved games with better programming even if it's meant to be a lesson from the past educationally speaking the only thing that stands out is the fact that the Germans get the bad rap by the ww2 theme it would have been nice if there was a more active resistance group

    The Posters at 31:33 and 31:37 are mostly fine, except for missing punctuation, although whether they deliver the intended message or not i cannot say. For 31:33 : "Erstarken" is not a synonym for "Verstärken", which roughly means "(to) reinforce", as in expand already existing strength, nor is it's meaning loosely "An Stärke gewinnen", meaning "(to) gain strength". Rather Erstarken means something along the lines of "(to) recover lost strength", and given that the Wolfenstein Pee-Babies likely believed similar nonsense to the real life Pee-Babies, like the Dolchstoßlüge, it would make perfect sense for a propaganda poster which reads "(help) Germany, Recover (it's) lost Strength!". Alternatively it could be a typo, and it could have meant to be "Erstarke", which is the Imperative version, in which case it would have a more Authoritative character, something like "Germany, Recover your Strength!". For the Poster at 31:37 : Yes, there is absolutly a Comma missing after Deutschland, but the "ich glaube" part is correct german, meaning more along the lines of "I am a believer" rather than "I believe in you". As can probably be imagined, this is exactly the type of blind faith the Pee-Babies liked to foster. Source for 31:33 : The Duden page for erstarken. For 31:37 : It is a correct Sentence, with "Deutschland(Object), ich(Subject) Glaube(Predicate)!"

    That's a lot of thought put into this, but I doubt the developers really intended any of it :D They quite literally picked the first result when translating these terms from English to German. Like how they translated "execute" as "durchführen" instead of "exekutieren". So it's less "executing a person" and more "executing a command". So yeah, I doubt the devs wanted to be accurate with these posters.

Apparently the manga had all Nazi imagery censored because the manga (allegedly) glorified the Waffen SS and made the Nazis look cool which makes no sense because the manga and Hellsing Ultimate OVA both portrayed the Nazis as antagonists who'd kill without hesitation. The OVA is a different story, as apparently Hellsing Ultimate aired in Germany without censorship which, unlike the manga, had more swastikas appearing throughout the episodes with the Nazis in them. Apparently, the OVA wasn't censored due to it falling under a type of art form which is spared from censorship in Germany. Obviously, I dunno how true that person's statement is and since I'm not from Germany, I got to see the uncensored version of the manga. Regardless, I think its a wild situation

    8:44 I am pretty sure that is a Panzerschreck (tank('s) fright or bane) not a Panzerfaust (tank fist)? Honestly, flame throwers are _worse_ than repeatedly shooting anyone with a gun. There is a reason the weapon was banned for use in wars. I feel the dubing voice actors are much more interesting than the English ones because they are not really known outside of the communities of voice actors. I remember a video by Nick Whatever-his-name-is about hunting down the voice actor for Super Monkey Ball and the actor talking about said communities. When you think about it, the voice acting for SEGA and Nintendo games you most often hear (the English voice acting) is all dubbing, not the original voices. Though, at least for those the timings are made for both the English and Japanese voices. Wait...THAT is what Erik's face is meant to look like‽ I was genuinely shocked for a moment. I am so used to the pumpkins. I have gotten so used to his not very good German accent and pumpkin head. For some reason I did not notice the lack of pumpkins until then. Tot. Thank you, thank you for including "that man is a spy!" not as funny as it is in English but still good line, good line. "We're going to find you!" has a similar rythm "That man is a spy!"'s rythm in English. Well, B.J. is an American so the "sie" could have been a slip-up in a time of panic. Hey, wait, me! Hi, me. How is life? I really like when games take the time to have accurate languages. It was really neat watching my friend (who knows Russian, German, and English) play Half-Life 2: Episode 2 and just translate "Шахта Победы" ("Victory Mine") as soon as they saw the sign. Hearing them live translate it is really interesting, especially when they have to parce out what the phrase would mean in English (I.E. not just saying what it literally means). I quite enjoy languages (but only know English) as you can probably tell. One of the reasons I love this series is seeing how closely related words in languages are. I feel instead of replacing the salute with a finger it would have been better a closed fist, a symbol very known for being used in large groups for things (too tired to remember words). And it would look better than a pointing finger. Thank you, Mr German, for covering this game. It is one of my favourite Game Dungeon episodes. I probably comment too much on these videos.

    It's called "Panzerfaust" in the dub. I only realized it after playing the English version afterwards. As for the finger-pointing, I think it could represent "pointing towards a brighter future (for the Wolves)", especially since one of them features the hand being freed of its shackles. A fist would have worked better as a general salute though, that's true.

    did they manage to mess up the pronounciation of a famous battleship and have that somehow end up in the game? because tripitz sounds A LOT like a miss pronounciation fo tirpitz. yeah looked it up: the messed up the pronounciation of tirpitz and it ended up in the game. 15:27 for everyone interested.

    It wasn't a mistake, they changed it to "Tripitz" on purpose. Probably to try to remove connections to real-world ships.

    I admire Germany in so many ways, but censorship is a gigantic exception. What are censors trying to protect people from? and why do they think people need to be protected in the first place? We all know what they are censoring and people playing the game know exactly what they are subjecting themselves to
