The Quilt-as-you-go Chronicles Ep 1: Making an applique quilt as you go quilt together

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

This is episode 1 of The Quilt-as-you-go Chronicles; in the next ten episodes, we will make a mystery quilt-as-you-go quilt called I, Valentine. Each week we will construct a section of the quilt and show you lots of tips and techniques, as well as delving into all things quilt as you go and sewing. In this series, you will learn how to machine applique, free-motion quilt, and quilt on a home sewing machine. Also, you will discover two great methods for quilt as you go and see how we make an entire quilt from start to finish on our domestic sewing machine. You can sew along with us and the Pattern Poole community, all you need to do is head to our website and sign up to have the PDF patterns emailed to you weekly.
It will be lots of fun, and we hope you enjoy it!

    Hang in there i had the same thing as your father and I was sick for 5 year. I am finally better and 100% free of my illness. My family suffered to see me so ill and I one point I was given 6 months to live. I was starting to give up and becoming depressed but my family did not give up they had faith and gave me the strength I needed. Little thing like making a video of everyone singing one of my favor song. I would forget just for a moment I was sick and this gave me hope. Prayer to you and your family

    This is truly lovely and thanks for the tips. I am, however, too lazy to do all this. I cut out my pieces in my Scan N Cut, or with an Accuquilt die. Then I sew them down with my embroidery machine.

    Oh wow, you are very clever! I have a scan n cut but I always think that by the time I remember how to use it I could have cut the shapes out by hand lol. Maybe I should get it out and use it more often.

    Do you need to have a FB account to complete the course? Also, my printer only prints 8 1/2 x 11 (not the other one). In the past when I print 100%, it cuts out some of the lines so I have to select a smaller percentage, which results in the square not being one inch…any ideas? Thanks! ❤❤ I love all your videos. I’m excited to take this course (if I don’t need FB). 😊

    Hello, no you don’t need Facebook for this course. If you pay up front we email you the course notes each week or you can pay as you go by purchasing the course notes separately. Are patterns are formatted to print on the paper size that you mentioned, we allow plenty of space around the edge so that nothing is cut off when printed. Thanks for your kind words! Glad that you can join us! ❤️

    This will be my first venture into making a quilt entirely from applique. For certain, it will not be my last. My first question is this. Where can I find the size of the trimmed squares and rectangles? I can't seem to find that in the instructions. Blocks 1 and 2 start with a 13-1/2" square background fabric. What size will it be when I trim it?

  • @PatternPooleTV

    @PatternPooleTV

    Жыл бұрын

    I haven't put the finished sizes in the course notes yet because I didn't want to confuse everyone with too many measurements. I'll put them in the week 3 course notes. The 13 1/2" blocks will be trimmed to 12 1/2" squares. I don't normally trim until the end, just in case the blocks fray around the edge while they wait to be joined. They probably won't fray but I'm just a bit pedantic ha ha! Hope that you are enjoying the applique!

    How would you find the blanket stitch if you are new to appliqué?

  • @PatternPooleTV

    @PatternPooleTV

    Жыл бұрын

    Check your sewing machine manual to see if your machine has a blanket stitch, if you don’t have the manual, google your machine model, most of the manuals are online. If you don’t have a blanket stitch a small zigzag is also a lovely appliqué stitch.
