Wow they sure did pick the best person to represent the god point of view. She single handedly gave the debate to the atheist

Great program. But there is just the natural huh? An idea is neither flesh nor blood nor material of any kind, yet it has the power to heal or destroy. Please explain an idea. God calls it logos. They're all using it to make their points/views which are totally non-material.

Interesting video, however, there's a fundamental flaw which is made in the first minute and then repeated throghtout. Namely the view that atheism is the rejection of God's authority, or to quote Dr. Armand Nicholi "... raises its fist in defiance" to God. I'm an atheist and like most atheist I know I have never been angry with God or raised my fists in defiance. If anything I would love it if the creator of reality wanted to have a special relationship with me and that I'll get to live eternally with all those whom I love in His Kingdom. In other words, if God exists, nothing can be more important. However, I'm an atheist because there simply isn't enough evidence to convince me that He exists.

You seem to be an honest skeptic based on your comment. Hopefully you realize that the evidence can never be the final arbiter in this matter. Our worldview/ presuppositions/bias is the prism through which we interpret all facts of Life. The finest scientists, artists, poets in history have been on the opposite side of this question. Why? Was it their intelligence? Apparently, not. There are Nobel prize laureates that are either atheists or Christians. It was how they interpreted the facts. It was their worldview that divided them and still does. Naturalism/materialism, dualism, and monism are the three main worldviews. There are subdivisions within thw three, but ultimately only these 3 arw used to explain epistemology, ethics, metaphysics. All people fall into one of the three. Which is your worldview?

Dear friend, above everything else your own self is the most convincing proof of your Creator, as you have surely not created yourself. In the morning stand before the mirror and bit by bit think about wonders in you, outside and inside. You will see His Hans and Will in every cell of your body and every twinkling of your soul. Best wishes

Vedat Bilgutay,.. not enough? or there never will be enough? To your credit you do not come accross as defiant and angry as arguably most aetheist. When a father tells his son that he is to eat his green beans before he will be excused from the dinner table and the son does so but with each hard swallow thinks to himself I will never be like my father..why does he insist there is something of value in these beans?! So I ask is this not still defiance and mistrust in its' albeit passive but most assured form?

And what is your evidence for affirming that atheism is true other than your claim that "There is no evidence for God"? So far that is an empty claim you are making without any support for it. Anyone can claim or use the claim "there is no evidence" about anything. Why is your claim that "There is no evidence" true as opposed to others that claim the same thing about other issues? Are you saying that all the arguments you have ever seen about God existing have false premises and conclusions to them? If so, then you have to show that it is true that such arguments have indeed false premises and conclusions to them instead of just claiming that they do without showing so. You are indeed defying God when you don't defend the truth of your position and just believe it without any good reason or evidence to it. Clearly, you are not as smart as you think yourself to be when you do that.

Religious people say how can you get something from nothing? And then in the same breath make the assumption that God has always been here eternally. It is an infinite regress. Who created the creator? It obviously didn't create itself. The. You hear the it's outside of time and space (which is basically the same thing.) According to scripture God made the Heavens and the Earth in 6 days. It takes TIME to do that. How can you be outside of time and space and interact with it? The real question is can we fi d a place in this universe where there is nothing? Nothing doesn't exist. It has never been detected nothing that is. There has always been something, it is the only conclusion you can come to. Energy can neither be created nor destroyed, it just changes form. The one absolute in this universe is that things is and will always change. Nothing ever stays the same whether it is a flower, a human, a star, or a universe, everything must change, nothing will ever stay the same. There has never been nothing, because nothing doesn't exist.

It’s pointless to prove the existence of God if you can’t justify the benefit that faith in God brings to humanity. And if you can justify the latter, then it is redundant to attempt to prove the former. Faith in God IS God. This just may be the reason Jesus said, “Your faith has healed you” rather than, “God has healed you.”

Seraphim Winslow Faith isn’t a valuable way to justify your beliefs. By definition, Faith leads anyone anywhere, truth being the least likely place. The rewards of faith are found by the ones doing the convincing at the detriment of those using faith to be convinced. It takes very little to convince someone when you emotionally reward people by telling them, their great faith brings them closer to “God.” This is manipulation at it’s lowest level. If your God requires faith, you’re definitely not worshiping an actual God, You’re worshiping a mechanism designed to establish a business dealing in deception.

@@paulmillbank3617 That's all very interesting, and sounds true. But it has absolutely nothing to do with my original post. You seem to be responding to some other set of assertions (which I am not making) such as "Faith is valuable" or "Faith proves the existence of God."

Seraphim Winslow If you say so, I’ll take you at your word. I would say that your Jesus quote implies that faith heals you and faith justifies God gives the impression that faith is required to heal yourself and once you accept faith you find God. If you’re just laying out words that don’t have those meanings then I’ll apologize for wasting your time.

@@paulmillbank3617 Well, I probably expressed myself badly then. Please accept my apologies. Let me try to express myself more clearly, even if more verbosely: What I mean to say (trying to put it more simply now) is the same thing that Jesus said when he said, "By their fruits ye shall know them." If faith in God brings benefit, health, happiness, joy, culture, beauty, meaning, purpose and all kinds of other good to oneself and society, then we should not promote belief in God and religion, etc., regardless of whether someone called "God" exists or not. And, similarly, if faith in God brings harm to oneself and society, then even if there is such a thing as "God" we should surely try to totally stamp out faith in "him" (if we can't get rid of "God" altogether). So, we really should make an exhaustive cost-benefit analysis of the benefits versus the harms that religion brings to the individual and the society, and if it turns out that there are more boons than busts, then let's keep believing in God, by all means. But if our analysis proves that belief in God causes more harm than good, then we should forego faith in God. Please notice that this is not an argument for or against the existence of God, but an encouragement to honestly and rationally weigh the plusses and minuses of belief in such a Being.

Seraphim Winslow Then allow me to offer something that faith does to people that is less favorable. 1) Faith allows for cognitive dissidence. People are told to have faith that a book is the word of God and that book is unerring therefore evolution isn’t real. 2) Faith can influence good people to do wicked things in the name of God. 3) Faith erodes societal morality. God is an absolute moral caregiver and without God you can’t have objective morality. If we use the Bible as an example and evaluate Gods character, he says in exodus 21: You can beat your slave as long as he doesn’t die in a day or two. This should be the death knell for this God as our giver of objectively morality, but Faith once again blinds the faithful. I think it’s faith and not God that is the real evil. Teach mythology because it’s important but keep faith out of mythology and you have all the benefits of God with less or none of the negatives.

@@vladimir0700 Yeah, I guess so. And if so ... You too, like a helpless little animal in the hands of a sick depraved individual, will be powerless to stop him. Just because you don't believe in an all powerful, good and evil God, doesn't make it so. Just because you can't bring yourself to believe in a terrible awful God who could take pleasure in your suffering doesn't by automatic logic negate the possibility of his existence. I believe in an all powerful, good and evil God. He can be very good and loving to those whom he chooses... And he can be sick and evil, extremely cruel to those whom he chooses to hate. God is like one of us: ready to bless and take care of his own; and then too, ready to utterly destroy by any and all means necessary all who hate him, all whom he hates for any reason he chooses, and those he does not love. Apparently God doesn't love you. Or me.
