Growing up in a Mormon home, leaving for me was never an option; my parents and church leaders made it clear that would be leaving God and following the "world". This was hammered into me every day and so I had a deep fear of ever leaving the church. How can anyone think this is healthy for a child? After leaving as an adult both my mental and physical health improved.. I really don't know how to give any better piece of evidence rather than my own personal life experiences to show that there's something wrong here.

People should be able to leave at any time for any reason and not be called names like lazy learners. We shouldn’t have to prove to anyone that our reasons for leaving are legitimate. If it’s legitimate to us, then it’s legitimate. What a person believes about god, the purpose of life and the afterlife is very personal. We shouldn’t have to be subjected to attacks on our character when we make the decision to live our lives according to our own beliefs.

I grew up in the Anglican church, pretty mainstream religiously and I know I still struggled when I was 12/13 with deciding to not participate anymore. I remember crying and feeling so scared of hell. I can't imagine how much worse that would be with something like Mormonism where it takes up your ENTIRE life. My thing with the "everything can be a cult" argument they were trying to make is, this argument doesn't hold water because other things that have cult like followings or fandoms don't try to stop you from leaving. I found it really galling that they used the language "someone suggested that I live a certain way" because we all know that's not what Mormonism is. You aren't allowed to just take things as suggestions. If that were the case, there wouldn't be all these "worthiness" tests and prying into people's lives.

If your in good standing with the church your in good standing with Jesus, and if you leave the church your leaving Jesus . That is why the greatest penalties in Mormonism ( outer darkness ) are reserved for those who leave ( apostates ), who in their view you are an apostate of Jesus . As far as “non-faith promoting”, the actual suggestion is to just stay away from the negative “worldly” nonsense that is prevalent in today’s world. How many business leaders, or secular therapists have suggested to “stay off social media”? Or “don’t watch the news”? Are they trying to control your thoughts or just trying to help stop the cycle of BS feed to people today? So change to help people “feel more comfortable” is bad?
