The Quad Squad: Power and Purpose of the Polygon | Raisina Dialogue 2023 | S. Jaishankar

Raisina Dialogue 2023 | The Quad evokes images of security partnership, of a development alliance, and even of a consultative committee. One and a half years since the first Leaders’ Summit, the Quad is now facing a choice between focusing on its core identity, or seeking the benefits that might come from being a more amorphous and reactive grouping.
As nations shift their attention to growth and the reconfiguration of their global economic partnerships, how will the Quad remain relevant? How does the re-emergence of land war in Europe implicate the future of a maritime grouping in the Indo-Pacific? The US has signed an ambitious tech partnership with Australia and the UK; is part of the I2U2 focused on West Asia; has entered into a new bilateral technology agreement with India; and has a close tech alliance with Japan. How do these overlapping agreements and partnerships integrate with the Quad’s tech agenda? What path can it pick between a tight, action-focused coalition and a relatively minimalist ambition that might more easily incorporate other actors in the Indo-Pacific?
In Conversation:
Antony J. Blinken, Secretary of State, USA
Hayashi Yoshimasa, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Japan
Penny Wong, Minister for Foreign Affairs, Australia
S. Jaishankar, Minister of External Affairs, India
Moderator:
Samir Saran, President, Observer Research Foundation, India
About Raisina Dialogue:
The Raisina Dialogue is India’s premier conference on geopolitics and geoeconomics committed to addressing the most challenging issues facing the global community. Every year, leaders in politics, business, media, and civil society converge in New Delhi to discuss the state of the world and explore opportunities for cooperation on a wide range of contemporary matters. The Dialogue is structured as a multi-stakeholder, cross-sectoral discussion, involving heads of state, cabinet ministers, and local government officials, who are joined by thought leaders from the private sector, media, and academia.
The conference is hosted by the Observer Research Foundation in partnership with the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India. This effort is supported by a number of institutions, organisations and individuals, who are committed to the mission of the conference.

I am Indian, was studying Masters degree in SPbPU Russia. I can say that even my Russian friends never wanted this war. I feel very bad for how they are suffering in Russia. My Russian friends told me to go back to India. I dropped my Masters and came back to India, I went through severe trauma and so are my Russian friends. All I can say is nobody is strong, it just takes minutes to kill someone. After seeing the war what I truly want is peace in this world. Please. It is time that we all unite and leave peacefully in this world. We all are living on a single planet. I hope my words get heard. Please and thank you.

Great panel and Great discussion by ORF Although one thing needs to be clarified , when India talks about standing up for values , why is it part of RIC , SCO and simultaneously in Quad . These groupings and their leads have completely different set of values For India to exist in all these groupings at the same time ,it kind of shows that India's upholding the value of Multi engagement at the cost of other values , Are there any other values India stands for? If so , how does India reconcile conflicting values as it exists in conflicting groupings

And here we go!! Just like jaishankar said.. all of the above groups stand for a reasons but what you're trying to define them as they're standing against something or some other groups.. it's like you're trying to make Quad stand against Brics when in reality the purposes and interest are different.. quad wasn't built to stand against Brics nor the vise versa.. all the countries which are in a specific groupe have a common interest which resembles the similar interests of that particular group's creation and foundation.. so if India is in quad and brics and other groups then it's likely all these groups have values that are similar to India's interests!! The countries in a groupe may not agree on some particular interests of that group due to various circumstances and relationships!! But they do agree upon most of the interests of that group.. this is the reason a country joins a 'grp' or 'org'.. to fulfil each of there interests..

QUAD needs to keep a strong Supply Chain for fuel, food and fertilizer. This is important however, India has to do bi lateral relations with only countries where both the societies like and work with one another. There are societies and people in some countries that look low towards Indians. So, we have to work with people and societies and not just governments. EU needs to understand that they still have a family large population with NAZI mentality. Indians should only work with those societies in EU and the world that are willing to work with Indians

Or water life... kasi diyan naka depende po tayo lahat. No drinking water di tayo mabubuhay. War not bcz of the government prob war ay nalilikha dahil sa investment sa weapon. Kasi ang meron tayo in last 125 yrs ay kanya kanya. Sa totoo lang.. kayat ang meeon kmi pondo nang para sa government to everyone not only for my country not same all of u na inuuna ang sarili. Now world 🌎 Mahirap ba yan na gawin natin. Para sa inyong mga gobyerno ag mga leader not for me and not the interest of the business man or typhoon business's kasi kulang sa atin ay pondo yan anv aking tinatahak then I'm done. Sorry nakaka hiya at nakaka tawa but aminin o hindi yan tayong lahat lahat..

India should strive to be independent to U.S. to not need to join Quad to be at U.S.'s bidding. India is strong by itself and should seek its own seat in the UN as its permenant member. By joining Quad, India stopped its own rise to the UN permenant seat. No way China or Russia would allow India now to accept India since India shows it could only give in to the biddings of the U.S. U.S. looks at India as an obedient follower.
