My girl Serenity getting to duel and win. Yami summoning the 3 Dark Magicians against Noah. The entire Big Five vs Yami Yugi & Joey duel.

Virtual World might be one of the strangest filler plot detours in anime. Still the Five Headed Dragon fight and Battle City finals are iconic as hell.

Still find it cool that the Ishtar family is tombkeepers, while Marik disrepects the dead by reviving Ra with monster reborn, which ignores the proper sacrifices.

It's also a reference to what Ra is. Both a phoenix, which comes back from the dead, and Ra himself, who dies and then rises again.

Joey should've won that duel!! I love the sub how Marik was physically sick and threw up by the notion of losing to such an amateur

Fun fact: the blue eyes shining dragon card given out to kids at the movie couldn’t even be summoned, since blue eyes ultimate dragon was only released in the US a year later

Part 2 & 3 back to back. Truly a Christmas miracle 🔥

The fact that yugi challenges Noah with no field no hand only 400 life points against a deck master designed to be absolutely broken AND THEN WON

Had a bit of a free day at school so my mum took my sister and I out of school to see the movie. We were the only ones in the theatre, so staff gave us all of the exclusive cards. When I went to school the next day all the kids that played Yu-Gi-Oh with me gathered around to see the cool new cards and ask about the film. It was such a cool time as a fan.

The Virtual World arc wasn’t all bad if you love Kaiba. Also simply showcasing the Blue Eyes Jet Dragon and having Yugi’s monsters all appear to remove the Winged Dragon of Ra makes the season a 10/10.

Dude the Joey vs Marik battle was my favorite. Seeing Joey put up such a good fight against a great villain was insane! Adding how Joey SHOULDVE won that duel and only lost due to exhaustion, was crazy. Peak stuff.

Yeah, baby! That's what I've been waiting for! Dude, the whole backstory of the Kaiba family is so dark. It's even worse in the manga, where Gozaburo straight up throws himself out of a window because he lost to Seto at chess, and that was his way of teaching him that losing means death. Which is the entire reason Seto did what he did in Duelist Kingdom.

I think it was actually when Kaiba took the company from his dad but yeah the manga is so intense compared to 4kids

I liked the Virtual World filler arc. It gave us a look into the Kiaba Brothers backstory and gave us a chance to see the other side characters duel

When Yugi first time summoned Slifer on the blimp , that was so much epic cause the anime took a few to show the details and prolong the scene with amazing score for it. And the frustration feeling when Joey should had won against Married ck

Deck masters were such a cool concept, they really should have implemented specific deck master cards in the game. Also fun fact, Joey was originally going to beat Marik in the manga but the editors didnt like it and made the creator change it to have him lose. He said in an interview this is why joey has his Red Eyes back later, since he would have won it from Yugi

Joey using Kaiba's Cards against him was too good. Going as far as using his Blue-Eyes against him. Kaiba wishes he died from Ra's Attack. I was in Kenya visiting my Family when the Movie Came out and I was lucky to see it in theaters there. They did not have the Cards there. My friend on the other Hand had an Older Sister who worked at the Local Theater, so he had multiple Copies of Shining Dragon.

Didn't expected you're also including the first movie!!!! DAAAAMMMNNNN!!!! The Virtual World arc is such a bizarre detour but still worth it ngl..... Also Tea the only character that didn't lose in this series is so funny......😂😂😂😂😂

The Big Five were great filler villains. The virtual world arc was really about Kaiba's backstory & history.

True. Kaiba really shines in the anime. I was thrown off by how little time he actually gets in the manga.

Yugi turning it around on Noah with the Blue-Eyes was my favorite moment of the Virtual World arc.

Funfact: In the german dub of this arc the Five-Headed Dragon is called the "Five Gods Dragon" which is..way cooler :>

Fav. Moment.. as the real Marik speaks to the sleeping Odion, saying that he is sorry for what he did and although he betrayed his fate and him, he never left him..that was actually touching back then !

Even though the Virtual World Arc was filler and wasn't even in the manga. It was still really cool to see those outside of Yugi, Joey and Kaiba getting a chance to shine!

I love the concept of deck masters as a kid. I always wished that we got a video game or something that would let us play in that style. It would probably be horribly broken and easy to exploit but isn't that the heart of all card games and power creep anyway lol

Duelist of Roses sorta works that way. Not entirely, of course, given its SRPG style, but still pretty fun! :)

The movie made Peten the Dark Clown my favorite card because of how sinister it was. Also Kaiba 100% deserved that win. How is Paladin of White Dragon not treated as a Dragon in this?

I really love all of the filler arcs. Aside from the World Tournament arc since I've yet to watch all of them really yet. I do agree that it would have made more sense to push the Noah arc after the Battle Ciry arc. It does make me wonder how different it could be... maybe having Seto turn on the self-destruct sequence when they all fall into the virtual world?

As intrusive as the virtual world fliller was in this season, I do like how it expands more on Kaiba's origin and did a better job explaining it in the anime. Remember in the manga, Kaiba cheated at the chess game he played with Gozaboru, unlike here where he won fair and squared.

MY MAN!! I finished part 2 on my way to work so its wonderful to have part 3 released when i get off for the day!!!!

I loved the deck masters duels. I wished they brought those rules into the irl games.

Seto Kaiba: "Noah looks just like me... but with GREEN HAIR!" Who could imagine...

Reminds me of Yu-Gi-Oh: Nightmare Troubadour. The first time I ever saw Noah. Again, thank you for this!🥰😍

Season 3 was Yu-Gi-Oh at it's peak, the craziest memory i have with the feature length movie was how much promotion it got, even showed previews with Polar Express, Harry Potter & The Prisoner of Azkaban, and Kangaroo Jack: Good Day USA. 😅

Man, watching this season live was insane. Despite Marik being the obvious main final boss, they actually made us believe Joey was about to win and run back the duelist kingdom duel, which was impressive that a Shonen anime can actually give fans hope despite such an obvious outcome. The duel between Yugi and Kaiba was also my favorite duel in all of Yugioh. Seeing just how huge the god cards were - seeing tristan and duke's pov from the hosptial room and seeing just how HUGE they were was awesome. And just the technicality of the duel was dope . Definately an awesome season and was peak yugioh.

Season 2 and 3 are peak Yu-Gi-Oh

Man, I forgot this season even existed tbh. This was a good one though for character development for Kaiba, but otherwise it felt filler-y. But I somehow knew Noah was dead. Four is my favorite so idk how I can click on that video faster than I did this one, but we'll see! Thanks again for making these.

I do agree they could've made the virtual world the 2nd half of season 3, but I do hold that arc quite fondly Have always loved the deckmaster idea Probably why I like the commander format in magic the gathering so much I remember seeing the movie in theatres and pulling that blue eyes shining dragon was an awesome moment especially as my friend fell to the ground in defeat pulling the pyramid of light Then some random kid gave me the skilled dark magician

I absolutely adored the virtual reality arc there was just something so cool about a virtual world and the big 5 taking the forms of duel monsters. I know it interrupted the Marik threat but I actually like this arc more than the marik one.

I enjoy the duels between the protagonists and the Big Five. It's not bad as a filler arc, but not as good as season 4 (obviously not including the Battle City Finals since that was canon).

Honestly, I don't remember much from season three except the battle with Yugi and Marik, where the AP counter shoots to infinity. I missed a decent number of episodes in season 3.

I watched part two..went to bed after. Woke to find part 3 released during my sleep. This worked out lovely.

I never saw the Yugioh Movie in theaters but I remember in 3rd grade a class mate of mine named Adam (one who I barely spoke to) came up to me at recess and said if I could get him candy then he’d give me something cool. He then showed up to my house asking for me, I went outside and had no idea what to expect but I gave him a pack of Skittles and M&M’s. He then gives me 4 movie promo cards. I was stunned meanwhile, he’s pouring the M&M’s into his mouth. He then asked “is that cool?” My jaw dropped at the site of Blue Eyes Shining Dragon and said “it’s so cool” and then he says “ there ya go, see ya” and then he took off on his bike. I never spoke about Yugioh at school , I didn’t own Yugioh clothes either. I never gave Adam my address either. I never saw him after that day, I think he moved away, I still have the cards after all these years.

The virtual world arc is honestly pretty amazing, but it really should have happened outside of the Battle City finals. But hey, that's how filler arcs happen sometimes.

I've heard from another reviewer that the virtual world arc was added because at this point the anime had caught up to the manga, so this was to fill some time until takahashi finished writing the finals

Watching this retrospective of Yu-Gi-Oh has brought back so many memories.

The fact Pegasus is killed off in the manga makes me want them to recreate the series but for mature audiences I think yugioh could genuinely be a good series for older audiences if they didn't have the kids rating rules in the way

I agree the timing of season 3 was weird, but I like that we got a story basically tell us why kabia is the way he is. My favorite character, by the way

I still have the headcanon that Joey won against Yami. Joey gets the new Red-Eyes support in Duel Links and Duel Links is imo canon because they're continuing VRAINS' story through the game. Duel Links is also a virtual world in DSoD where Kaiba met Sena's avatar.

In the manga the Stepfather kills himself in a backstory after losing chess against kaiba so I have a strong preference for this backstory since it has more depth and not as over the top edgy

This show was first airing when I was around 2 or 3 and I had no interest in watching it since (I've always preferred Pokémon) but these videos have made me very interested in actually checking it out.

I believe the Virtual World Arc should have happen after Yami Marik was defeated.

I know we're only covering the official release, but still feels weird to see Duke without Sexyback playing in the background

I think what I remember most about season 3 is the battle between the penguin vs Tea, the last battle of Yugi vs Noah, and then Yugi vs Marik. It was a crazy weird season, but I loved it. I stopped watching after this point, probably just phased out of Yugioh as a kid. But, I know a little bit of whats to come. Excited to hear the full story!

the two things i remember most from season 3 were all the flashbacks the characters kept having, at one point they had a flashback of a time when they also had a flashback, it was so stupid lol. the other thing i remember was going to see the movie and wanting the sorceror or dark magic cause i also liked using spellcaster decks whereas my sister wanting blue eyes shining dragon, alas we got neither

Fun Fact: In the manga, Noah doesn't exist nor does this arc ever happen. In fact, Kaiba's father is dead. After he lost that chess match to Kaiba, he muttered something about wanting to teach him and Mokuba a lesson about the real world before he threw himself out of a skyscraper window and fell to his death. Kaiba saw his dead body splattered on the ground below. (Yeah...pretty dark shit.)

Fun Fact: The anime, not the US 4Kids version, chose not to kill off Pegasus and Bandit Keith like in the Manga, they both return later on, Keith in Battle City and Pegasus in GX.
