I know, I KNOW that there's going to be some mad hate on the price on this one shroom polyp, but if watch the video all the way through I think there's a good argument to be made for why *some* expensive corals are good for the hobby and for coral reefs.

Reef Builders how do you figure exactly? If collectors think they can sell corals for this price they will become just like rhinos, elephants, and so many others. Please explain your logic.

@arringar I think he means that these pricy corals end up in farming/ husbandry type situations as opposed to private collections, which means they're destined to be fragged and sold to the public instead of being squandered, so the value will drop considerably, making 'poaching' far less lucrative.

Sometimes when I hear the prices of some of the rare and beautiful corals it reminds me of the tulip-mania, I have to admit if I had the money I wouldn't mind having an awesome rare coral farming facility, even just for the enjoyment of discovering and propagating these beautiful pieces. Love coral highlights like this, keep it up Jake ;)

From the second I saw the crazy shroom pics yesterday I was mesmerised, had so many questions. I wonder which part of the ocean it originated from? Thank you so much Jake for doing this video. I've often heard confusion amongst Aussies as to what defines a jawbreaker. 👌

Seeing these corals just makes me think of how my tank will never be on this thpe of level. Been doing this since 1999 and still can't see myself with a tank with a coral that expensive. Wifey would not go for it in any way shape or form lol.

Hey man, it's all about what YOU like! The thing about these crazes is that when the focus is on ONE group of corals, it's off another group, and those corals get much cheaper. However, you'll never have to shell out big bucks for the classic corals that looks great in any light.

I have an amazing bounce mushroom that only a very few reefers are fortunate to have. I, among other bounce mushroom enthusiasts who have this particular mushroom agree that tbis is the most colorful bounce mushroom in the US and puts the WWC OG bounce to shame. I will email photos if I can find an email address for Reef Builders.

I still like the reefkeeping hobby, love corals.. But for 10K yeah, I have lots of other better things to buy or spend on compared to 1 mushroom regardless of looks. But we all know why someone would buy this, is to be the first, to quickly try to propagate it to recoup their money and make more money. PLAIN and SIMPLE.

Guys a German Sheppard costs 750-1250 gbp but the most valuable best example of the breed costs 10,000 gbp as the offspring will be more valuable and desired. 20 years time the dogs from that line will be common and normally priced making the breed better. dunno maybe its a shitty example..haha

can you give an example of any coral that was crazy expensive and now goes for 50 to 60 dollars a pop? Most people or shops that culture these animals do it for one thing. to make money. will it go down in price? That make take years. i do not know the grow rate but it can't be that good. Mostly the only way a coral comes down is the want. If it is no more desirable then it goes down. i have a pagoda almost 2 feet across and over 5 lbs in weight and 18 years old but i could not get crap for it even though you never ever see a specimen in full colony mode rarely. no one wants a pagoda coral.

UNLESS . . . it's an investment that will make someone a profit, and that's the territory some of these high dollar corals are in. I know it's off-putting, but I assure you that it guarantees that these corals go into intensive propagation making them more common and affordable on a long enough timeline.
