Ricordea Yuma Reproduction Natural Mushroom Propagation Saltwater Coral Reef Aquarium

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

This video is about Ricordea Yuma Mushroom Natural Reproduction / Propagation. I will not be fragging the mushrooms in this video, rather I will be showing natural growth through Pedal Laceration.
2 Types of Reproduction found in Ricordea Mushrooms:
- Longitudinal Fission
- Pedal Laceration
Longitudinal Fission is where the mushroom creates 2 mouths and the coral then splits apart into 2 separate corals. This is seen prominently in Ricordea Florida.
Pedal Laceration is where coral moves around slowly leaving behind small pieces of their foot, which will then grow and develop into new mushrooms.
Reproduction Rate
Tends to be slow at first until the coral is acclimated and happy with the new environment. Then it can accelerate in reproduction / growth rate rather quickly and take over the area it is in.
- 1 mushroom can become a whole rock of mushrooms in a relatively short amount of time.
Note: unlike Discosoma mushrooms, they do not tend to detach and float around the tank repopulating all over your rock scape.
Reproduction Rate Contributors
- Feeding
- Lighting
- Flow
Feeding
- Phytoplankton and small foods such as reef roids.
Lighting
- Medium to bright light
Flow
- Low flow is best.
Reproduction Time Lapse
I will follow through a couple different pedal lacerations so you can see the process from start to finish.
I captured
- The start of the laceration
- The point where it breaks away
- The start of coral formation - represented by the green glow
- Polyp first appearance
- Color development - green glow to red
- Finally a new mushroom

Awesome job! Can you cut these to speed along. I have successfully cut my magic carpet but last time I killed a 3 inch one! I think It was splitting so I should have left it alone. Is it ok to trim some of the less colored up areas of magic carpet or can you only cut at the mouth? When the big mom died it had all the bright colors on it and some of the babies are very colorful on the edges and I have people wanting to buy some babies but dont fell comfortable selling less then perfectly colored ones and I hate to just buy a new one and cant even find one as brightly colored as the mom that died!

Gret Video! Lots of questions! I have a HUGE orange purple yuma I have had for years and never had a baby! It just gets bigger. Why? never seems to move either. Its attached to a good size rock. I had a king kong stayed small for years but one day i looked under it on the plug and there were babys attached to the sides and bottoms of plugs! It was only about an inch !/2 big where as my other one is about 4 inches with no babies ever! I am staring a mushroom and zoa frag tank. is that a good idea being together. They are all high end pieces! I was told to just put rubble on the bottom where mushrooms are going. Should I not or should I also put some large rocks? I plan to put a few highend disocs like iterstellars, stripper lips and goodzillas, jaw breakers. maybe my cheaper yumas. fireshroom aka magic carpets, jawbreakers and og and some bounce Rhodactis. og, frankensteins, godspawns, powerballs Juggernaut ect. Will they sting each other? Should I try to keep them separate into different sections?. My goal is to propagate them all! How do I get them to move around especially if they are attached? I also thought they liked low light. is that only Yumas? They wiil be in a 20 l only 12 inches deep! Appreciate any advice! How much par do you consider high light

Some quicker than others, anywhere from 4-6 weeks from the mushroom leaving a piece of the foot behind to a colored up tiny mushroom.

The rock is covered. I actually just moved this tank to my basement and repositioned the rock to try to keep them from hopping to a new rock.
