Just send it in a few times. We all know someone will grade it authentic eventually.

The more PSA traffics (vending machine, vault, upcharges) in the cards that they presumably objectively grade, it creates a perception that they may have a vested interest in the grades they issue, reducing their objectivity.

Of course they do. Just think about this. All the top dawgs at collectors / PSA have hundreds of thousands/ millions of $$ invested in cards. Not my opinion it’s a fact. Take the head guy for example I won’t mention names but everyone should know who I’m referring to. Millions of dollars in high end Jordan cards. Try grading some meaningful Jordan inserts from 90’s now. Watch the grades you get. It’s similar to our government and the stock market

Just crazy to use that cert for advertisement, especially if it was deactivated prior to being selected.

I have a theory. Maybe they purposely chose a cert number that doesn't exist because once someone wins a card out of their vending machine then the company doesn't own that card anymore. And it's possible that legally they may not be able to advertise a picture of a card with a cert number that they don't own. So the way around this is to use a number that PSA has decertified.

The more I think about it the more I think my theory has validity. As someone who sells slabs online if a vending company used a picture of a card I own on their machine it could cause problems for me. People could accuse ME of being a scammer because they think the vending company owns the card, not me.

For some cards like the 86 Fleer Jordan I would not be surprised if 20% of the PSA pop are altered or fake. For vintage it could be as high as 30%. I'm all for grading but there's no way I would pay serious money for a graded card from certain eras or certain products - like TCG.

It's no different than a scratch ticket vending machine that has pictures of 100 million dollar prizes on the side of it. It is weird that they used that particular cert number though. I don't have an issue with them using a picture of a high value card though. Anyone with common sense should know that just because it's pictured doesn't mean it's in that specific machine. That company could have thousands of machines all over the country and it could be in any one of them.

To be fair, it's very possible that's just graphic design and not the actual card. They very well could have had the graphic created with a fake number to protect the cert number of the real card so a million people don't try to make counterfeits using that number, then proactively flagged it in the system for the same reason. It's like saying a credit card in a pop-up ad has a counterfeit number because you tried to use it to buy something. It's just an advertisement and I'm guessing they didn't think people would look up the number. I dunno man, I wouldn't put this type of information out there without contacting the company to confirm first. You could be completely tanking a business that did nothing wrong and that's the type of thing that gets people sued out of their socks. This is especially true if they've invested in an actual PSA 10 Charizard to put in there, since a shit ton of money would be in play.

It’s a genuine cert. if PSA did what you said it have been more obvious. Definitely nothing to be sued about. I mentioned it was just my opinion and that the machine itself could have the TCs displayed on the screen. My point was that it say nothing outside the machine and has people thinking they can hit that Charizard

The BBCE '86 Fleer box was a legit unicorn box. Ample historical evidence was provided to prove that. The Pokemon case was obviously a clown show. Steve should never have tried to shift into a genre he was unfamiliar with.

The fact Steve is the only man authenticating sealed wax in a multi million dollar industry is so comical. I would put zero stock into a pack that he has authenticated for PSA. Good on him for spotting a niche in an unregulated wild west market but it's an indictment on the industry that he's it. If people actually cared about being legit they would have a vault where sealed wax went into immediately at release time. Getting someone to peak their nose into a box and pack to give it their seal of approval is again laughable given how much money is at stake. And I don't buy into the Steve should not have gone into something he was not familiar with. Only a born optimist would think that he has not made similar mistakes, perhaps hundreds of them, over the years. He's getting paid good money for old rope imo. Good for him. Shame on the big players in the industry. The good 'ole boys.

Just because Steve has 99% of the market, doesn't mean his service isn't qualified. If you actually knew anything about unopened vintage, you would not have said what you've said here. There are at least 50-100 top experts in this area, and they will all tell you that Steve is the gold standard.

I think they decertified it to help against counterfeits. Decert and if you pull the card from the machine or wherever, they'll give it a new slab and cert. Just my 2 cents on that. Someone on IG posted a video where they got two sporta cards. Went to the machine at 5am. Lol. Then pulled a 10 of Tom Brady Select base insert and a Jonathan Taylor Optic insert. 2 cards worth maybe 25 bucks combined. But that's the gamble you take.

Yes, but if this deactivated item is actually available in the machine, you can't assume the copy available is the legit version, and will automatically receive a new cert, same grade.
