Riding solo is good for the soul. You're completely responsible for your own well being. It teaches you a unique form independence and self awareness. We as Singaporeans probably need it more because our country is so small. We're always safe and comfortable most of the time and we get complacent about our lives worrying about a lot of first world problems. If your motorcycle breaks down in the middle of nowhere. Your character, wits, problem solving and patience all get tested. Especially if it's your first time, you have to deal with it alone as best you can.

Agree with what you said about riding solo (even applies to cycling). It's not about having no friends. Sometimes we just want to have some quiet moments and be alone to take in the views, etc. without any rush or distractions from others. I also agree with what you said about feeling the rumbling engine and hearing the exhaust notes - totally legit and not lame at all. It's not about riding fast, it's about FEELING the ride. Watching this video reminds me of my first solo trip when I rode to malacca with a FZ16(4months experience in riding). Managed to reach malacca without using GPS .It was scary yet I feel that solo trip build your confidence level in riding and navigating. Crossing the bolder also allows you to know the capabilities and limitations of the bike which was why I upgraded my bike upon passing my 2A last month PS: would love to ride with you guys someday

I'm so used to solo riding that I have never ride in a group before even when offered. One of the pros is that you can make a detour anywhere you want and find some really good hidden food places and place to clear your mind. It's easier to interact with random people and for me usually random people will come up to me to talk to me.

Rode to Msia solo once on my MT-09, OTOT was great but can get really boring and would start shouting randomly to keep myself awake lol. During that trip, on my way back, I felt threatened when I was being chased by some smaller 2 stroke bikes (I was paranoid that they would rob me and take my bike). I sped up for quite a distance (otherwise, I'd usually chill and cruise) to a nearby petrol kiosk and heaved a sigh of relief when I saw a small group of friendly Singaporean bikers there. The sense of security and warmth from a bike community, taking care of one another, is something that makes riding motorcycles great.

I do solo rides to trengganu, gua musang... and up coming to kota bahru. Solo and sometimes with my wife, and i had been enjoying ever since. The biggest advantage is you can do everything own time own target, stop and go whenever you likes, no time pressure, no speed pressure.

Solo riding has been and will always my way to do a little soul searching, escaping the rats race of SG and to somewhat rekindling the sense of "freedom". And the concept of "freedom" can be found in many ways while riding solo. It's just you, your choice of machine and the search of gas stations amidst the kms of tarmac. No other noise. Smile, remember to smile. Even underneath that full face lid, smile. Those who acknowledges your eyes, knows that you smile. So why go in search of the "Land of smiles", when the smiles is already in you. And what better way to recognise and see deep inside your self, when you are one with the machine, riding on and facing the vast lands of earth, alone. Wasn't that was what the earliest of man was left to do on earth? In search, for himself? So please don't mind us dear neighbours, we are all here to do a little soul searching on your roads, sands and trails....

Good informative video. I myself rides solo. Rode solo up to Malacca & Mersing multiple times. Had a couple of group rides but i feel its not for me. I feel better riding solo. Have plans to ride further up maybe KL or Penang but stil yet to do it. One thing when riding solo need to find good lodging for the safety of our bike.

In November last year I rode up to Chiang Mai solo. Took 5 days to shoot up to CMai. I rode 4 days in MHS area and took 5 days to come back to SG. Really good fun. Not a hairy moment by God's Grace. Quite safe and no one harassed me. My DR650 was approaching 20 yo and I just turned 70. No time to waste. It was now or never. Thanks so much for sharing!! Up and down, it was a 6000 km trip. I got lost a little near Bangkok.

I like riding solo, went solo from SG to Mae Hong Son years ago. Most of the time I ride solo to Thailand. Might do it again later this year or next year. I can stop wherever I want, whenever I feel tired. And I am a pit stop kinda rider. Pump petrol, guzzle down water, go pee and carry on. When I ride in a group, I find the stops too long sometimes. But I'm not those 180-220km/hr rider. Nowadays, at most I will go touring with just 1 other guy with the similar style of riding. Otherwise my touring life has mostly been solo and always out of Malaysia (Scared whole bike get stolen!)

Sharing my experience with the Xiaomi pump: It pumps rather slowly and the battery for mine degraded too quickly for my liking. It took less than two years before its battery could only muster enough energy tp pump up a single tyre from flat to half. I had since bought the INGCO portable pump as replacement. This comes with a universal detachable battery that can also be used across its battery-powered product range. This pump now sits permanently in the underseat storage of my X-ADV and it pumps considerably faster than the Xiaomi unit. I also purchased an additional battery for peace of mind, which is good to have if you will be riding long distances and off the main roads.

Welcome to Malaysia, Understand the moment to carry all stuffs, If bike no box no lock i never put stuffs on bike for "free to take", I just come back from ride solo in Japan Hokkaido, all rider here never carry helmet into shop or toilet, even camera or bags still mounted on bike without worry about it.

Lovely video. If your biggest fear is a flat tire; dont you have some kind of AA in Malaysia? A service you can call to come help you if something happens to your bike? I know BMW motorrad has it worldwide for example. Also a lockable container on the bike (like a small flightcase/Pelican case) is nice to have so you can leave your bike behind for a while if needed.

Forget a water bottle. Get a hydration pack. They have many benefits over a bottle. Your body has an easier time staying hydrated than rehydrating, and you'll pee less if you drink the same amount slower over time instead of chugging a whole bottle at once. You just need an inline valve instead of one at the end so you can get it in your helmet. Or you can have no valve and a wet lap, which is fine in hot weather. I recently crashed into a deer while wearing a 3 liter pack, and I was completely unarmed. I could be wrong, but I think the pack helped cushion the many impacts of rolling down the road at 50mph.

@@tri333ple yes, I was very lucky. I didn't get hurt at all, not even a scratch or a bruise, so I'm very okay! No, the pack didn't break. It didn't even have a scratch on it, and neither did my helmet. I think the pack kept the back of my helmet off the ground as I rolled. It felt like I rolled a lot. When I stopped rolling and started sliding, I was face down. The in-line valve got scratched a little, and the bite valve came off, but I found it. Even the plastic belt buckle under my riding pants got cut almost in half from the slide. I don't know how the pack straps didn't get any damage. It was a freak accident. I was also wearing CE level-2 armor. I highly recommend CE2 armor now. It's so inexpensive, but it's so valuable, you can't afford not to have it. I think you guys do a great show, and I share it with everybody. Keep up the good work!

In my opinion, the R9T is a perfect breakfast or a day ride machine. They do have some luggage options depending on how you want your bike to be setup. You can also strap on a waterproof bag on the pillion seat if you are riding solo. For longer distance, I will still prefer my Africa Twin as my main tourer machine. My first riding trip into Malaysia was solo, in 2019 cos i had no friends that rode bikes at the time 😂 I actually ended up going to the same Yean Kee in Kluang haha

Group is ok with people with similar riding style and mindset. Many accidents result with trying to follow and keep up. So I never do that and ride my own ride. if I think the group is going too fast, I will wave them to overtake me. So always have your own gps.

Hello, I am planning to go on my first solo ride to malacca and stay a few days there. Judging from the way you always maintain vision and stay within close proximity of your bike, is it true that bike theft is very common in Malaysia? I am riding a small bike, Honda CB150R, and my main concern is getting my bike stolen especially when I park my bike overnight. Any thought/advice? P.S. I only have a disc brake lock with alarm but idk if it's enough

For hotels best to check with the hotel staff if they have safe parking. And use your disc brake lock for extra security!

I prefer to ride by my self or with just one other rider. In a group I’m always focused on the riders in front and/or behind me and I tend to loose my focus on the other traffic. I’m and old fart so my reaction time means I need all the focus I can muster 😆👍!

Agreed. I embarked on my first solo ride, just a short one to Desaru to catch the sunrise 2 weeks ago. I agree with you on the part where its mentally healing, you meet locals and you just take in the surrounding. This vid makes me want to randomly pinpoint a town in Johor state and ride there for lunch. Great vid Winston, keep it going guys

Imagine for emergencies.. all you need is such a small bottle of water. Back in the days you would have to carry much more… or less.

I go solo when riding buddies last minute fly kite me but more now as I have moved to another state. Beginning of the week everyone excited then one by one drop as the day comes nearer. I still carry on cause the ride is what i want and need to reset my level of stress for the next week. The pros of solo riding is I can stop and change route whenever I want to without upsetting the rest.

@@tri333plehmmm…i have no issues with going to the toilets as the bike is loaded with top and side boxes so it would be no one to talk/share the experience with during breaks in between rides and meal times.

I have been riding and day touring alone ever since I got my bike.. tried group riding few times but never like it. Mostly because of the peer pressure or just I love being alone 😢

I think most people ride solo most of the time here in the US. I don't think people do much solo touring though. I do, but I like to explore and get lost. I think most people are uncomfortable being lost. I think that's weird. Everyone has a GPS to get un-lost now. I think the roads are different here too. I can do 300 miles in a day without riding on multi lane highways. You guys seem to be on them every time you tour.

The cafe look really stylish but I think I will pass on the poop coffee 😂 As an introvert, I always do not understand why people shun me for rejecting outings and just wanna be alone. I have not done any touring cus I still on 2B and honestly I scared stuff like that stupid lorry that almost hit you, but I got my 2A and looking to see what I can get for solo tours next time. Reason I would solo tour would be 1) I hate waking up early in the morning, 8am at petronas siao ah 8am I just finish toilet no. 2 2) I intend to stay in 2A(really waking up 5am to prepare to do TP for a chance of failure is damn shag), go on everyone here laugh and say I will take C2 next year, I WON’T, too mentally draining, besides I dun think I can afford it. So ya I dun think I can keep up with the C2 folks 3) I just like to chill and do things my own way without rushing for a schedule and getting potentially blamed for being too “my pace” Anyway thanks for the video and thanks for reading, I might not be a true blue class 2 rider but I enjoy your vids a lot, hope to see you all at booths during events.

Hi buddy. The currency in Malaysia is Ringgit. The standard room is about USD$32 and USD$40 a cup for the premium coffee.

@@tri333ple wow! Some camp sites cost more than $32 here. We call places like that a "bed and breakfast." They're usually about $120, but a nice one like that would be two or three times that. I could see Starbucks charging $40 for some crap they claim is special, but I've never had a real special coffee, so I have no idea what that equivalent might be. A decent gas station coffee is about $1.25. I'm glad you had a good trip. I hope you have lots more!

Riding and recording with a handheld device is illegal in singapore. But not when its mounted on the helmet and it does not obstruct the rider's point of view. Where are you from?

All if not most of your content review are on non-halal places to eat. Try going to somewhere where it caters to a bigger demographics of audience. My 2 cents.

Nice video, but maybe put in the location, GPS, of the food joint. Please give more tips on riding in Malaysia and Thailand. E.g. towing services, how to call for help, Food stall stop etc. 😊
