The process of making a Jaws Harp.
Production of Vargan, Jaws Harp, Drymba, Khomus, from stainless electrodes and a ruler. This is my interpretation of the manufacturing process and may differ from the work of other masters. I am not a professional in playing the harp - so do not judge strictly, I show how the harp plays.
Made in Ukraine, the city of Sumy, Dmitry Shevchenko

Master Shurap, I watched this video with my 5 year old son, I knew what was coming, but he didnt. We were both captivated by your craftsmanship, but the cherry on top was his innocent laughter when he heard that sound 😂 priceless ❤
Don't know how I got here, but you sir are a master craftsman. Your jigs alone are master pieces. 👍
I hope that you are doing well, that you and your loved ones are safe and healthy despite the craziness of the world. Love your videos, it's great to see how you've progressed as a blacksmith and as a craftsman and as a videographer. Please take care of yourself!
Amazing care and precision today. Loved the bending and straightening jigs!
I’ve always loved these. Great to see the craftsmanship and very cool process of building with the bend jigs.
I think this is the first time I've actually seen one played! So cool! All the little details that go into making them, never take one for granted again.
Excellent video, man. Looking forward to the next one.
Brilliant! love the reuse of common stuff to make it.
Very well made harp. Sound was so so melodious. I specially liked the jigs you used to make it 👍👍👍👍
That was great. I have been wanting a slightly longer one than I have. Now I can. Thanks.
Very cool. I was also impressed with the tools used to make it. Do you have videos of them?
OOOooooohhhh!!!!!! Awesome alternative and vid!!!! Thanks a lot for sharing!!!!
Very well made my friend. I was amazed at the super nifty tools and jigs you have .
Świetna robota. Masz talent i z pasją Tworzysz narzędzia :-)
Excellent. Votre procédé de fabrication est très ingénieux. Bravo.
Astounding! Thank you for the great insights! 🙏😃👍
Super ! Thanks for sharing your knowledge.
Thanks for the video. I always wondered how a twanger was made.
Astounding craftmanship. Respect !
Nice video. Brings back childhood memories of having several. Different sizes and bends make different tones. Didn’t know they were still made. We always called them juice harps. Probably a slang name for the jaw harp because if you have a lot of saliva, it would fling it everywhere. LoL .. Thanks for the memories.

Was running the flat stock through the killer rollers just to straighten it out or was there enough pressure put on it to also make it harder? Also do you have a place to sell them? I’d love one.

Super cool!
Muy buen trabajo Un saludo desde ARGENTINA
That's way cool ! Thanks
I watched this to see how I could tighten the Tongue on the harp my dad gave me. It's like 60 to 80 years old and the tongue moves up and down a little and hits the arms. I guess lightly tapping the crimp with a pin punch should work. The gap along the arms is about 1/24" ( 1mm) on each side of the tongue, how close should it be?

What does he sell each of these harps for? This is quite the process to build this little tooth buster! I actually got pretty good on one back in the day? Pretty cool, real cool!

most of these go for like 40-70 depending on the maker and the type. Some custom or exotic harps can go from 70 all the way to hundreds of dollars depending on the materials and craftsmanship

Des guimbardes.
Amazing
What is the diameter of the metal rod you use for the frame? What is the width and thickness of the tongue? Also, what is the diameter of the rings on the 2 pegs that you use on your jig to bend the metal? How far apart are they from each other? Thanks Dmitry! Love your craftsmanship in all your work!
Hi ther. Any special reason to use elektrode? Or just because its circle crossection?
New use for the metal ruler ~ 😎
How much would you sell one for? It's hard to find a good hand made jaw harp where I'm at.

How do you tune the harps? Amazing tools!
@kamer0nw1nn82

They could be *free tune,* which is the natural way.
@patrickbodine1300

One way is to add or remove tiny amounts of material to the reed. Depending on which key the harp is closest to, will determine whether you add or subtract. Solder is sometimes used in the loop of the reed to make it slower or lower in pitch. Using a small file carefully, you can remove metal from the loop. Small amounts make a big difference. Most players simply go with the natural sound of the harp without making any changes.
